I’m expecting at least an extra 5kg in bodyweight from everyone come Wednesday
We may be a gym, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a dark chocolate and roasted pistachio cookie once in a while.
One of our good members (and soon to be PT’s) Keirun has started his side hustle, . Genuinely some of the best baked goods in the ‘Diff, available to order fresh by just a DM.
Support the local community and give him a follow, and get your hands on some prime scran.
Numbers!
For all those dafties out there who can never seem to get the J-hooks level, this one goes out to you.
No longer feel ashamed when you have to readjust constantly, making you take more time before you start lifting.
I should have written these on the racks a long time ago. My bad.
Start reading numbers today!
Last Saturday/Sunday morning, myself and gym members Tom Nicholls and Keirun Quinn attempted and completed MANDOWN 3
What an experience. 9 hours of mud, press-ups and hill sprints. Loved every minute.
So proud we got through it together, wasn’t a doubt in my mind we couldn’t do it. Check out the Green Mile’s Instagram page to see what sort of stuff they got us doing.
I will keep my hat alongside my MANDOWN 2 hat. Congrats to the other 19 people that passed, you all deserved it.
What does TAB stand for?
No more excuses for not deadlifting now!
Chalk is a game changer when it comes to lifting. When you need to grind out those disgusting deadlifts, but your grip won’t let you, chalk helps out.
It dries out your hand to give better grip, therefore allowing you to pull those heavy circles off the floor.
Remember, it’s chalk, not confetti, keep it controlled 😂
Bought off close friend P. Escobar, only the finest “chalk”.
Dave’s Gym will be observing the two minute silence this Remembrance Sunday at 11:00am.
The gym will be open slightly before, and the music will be switched off at 11:00am. Please observe it with us.
Thank you.
Oh, to be a gym rocker in 2009. A throwback to simpler times.
A blast from the past for those few fossils that remember this party. For any that’s still alive today, can you find yourself in the group photo?
I think we might need to do something like this again.
It’s a well known fact that stroking a dog before you lift adds 20% to your 1RM.
Meet Toby, who has recently had his hair done so he’s at maximum fluffiness. He enjoys chasing tennis balls and attacking his humans in bed.
We’ll have to teach him how to Squat, Bench and Deadlift.
We’re so nearly done with the dojo!
Yesterday we put up a rail along the walls because it looks nice and hides some screws. You’re welcome.
Can you spot what we’ve put up on the wall behind Dave?
Reminder that the dojo can be rented out for £6 an hour if you want to use it for your own training, so long as there isn’t a class on!
Every Saturday from 4-6pm, after gym hours, Barbell club is still going strong. Come join get stuck in.
Welcome to anyone from complete beginners to world class Olympic athletes.
Although I’m not sure what I’d be able to teach an Olympic athlete.
Anyways, come along this Saturday for a good workout and a good chat, and for those who want a little more, you can take part in the circuit of the month!
Looking forward to seeing you there 💪
The linear progression has been going great. New weight on the bar every single session. But oh no! At the bottom of the squat it feels like you’re supporting the weight of the skies.
Constant linear progression is fantastic and feels great, but sometimes your body needs a rest. Take a deload!
It’s sad, no one likes going back on progress, but it’s important to do so every now and then.
Maintaining linear progression forever is difficult, and you need periods of time to just drop the weight back ~10%, and then slowly build back up to even heavier than what you were lifting before.
Slow and steady wins the race. This is the way.
No longer be afraid of being thrown metres into the air by someone you swear was Rambo!
Now, just before you go through the wall, you shall be cradled gently with half an inch of foam matting. Ooh, lovely.
Start practicing your human caber toss today!
In all seriousness, the dojo is *this* close to being done, and it looks proper tidy now. Come and check it out with our many martial arts classes.
How many bruises have you taken in this room?
Train for glory!
A (slightly late) dogs of Daves gym!
This is Merlin, a half American bulldog, half British bulldog mix. Believe it or not, this absolute beast is only 8 months old and 35 kilos.
Try not to let Merlin knock you over, and if he does, you’re clearly not heavy enough, and you need to train more.
They dogs end up looking like their owners, but it could be the other way round.
What’s the aim of Barbell club?
It’s not a straight ahead “how to lift” class, it’s a club; A smaller group of people who want to spend 2 hours of dedicated training with likeminded individuals.
Everyone is there to support each other, or to have a laugh and learn some new things.
It’s aim is to build a small community, and a social event where people feel exited to come in, and have working out to be the medium in which they socialise.
They also get access to half decent coaching passed down from Dave to myself.
We welcome drop ins, no need to book. So what’s stopping you?
Behold the Chonk Chart!
Put up about a year ago now, the chart is a great way for those lucky enough to squeeze in to record their PR’s, and immortalise themselves for as long as water isn’t thrown over it, or someone brushes past with their backpack.
Who on this board do you reckon you could take in a lifting competition? Drop a comment!
A PR board for the Barbell Club regulars will be going up soon too!
Dogs of Dave’s gym Wednesdays!
This is Lucifer! His humans are Ellie and Matt. Lucifer is originally from Bosnia-Herzogovenia and likes chasing squirrels, chicken treats and peeing on the floor in excitement.
Seems like fitting activities for the demon lord of hell. A dog straight from the depths of the immaterium.
Got a few dogs lined up for the next few Wednesdays! Hope Lucifer has improved your day 💪
If you’ve been in recently, this new whiteboard may have caught your eye.
The barbell club has started circuit of the month! If you want to prove yourself to your peers, come along to a Saturday session and give it a crack.
Also included are some super basic workouts for those who don’t have a single clue what they’re doing when they rock up.
Be there or be square!
No longer will you be judo-thrown into bare chipboard walls! Progress is being made on finalising the dojo, and Dave, Adam and myself have been securing matting to the walls.
Now instead of bare chipboard, it’s now a cushy 1cm of hard foam!
Next week should see the finalisation of it all, with one more layer of foam put above the current one.
Personally, I think the splinters from the wood build character, but not everyone feels the same way.
Come join in one of our many classes running out of here! Just ask what’s on and we can get you hitting pads and tapping out strangers.
It’s a Thursday, which means I’m starting the Dogs of Dave’s Gym! It’s a well known fact that dogs improve morale, and mindset = power, so here’s your weekly fix.
Here we have staff member Little Callum with Albi, half lab, half retriever.
We’re a friend of dogs here, so if you’re passing by and want to cheer up our receptionists with smooths, feel free! You might just end up as our Thursday post.
On a scale of 1-10, how good is this boy?
