CARDIFF UNIVERSITY
HK Public Affairs and Social Service Society 20
Since there are no nominations for the Re-election, our Society will unfortunately have to fold. A huge thank you to everyone for their support this past year!
Having a Society dedicated to discussing public affairs and serving members of our community is especially important when confronted with the world we are living in right now — and I apologise for not being able to provide such a community for all of us in the coming year. But perhaps, as I would like to think, our disbandment serves as a reminder of all the other ways I should and could be caring for our society: to be more proactive in taking action on an individual level, and more crucially, to live in a conscious manner aware of the issues plaguing our world.
Luckily with the Students' Union's "Save A Society Scheme", there is still a chance to revive our Society. If students within three years of time, that is — 2022/23, 2023/24 or 2024/25, are interested in continuing the Society, they would simply need three people to fill the core committee roles (President, Treasurer and Secretary). They would also have to put together a Constitution, a Development Plan and a Risk Assessment. The point of contact from then on would be the Students' Union via [email protected].
Thank you once again to all of our members, sub-committees, the Societies we have collaborated with, and everyone who has supported us along the way. Last but not least, my deepest gratitude goes to the founding committee of Cardiff HKPASS and this year's committee — thank you for making the past two years happen. It could not have been achieved if not for all the hard work you have contributed!
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any queries or if you would need any assistance in starting the Society back up. I could be contacted via [email protected].

On behalf of Cardiff University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Services Society (CUHKPASS), we are gladly inviting you to our first flagship event — Social Hackathon 2022!✨
🙌🏻In a social hackathon, participants will be divided into teams to come up with creative solutions for the problems that our partnered charity are currently facing.
🤩For this hackathon, we will be partnering with Make a Smile !
🌈Make a Smile is a UK charity formed by a Cardiff University student in 2016 that offers children the opportunity to meet and interact with their favourite characters. Volunteers visit children in schools and hospitals in various costumes to recreate magical moments from different shows, bringing their childhood imaginations to life.
❣️With hopes of spreading joy to more children, this event hopes to give back to the local community by connecting the young and growing charity to talented minds and practical solutions. Join us to help empower positive change!
📢🔈We are delighted to announce that there are three topics to be chosen from this year:
1️⃣ Widening participation — recruitment of less well-represented and young volunteers
2️⃣ Additional fun props to engage and excite children
3️⃣ Generic/alternative costumes that diversify wardrobe options
💭💫We would like to invite you to propose ideas on the topic of your choice. No prior experience of joining a social hackathon is needed. Your unique and personal insights into one of these three topics are what we are looking for!
👉🏻The event details are as follows:
Date: 02 April 2022 (Saturday)
Time: 11:00 - 18:30
Venue: (Online — Zoom)
Price: £6 (£4 will be donated to Make a Smile)

REDAMANCY | CUHKPASS Photo Competition 2022
Redamancy - A love returned in full; an act of loving the ones who love you. It is love-returned and can be hard to offer for some. It may not be the most common term, but you can learn to let go and love.
Surprised or disgusted; angry or thankful; joyful or sad; peaceful or stressed. Maybe even all of the above. When you capture people expressing those emotions, they help tell a powerful story. Love is a complex set of emotions and beliefs, an intense feeling of deep affection and a force of nature that can be found anywhere. Love is one of the strongest feelings that we'll ever know: to be deeply committed and connected to someone or something. Family, friends, lovers, pets — love is a bond that two hearts share.
When it comes to defining what love means through photos, each one of us can have a unique definition. We would like you to share your unique perspectives on 'Love' and share with our audience the unforgettable moments spent together with your loved ones.
Do you love spending time with people dear to you? Capture the memorable moments and share them with us!
The competition opens for entries at 1pm Sunday 6 February 2022. The link could be found in our bio!
The deadline for the entries is 1pm, Friday 18 February 2022.
The voting date is on (Sunday) 20 February 2022.
The results will be announced on (Tuesday) 22 February 2022.
Theme:
People Portrait
Prizes:
Based on the votes of our judges, we will shortlist the top 10 entries and post them on our Instagram.
Out of these, our judges will choose a prize winner.
We will also award a People's Choice prize based on audience voting through our Instagram stories.
Winning entries will be exhibited on our Instagram as well as awarded with their winning photos printed in A2 size in frame.*
*Prizes will only be awarded subject to receiving a high enough number of submissions and their quality standard being sufficient for display.

Hi freshers, it was nice to meet you all in the pre-departure talk. I hope you all found it useful.
We have summed up the pre-departure talk into these few slides and hope this could help you better prepare for your departure.
Being a part-time girlfriend or boyfriend (PTGF/ PTBF) has become an attractive way of earning quick money for some people. It paints itself with an innocent tone, but critics believe that it's just prostitution with a milder name. So, what is PTGF/ PTBF? And is it possible that a relationship can blossom after the transaction is over? There're so many questions surrounding this topic and we can't wait to chat with you all about them. Feel free to join us this Friday (27/8) at HKT 9-10 pm to have a discussion or simply listen in!
