Tip Tuesday: What you need to know about waterproof boots

Waterproof is a legal description.

Waterproof boots will have a special membrane and design features that mean there are few places for water to get in. ( though if you put your foot in a river deeper than the boot there’s no helping you )

If you want your every day styles to be reasonably water resistant then choose one with no stitching around the join between upper and sole unit.

Glued or moulded constructions are actually more water resistant as well as cheaper 😉

If they have a zip then they'll only be waterproof up to the start of the zip
(which means they'll be fine for wandering around fields of wet grass and accidently putting your foot in a puddle)

Also spray with a protector before you wear them out.
(you can use old fashioned dubbin to seal up stitching a bit)

No boot will keep your feet dry if you stand in a puddle or walk in heavy rain for a long time unless it's a wellie.

If you want them to last longer let them dry fully before you wear them again.

We will usually only claim Wellies are waterproof!

Kid's are back in school next week and I 've got the new year feeling

September always feels like back to work, back to focus, back to my desk, even though I've actually been working most week days covering staff holidays, getting new product online and talking to everyone on social media.

It's Probably because with an Eddie to send out to school in mornings and his coming home in afternoons I have fixed deadlines and it amazes me how this frees up my energy.
I don't have to impose arbitrary deadlines to my day.
Work starts after he leaves and if it isn't finished when he comes home and starts moaning about the empty fridge or filling my house with other teenagers it ain't getting done till tomorrow
Which now I work from home is a great feeling. Love a nice firm boundary

So what am I going to be using my extra energy for

Planning on chunking up on my projects So one week one thing

So next week it'll all be about Launching Autumn in our shops and on the website.
(I'm so excited about all the gorgeous boots in all the amazing colours that are coming in)
then I'm Re launching our newsletter I want to pack it full of fun info about all the lovely Boots that are coming in and anything amusing that's happened in the week

These Lotus Chelsea boots are made of super soft leather in a fantastic range of colours.

A low wedge heel is always popular with our customers. They also have an inside zip for easy on and off.

As well as a chelsea boot there is a mid calf boot and shoe versions.

If you love a floral print and a touch of lace then you'll love the Classic and very feminine Romantic style.

Here’s a simple guide to help you save time, stress and money when buying school shoes for your kids

Shops that offer a children's fitting service and shoes in special fittings can be incredibly busy at this time of year and you will be paying a premium for the trained staff and the specially fitting shoes

It can be a nightmare dragging your children to the shops and keeping them calm while you are all waiting.

But you can check the fitting of any child's shoe for yourself.

1) set yourself up for success Put both shoes on and do the shoes up fully
.(If they’ll be wearing socks try them on with socks)

2) to check the length
Get your Child to stand up (so their feet are in the normal position).

Gently Press on toe of each shoe till you feel your child’s big toe

•There should be no more than 2 cm as this can be a trip hazard

3) to check the width
Gently stroke your fingers down the sides of the shoes. There should be a little give before you feel your child’s little toe.
• If your child is pushing out the sides the shoe isn’t wide enough
• If there’s much more than ½ cm then the shoe’s too wide.

A few notes :

Laces can be adjusted to give room at the toe and tightened at the instep to reduce movement.

The fit of shoes vary from make to make and style to style so if one style doesn't fit look for a similar from a different shop that may prove suitable.

I grab a pen and a bit of paper and write a letter to myself from my grown up me. (only 58 not a grown up yet)
In the letter I talk about how I spend my perfect days
What I do and what I love about my life.
The vision I have for my Kids and my business
I'll include what I'm wearing and eating
even how my home is decorated.
I practice dreaming big and getting very clear on that vision.
Then I look at the small steps I can take moment to move closer to that picture.

Yes it's day dreaming!
Our subconscious doesn't
actually Know the difference.

by building a vision of what we want it becomes easier to get our bodies and minds engaged on relevant tasks

and helps us recognise opportunities when the pop up.

I’ve no expectations of the weather and every golden day is a gift
On a less philosophical note
In autumn
People don’t think it’s strange I’m wearing a cardy ( I’m always cold or about to be cold)
And I can bomb around in boots which I find really comfortable

We all know Kids need growing room in their shoes Here’s How to make sure there isn’t too much !

Buying school shoes can be a nightmare of stress and fuss as well as costing a small fortune for something kids can literally grow out of over night
You can save a lot of time money and stress by selecting the styles available in the superstores and checking them yourself

😎Make it easy on yourself by taking them shopping in the socks they’ll be wearing for school and ignore please for slip- ons As kids shoes need to have a lace or strap to keep them on.

😉You can get away with a larger size in a boot as they’re held in place at the ankle so will rub less.

Put both shoes on do them up and get your kid to walk in them

If they seem to be dropping off try this:

Do them up again while your child is sat with their heel on the floor and their toe lifted up.
(This puts the foot into the right position in the shoe) and the lace or strap will stop their feet sliding around

If the shoe is still moving on the heel it is too big
