Tŷ Hafan

When a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own.

Our ambition is to ensure that all families have the care and support they need, in life, death and beyond.

24/07/2024

A big ‘THANK YOU’ to the wonderful Rhossili Sunflowers for choosing to support Tŷ Hafan this year, we’re so grateful for your support 🌻

But also, a very special thank you to everyone who nominated and tagged us, we were blown away by all your support 💚

Robert Morgan, Rhossili Sunflowers shared, "I stand in the sunflower fields in the mornings, and I feel like the luckiest man in the world, it's a privilege to be able to see so many families get so much enjoyment from the sunflowers.

“I'm especially proud of being able to support local charities. We supported Morgan’s Army last year and it was fitting to his legacy to support Tŷ Hafan this year as they looked after Morgan and his family.

"Tŷ Hafan is such a special place and we’re looking forward to families coming to make special memories in our sunflower fields this Summer while they provide support, care and make special memories with families across Wales."

Thank you, Robert. We can’t wait to visit ourselves very soon! 🌻 🌻 🌻

We know that it can be difficult (and expensive) to keep the children entertained for the whole of the summer holidays 🌞

So, we’re here to help with a fantastic selection of children’s toys, books, puzzles and board games across all our Tŷ Hafan shops - where you can pick up some great second-hand items that can be used over and over ♻️

Why not make it even more fun and give the little ones a small budget to see how thrifty they can be? 🤩

We’d absolutely love to hear what treasures you find, let us know in the comments...

Recently, a few of the ‘25km for 25 years’ team got together for a quick snap when their fabulous new t-shirts arrived 😄 And if you’ve not yet heard about this awesome challenge, then read on...

On September 8th, 2024, a group of 30 hospice staff will walk 25km to mark 25 years of Tŷ Hafan's Children’s Hospice. The challenge will take the teams from Roath Park in Cardiff through Bute Park, Cardiff Bay, Penarth and finishing at Tŷ Hafan 💚

The goal is to raise £10,000 that will be put towards covering the costs of new fully adapted vehicles, “This is such a significant cause for us as a hospice team as we feel that the importance of making memories in what can be the hardest of times is absolutely essential.

“Being able to put money towards the cost of a new fully adapted vehicle will give resident children the opportunity to be able to do these things, we have seen the impact that trips out can bring, be it a little walk on the beach or going to a farm - these small moments bring some fun to what these children are facing every day”, shared Kat Morris, Registered Nurse.

They’ve got lots and lots of fundraising activities planned over the next few months, including a pub quiz next week! They’ll also be inviting family and friends to join them during parts of the walk, so please do let us know if you’d like more information 📝

➡️ The team would be so grateful for all donations big or small to help them reach their goal. If you’d like to support, you can do so here > https://bit.ly/4f9AyTm

A big thank you to our long-term supporters Cabot Corporation for their support on this challenge!

Hold on! We can pay £1 to throw a custard pie at our teacher? Now you’ve got our attention! 🤔

This was exactly how a group of year 8 pupils from Bryntirion Comprehensive School, Bridgend raised £170 for Tŷ Hafan by inviting pupils to pie teachers and staff in exchange for a £1 donation 💚

All students aged 12 to 13 took part in the school's annual First Give competition, where each class in the year group chose a charity to give a presentation about.

One class chose Tŷ Hafan and gave a fantastic presentation about our charity in front of more than 150 fellow students, teachers, charity representatives and governors 👏

Great work everyone, we love the fundraising idea! 🥧 Thank you for choosing to support Tŷ Hafan 💚

Last Saturday, the Tŷ Hafan team (made up of dads, significant male family members and supporters) came head-to-head with the Principality Building Society team ⚽

In typical Welsh fashion, we experienced four seasons in one summer's day, but the resolve of both teams was amazing! In a wonderfully well-mannered match, in which Principality matched every goal scored with a generous contribution of £100 (up to 10 goals), meaning the fundraising target of £1000 was easily reached with this skilled lot! 😲

The final score was 9 - 6 to the Principality team (great work!) and the man of the match was the captain of the Tŷ Hafan team, Sean Meredith, who was presented a trophy by ex-Celtic and Wales International Joe Ledley 👏

Dan Notley, Family Support Worker at Tŷ Hafan, shared “The result was secondary; win, lose or draw, the opportunity for Tŷ Hafan dads and their support networks to enjoy an activity together away from the daily pressures and complexities of being a parent to a child with a life-limiting complex medical condition.

“Some of the dads in the team have experienced the unthinkable; the loss of their child - and to be able to play and be amongst others who are on various stages of their child's journey is a support in itself - no words are needed, but the understanding is there."

A big 'thank you' to Principality Building Society for all their support, we all had a fantastic day 😃

We’re incredibly pleased and privileged to have been chosen alongside 2wish as official charity partners of The Royal Mint 💚

Over the next two years, The Royal Mint will organise a range of fundraising events and initiatives and enhance positive links between employees and local communities.

📸 Fundraising kicked off at a local football festival on the pitches of Y Pant Comprehensive School, Pontyclun, on Saturday 29 June, where attendees raised £6,500 in an action-packed day of football matches, face painting and inflatable obstacle courses.

The event attracted more than 840 young footballers from 82 community football clubs across south Wales, making it The Royal Mint’s biggest football festival to date.

Amanda Brady, Chief People Officer at The Royal Mint, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Tŷ Hafan and 2Wish; two charities who do incredible work supporting families across Wales and the UK.

“Working together we can make a meaningful impact in our communities, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed to the first of many exciting fundraising efforts.”

Rachel Ritter, Head of Fundraising at Tŷ Hafan, said: “Too many families in Wales are struggling through the fear, exhaustion and uncertainty that comes with caring for a child whose life will be short.

“We are thrilled with our new charity partnership with Royal Mint. When a child’s life is going to be a short life, Tŷ Hafan will walk alongside the family every step of the way. At the moment, we are only able to support one in ten families who need our help. This partnership will make a huge difference to our ability to raise awareness of what we do and, raise vital funds to help us to reach every family who needs us.”

Thank you, The Royal Mint, we're very much looking forward to working together over the next two years and making a difference in the lives of the children and families in Wales who need our support 💚

Well...not only did the Bike, Boat, Boot team complete their challenge, but they totally and utterly smashed it! 🚵 🛶 🥾

Tŷ Hafan fathers Paul Fears, Dan Forbes, Ryan Tomlinson, Chris Thomas, James Meacham, Lee Morgan and Anthony Boggis, with Laurence Morgan, brother of Lee, and Jason Foster, Tŷ Hafan’s Director of Finance – have just travelled the length of Wales under their own steam in just four days and all in a bid to raise £50,000 for Tŷ Hafan 💚

Not only have they cycled, kayaked and hiked more than 200 miles with a total elevation of 28,000 feet well within the timeframe they set themselves, but they have totally smashed their target with their fundraising total currently standing at £57,910!!! 🤩

A big 'THANK YOU' to everyone who has so generously donated. The team sponsors Convey Law, TLC Wales Fostering, Bunting-Redditch and The Events Room for their fantastic support. JT Expeditions for their expertise and for keeping the team safe. Morrisons for supplying goodies for the trip and Sully Sports and Social Club for hosting the team on their arrival home 😄

📣 It’s the fourth and final day for the team! Who set off early this morning for the final push, with another 85k+ left to cycle and hike before they can finally breathe a sigh of relief that they’ve completed their mammoth challenge 🚴 🚣‍♀️ 🥾

This morning, we caught up with Bike, Boat, Boot organiser Paul, who shared, “We are all on our knees, exhausted with aching bodies.

“The only thing keeping us going is our families and children. Every time we look at the fundraising total it gives us a much-needed boost.

“Now it’s boots on let’s start the journey back to Tŷ Hafan.”

You've got this team and we're looking forward to welcoming you back 🙌

The fundraising total is currently at just over £51,000, which is phenomenal! Let’s get this incredible team to £55,000 today, please support if you can ➡️ https://bit.ly/44gwg7J

Day Two of Bike, Boat, Boot - Completed ✔️

Today has been a gruelling day for the team, with a 13k hike and a 72k cycle over mountains, climbing 1566 metres, which is higher than Ben Nevis 🚵

Bike, Boat, Boot organiser, Paul Fears shared, "To say today was brutal is an understatement. Chatting to the other dads and we think this is the hardest physical exercise we have ever done.

"But to be totally frank it's not as hard as some of the awful things that we've had to go through, and what our kids go through.

"So when you're going through a really tough time and you're going through paths or bogs where you can hardly peddle, you just think about the kids and the families and that's what's hard...these physical challenges aren't, this is just highlighting what Tŷ Hafan is all about and that's why we're doing it."

Their fundraising total is at a phenomenal £46,000, and they're now hoping to raise £55,000 💚

A great big ‘Thank you’ to Stephen Hanson, who this week took his fundraising to new heights by wing walking upside down (yes upside down!!!), raising an incredible £2,000 and counting for Tŷ Hafan 🛩️

Stephen shared “I took part in this event in memory of my late mum who was a paediatric nurse caring for seriously ill children and raised funds to support their families in her retirement”.

When asked how the challenge went, Stephen shared "With speeds of 140mph I didn't have time to be scared but the wind at that speed was fierce.

"It was difficult to stretch my arms and legs out! However, at the top of the loop, the plane slowed to 60 mph so I dangled my feet toward the ground while upside down as if to reach the ground".
