Royalties can vary quite a bit depending on factors like book format, sales channels, and your contract. Generally, authors earn between 5% and 15% of the book's retail price. Sometimes, you might even get a lump sum for a test period. Some publishers offer a 50:50 split on income from sales, but always check how they define "income."

๐ The Potent Power of Menopause: A Culturally Diverse Perspective on Feminine Transformation ๐
Brace yourself for an open, honest, and humorous anthology that redefines the way we think about menopause. Written by 10 incredible women and 1 insightful man from diverse cultures, this book delves into the real-life stories, expert advice, and powerful transformations that are too often misunderstood and silenced.
For generations, menopause has been shrouded in myths, whispered about in shame, and dismissed by society. But not anymore.
Within these pages, you'll laugh, relate, and discover a new perspective on a natural phase of life that deserves to be celebrated, not feared.
Break the silence. Embrace the change. Join the conversation.
How many of you have attended a training event, been so impressed with the speaker, bought their book at the 'back of the room', then got home and started reading it,
Only to get to around page 14 and already want to throw the towel in?
Or you've seen those in your community rave about a particular book and person, seen the engagement and thought, "this person must be great! I'll buy their book."
Then have the wonderful book fairy deliver it to your door, or have those lovely folks who work in bookstores hand you said book,
To then open up the pages and be disappointed not only in the presentation of the word document it was so clearly created in,
But have sentences unfinished, punctuation missing and more typos than you can muster after a few bottles of wine? ๐ฅด
Yeah, me too!
Just 6 months ago I did a manuscript assessment of an already published book, and holy cannoli was it a painful read! What should have taken me just a week to read and review, took me over a month!
Yep, it was THAT bad!
This morning, I opened up another book by a billionaire business man, which is co-authored with another chap, and endorsed by someone whom I really respect, and attempted to give it another read.
The lack of typesetting has put me off previously, because it is just insulting to the reader that this big shot who brags about how much money he has couldn't be ar$Ed to produce a quality book.
By page 9, I am almost about to give up, but said to myself, "Don't give up Dawn, there must be gold in this book otherwise 'X' person wouldn't have recommended it."
By page 14, I was done.
Ends of sentences missed, more spelling mistakes than a dyslexic on an acid trip, and I'm still pi$$Ed off about the lack of typesetting.
Plus, the book is only designed for.. well, I'm not actually sure who it was written for to be honest!
And we all know how I like to be honest! ๐
And don't even get me started on the book cover! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Being an author coach, developmental editor and publisher can be as much of a curse as it is a pleasure, and it is part of the reason why I offer manuscript assessments.
Not only do you save $1000s on editing fees, but you also save $1000s on fees, , and fees.
You'll also prevent yourself from getting bad of your books and people giving up reading them by page 14!
If you have a which hasn't been through a , or had a strategic and of the contents,
And you want someone who is a complete , who is willing to be honest with you rather than blow smoke up your backside,
Then make sure you send me a DM with details on your book, including the stage of publication (or results of an existing published book) and I'll let you know the next steps.
In the meantime, I'm off to work on the final chapters of Slave Alone by Nathan Bryan
Ciao for now, and enjoy your day! โจ๏ธ
"The US may have shootings, but Britain has just as many stabbings"
A comment a colleague who'd worked on the Obama presidential campaign shared with me this weekend.
โฃ
With 20% of homicides in North America resulting from (74% as a result of fi****ms),
โฃ
And 46% of homicide in England and Wales, not including Scotland, this could be alarming, but given that England and Wales does not permit fi****ms,
โฃ
And the kitchen knife is a lot more accessible, especially during cases,
It is no wonder we have more stabbings than shootings.
โฃ
Killing someone with a knife requires more personal responsibility due to the proximity to the victim,
โฃ
Whereas shooting someone gives the killer making the kill more palatable and easier to deal with.
โฃ
The thing that is NOT being addressed by governments, and quite actively being ignored and dismissed, whilst placating the public with band aids and lip service,
โฃ
Is the underlying issues of all homicides.
โฃ
Killing someone, or oneself, isn't a new thing, and with increased , loss of personal autonomy and opportunities due a lack of , profits over people, ill health and the increase in alcohol and drug consumption (which serve to numb the pain and depression of life itself),
โฃ
It is no longer enough for us all to blame the weapon of choice.
โฃ
We have to start taking responsibility for our interactions, making our homes, neighbourhoods and places of work a nurturing, kind and joyful place to be.
โฃ
Coming back to Britain I was shocked at how quiet neighbourhoods are, and not just because I am used to communities eating, dancing and talking together in the streets after work,
โฃ
But because very few people are enjoying their own back gardens, which more often than not have been paved over to make way for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th car.
โฃ
I've noticed do not engage with their children much anymore, choosing to stick a device in front of said children so they can give more attention to the world in their own device than their own child.
โฃ
Employers in Britain, myself included, look overseas for team members because of the ever increasing nonchalant, expectant and easily offended snowflakes that just can't be ar$Ed to do the job or do it well enough.
โฃ
(Then they moan about the foreigners stealing all the jobs, benefits - and the women!)
โฃ
With a lack of pride in oneself, in one's home and , relying on the councils and schools to do the job of educating, homemaking and caregiving to our own families, things need to change,
โฃ
Otherwise we are going to see more disillusioned youth taking their frustrations, fears and anger out on those around them, such as the children murdered in Stockport yesterday.
โฃ
We can't say, "we're all connected", "it takes a community to raise children" when we don't live by those philosophies.
โฃ
It's time to become better humans, better neighbours, and parents, because the depths of is killing us.
Having an address where you live is dangerous...
Especially if you are an avid reader and book lover!
I've only been 'home' in my new apartment for 13 days and already books have started magically appearing ๐
Such as this one; a book I have been wanting to read for sometime now, especially after having read Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado Perez.
It is also not coincidence that this book has arrived when I getting clear on the next 2 clients I want to work with.
Writing a book like this not only takes an incredible amount of research and citations, but it also requires me to have my client's back when it comes to the legalities involved in making such claims.
To write a book such as this takes courage, confidence and a resilience that very few people have, it is why many don't write an exposรฉ,
Choosing to write something safe such as a business processes book or a 'How to Guide' to following the masses.
My 1:1 clients are prepared to put the records straight, are willing to go to the places others won't,
And present a different view of history - even if it is through fiction, such as Umberto Nardolicci is doing with his War of Fear Trilogy.

Friday Bridge is a glimpse behind the veil into Islam untainted by cultural influence from the lived experience of a woman who navigated life between East and West, White and Brown, hedonism and piety.
Navigating the cultural landscape of Britain, racial divides, Islamophobia, as well as prejudices within the various Islamic communities, I take you on an insightful journey of a faith unfolding and what it means to be a successful, educated businesswoman, who chooses the most hated religion in the world.
Running throughout the story is the hedonistic rave and drug culture of Britain in the 90s. From illegal raves to club nights, euphoric highs and immense lows as friends die, and fall by the wayside โ especially when the terror attacks of 9/11 and the 7/7 bombings take place.
From random police checks, fighting for social justice, religious freedom, peaceful integration and doing my best to understand what it means to be British; this book brings together the hidden meaning of โBritish valuesโ over the last thirty years of modern Britain.
It is the reality of a white English girl who fell in love with a โbloody foreignerโ.
This is a book which is guaranteed to make you stop and analyse everything you think you know about multicultural Britain, and reflect on your own interactions with neighbours, colleagues and strangers.
With brilliantly funny anecdotes, tear jerking moments and a heart worn on my sleeve, youโre guaranteed a great read.
When folks used typewriters there were very few authors.
โฃ
Now, it seems one of the most desirable things people have to have is the title of author.
โฃ
At a luncheon in London last week I was asked what I do for a living. Following my cheeky answer, I answered, "I'm a writer, and ".
โฃ
The answer I got, "Isn't everyone these days!" and whilst it made me laugh, it also made me roll my eyes and say, "Sadly, yes"
โฃ
Why did I answer sadly, especially when I coach authors and publish other people's books?
โฃ
Well, because isn't done these days with a deep love of , storytelling or creating a .
โฃ
It is done from a need to be heard, to be seen as 'someone', for ego purposes and because a business or coach said too.
โฃ
I turn down a LOT of people when it comes to working with me on a 1:1 basis, and those who choose to take part in my soon get to realise whether being an author is really for them.
โฃ
When I speak with potential clients, one of the first questions I ask is, "How many books do you read?" followed by, "What genre do you enjoy the most?" and then, "Why do you want to write this book?".
โฃ
These three questions tell me a LOT about the person and how good they will be in their chosen genre. It also tells me whether they are my kind of person or not.
โฃ
As I go through the process of selecting my next 2 1:1 clients, I am realising just how little many 'wanna be' authors actually read.
โฃ
They're not interested in the art or craft of .
โฃ
They do not have a love of literature.
โฃ
They own very few books and have no desire to promote their book once it is published.
โฃ
For me, that's akin to saying you want a child but have no interest in becoming a great parent or spending time with your child,
โฃ
And we're all seeing the disastrous results of uninterested, lazy and egotistical .
โฃ
Literature is powerful. It has the power to change and enhance someone's life, to heal both the writer and the reader, as well as communities and nations.
โฃ
So unless you are willing to honour the process of writing, to write for a meaningful purpose, and have a love and respect for , then I'm not the coach and for you.

How often do you get to a point in your life and take a moment to get present on where you are?
โฃ
Always rushing to the next mtg, to the next social, to the next level of success,
โฃ
And completely forgetting that where you are now is probably something you thought about becoming and being a few years ago.
โฃ
Unpacking our lives is a powerful exercise.
โฃ
Last week as I unpacked boxes of books and journals I'd kept whilst 'off gallivanting' around the world, I took a moment to read a few pages and the goals and checklists I'd written down.
โฃ
And, honestly, I had to give myself a proper talking too.
โฃ
Why?
โฃ
Because I got present to just how much I have achieved, experienced and LIVED!

Now I'm back in Britain there's a lot to be done, to become and to experience, rather than the having, like enjoying these swans on my daily dog walks.
โฃ
Life as a free spirit travelling the world with just 33kg taught me a lot about the baggage we carry emotionally when we fill our life with possessions,
โฃ
And how when we hang on to people, places and things, we become stagnant, depressed and trapped by our own (or others) perceptions of our success.
โฃ
Whether you work with me to write your story to either publish or as a journey of transformation and alchemy is your choice,
