Tŷ Hafan, Cardiff Videos

Videos by Tŷ Hafan in Cardiff. When a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own. Our ambition is to ensure that all families have the care and support they need, in life, death and beyond.

We don’t know about you, but we could listen to Heather sing allllllll day long! 🤩

This week we had the pleasure of joining one of our Baby Stay ‘N’ Play sessions at the hospice, where we had lots of fun with songs, instruments and sensory lights 🎶

Heather, Senior Play Practitioner shared a few words on the importance of Stay ‘N’ Play sessions...

“Parents with babies or toddlers can sometimes find it daunting to come to the hospice and see older children who may have progressed conditions or needs, that they could potentially be facing with their own children.

“When you have a baby it’s an expectation that you will get to attend all the fun classes that new parents do, like music, story and rhyme time. But, when your child has complex needs this means going into a group of typically developing children, who are hitting milestones that your child might never reach, and this can be a harsh comparison.

“By attending the hospice for Baby Stay ‘N’ Play, parents can participate in these creative and playful sessions, allowing their child to explore at their own pace. The day also offers opportunities to connect positively with the hospice, meet with professionals and check in and also importantly gain peer support of parents with similarly beautiful children.”

We already can’t wait for the next session and have been busy practicing our nursery rhymes 💚

Top Nuns set off from Tŷ Hafan
Our incredible Top Nuns – aka Lance and Sonia Davies from Pontypridd – have completed their amazing European banger rally! The Nuns travelled 1,410 miles from Sully to Benidorm, in aid of four charities, raising an amazing £1,000 for Tŷ Hafan 💚 The pair, who have been long-term supporters of Tŷ Hafan, set off from Tŷ Hafan and were waved off by members of staff and families along with Welsh TV actor and writer Steve Speirs - who jokingly predicted they were unlikely to get to Barry in their banger, which cost them just £300! 🚗 Four days later, however, the pair made it safely to Benidorm, despite a few challenges including an oil leak in the banger and coming close to running out of fuel a few times! They then enjoyed a few days enjoying the Spanish sunshine before scrapping the jet and returning home by air ✈️ Thank you so much Top Nuns for your support, we’re very grateful 😃 If you’d like to donate you can do so here > https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/makeawishtyhafan #Fundraising #FundraisingChallenge

Alana - Music Therapy
Alana had lots of fun during a Music Therapy session with Diane this week 😊🎶 Diane Wilkinson, our Music Therapist shared “Alana loves her sessions. They give her the chance to express herself and to communicate through the music we create together. “She can be stimulated and relaxed during the same session and knows that she is being heard, encouraged and supported to play. Music is the perfect way to explore emotions and feelings and Alana is very well able to show her likes and dislikes. “She is a very determined little one who always tries really hard to play all the instruments by herself. She has lots of fun but equally shows real focus and concentration especially when listening to the flute.” #MusicTherapy #ChildrensHospice

Bike, Boat, Boot - Anthony
Bike, Boat, Boot team member and Tŷ Hafan dad Anthony, bravely shares why he’s taking on their latest challenge, which will see the group cycle, kayak and hike the length of Wales in four days, in support of Tŷ Hafan. “My son, Rhys started coming to Tŷ Hafan in 2007, until he passed away in 2019. So, over 12 years really, we were part of the Tŷ Hafan family – still are part of the Tŷ Hafan family...but with Rhys," Anthony shares. “It’s not just care, it’s support around the hospice care, support around the family, support around siblings. It’s a heartbeat really there, for families who have got life-limited children, or who are still receiving care, or have suddenly passed away. “I’m doing this challenge in memory of my son Rhys, it’s a way of me paying back some of (not that they expect it), but a way of me paying back and showing gratitude to Tŷ Hafan, and it’s a way of me supporting other dads and getting some support off other dads. “It’s immeasurable how important this challenge is to me." 💚 Read more about the challenge > https://bit.ly/3wgbgRV Or donate via the Bike, Boat, Boot JustGiving page > https://bit.ly/44gwg7J #BikeBoatBoat #FundraisingChallenge #Fundraising

International Nurses Day - 'Thank you to the Nurses'.
It’s International Nurses Day, and to celebrate Heather, our Senior Play Practitioner - accompanied by the lovely Maisy on the piano - would like to share their version of ‘Thank you for the Music’ 🎵 Today is a day to celebrate the incredible dedication, compassion, and expertise of our nurses at Tŷ Hafan 💚 Our team of nursing professionals are key to providing the best possible support for children with life-shortening conditions and their families in Wales. Their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care makes a profound difference in the lives of children and families every single day. ‘The way we talk about Dying Matters'
How should we talk to children and young people about death and dying, and why does language matter❔ Each year Hospice UK‘s 'Dying Matters Awareness Week' encourages all communities to get talking in whatever way, shape, or form works for them. This year's theme ‘The way we talk about Dying Matters’, focuses on the language that we use, and the conversations we have, around death and dying. Anna Bowyer, our Senior Play Therapist, shares some helpful advice on the conversations we have with children and young people and the language we use when talking about death and dying. You can find lots more ‘Dying Matters Awareness Week’ resources here > https://www.hospiceuk.org/our-campaigns/dying-matters #DMAW24 #TheWayWeTalkAboutDyingMatters

Bike, Boat, Boot - Paul
Bike, Boat, Boot organiser and Tŷ Hafan dad Paul, bravely shares why he’s taking on his third extreme fundraising challenge, which will see the group cycle, kayak and hike the length of Wales in four days, in support of Tŷ Hafan 💚 “Last year we lost my son, and it was the most devastating experience of my life, and even now we struggle on a daily basis, and I don’t see that ending to be totally honest. “But the support we’ve had from Tŷ Hafan, when we lost Greg and throughout that subsequent time over the last year has been incredible. They’ve helped us in ways that I didn’t even know Tŷ Hafan could help us. “And if I’m totally honest I just do not know where we would be without that support, we’d be lost, and there are so many families, like ours, who don’t have that support,” shared Paul. We’ll be sharing more stories from the Bike, Boat, Boot team over the coming weeks. Please support them if you’re able to, whether that’s with a donation or by sharing their inspirational stories – it all makes a difference 😊 Read more about the challenge > https://bit.ly/3wgbgRV Bike, Boat, Boot JustGiving page > https://bit.ly/44gwg7J #BikeBoatBoat #FundraisingChallenge #Fundraising
