Ten Footsteps programme - Live Well with Pain 21/08/2024

Living with pain doesn't have to be hopeless!

Do you live with a long-term persistent pain condition?
Does it affect your ability to sleep?
Does the pain generally give you low mood and affect your emotional wellbeing?
Does it restrict your daily activities and stop you doing the things you want to do?
Does it affect your ability to find and keep paid employment?
Are you concerned about the amount of pain medication you are taking and their side-effects?
Does your pain often flare up when you are feeling stressed and anxious?

Living with persistent (chronic) pain can severely impact our physical and emotional wellbeing and our ability to perform daily activities.

If you are registered with any of the 5 GP surgeries Millbrook Surgery Queen Camel Medical Centre Milborne Port Surgery Bruton Surgery or Millbrook Surgery we can offer you support to enable you to understand and find ways of living better with your pain. We follow a programme called Live Well with Pain The Ten Footsteps - this is a non-medical, self-management approach to living with pain.

We have monthly Live Well with Pain cafes in Milborne Port, Queen Camel, Wincanton and Castle Cary - these are social, welcoming and friendly groups where you can meet with others living with pain and know that you are not alone!

We also offer 12-week Live Well with Pain groups where we go into depth into the Ten Footsteps - people who have gone through these groups say how it has made a huge difference and the peer support and shared experience with others is so beneficial. We will be starting a new group in Wincanton on 23 September - get in touch if you would like to hear more.

Also, we are starting a new online Ten Footsteps group which will take place on Microsoft Teams, every third Wednesday of the month from 7-8pm, starting Weds 18 September.

To hear more about any of the above, please get in touch with the health coaches at each surgery or call Sue Crisfield on 07749 418850 or email [email protected]

Please don't suffer in silence - help is available - you are not alone!

Pizza, panic attacks and push-ups - are children and young people in Somerset getting enough support for their health and wellbeing?

Somerset Youth Forum is inviting all young people in Somerset aged 10-18 years (or up to 25 years with SEND) to a special session to discuss young people and health in Somerset.

This event will be taking place on Thursday 9th May, 5.30-7.00pm on Teams.
We will cover:
Should health support be more than a website and an app?
How can children and young people be helped to access support for eating disorders and weight management?
How easy is it for children and young people to maintain good health and wellbeing?

We’ll be looking at these questions and a whole lot more.
If you know a young person who’d like to sign up for this event, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/YouthForumMay24
The things that young people tell us will be shared with the Children, Young People and Families Board and will aid in the shaping of policies that will directly benefit young people in Somerset.
If you’d like to get in contact with us or if you’d like to find out more about the event or Youth Forum send us an email at [email protected].
