For the first time in years (post baby) I am back to making my own candles for the shop. I only use plant materials and after years of trial and error since the best-selling candles of my Bath shop days, I have improved things and now add a small amount of beeswax into each molten wax blend which I make to my own recipe. Then, when cooled to the correct temprature, in goes my own scent blend of essential oils- again, years of trial and error and perfumery courses in London over the years has led to a select range of my own blend creations, plus a few single puls, such as lavender, which can’t really be beaten in its purity. So, hopefully there’s something for everyone. I will launch these on 6th May at the fete in Mells , prior to a shop launch. Gorgeous labels designed with help by with illustration by my talented sister .
I’ve gone for a darker palette as we traverse from Winter into Spring this year and we’ve had our latest delivery of scarves and berets from Paris in these new gorgeous tones.
10th March is Mothers’ Day this year, don’t forget! It’s several weeks earlier than usual due to the early Easter this year. Here is my new selection of cards for this year, all supporting female British illustrators and their small UK businesses who only use sustainable methods and materials. 💕🌟👍🏻
I’m making pretty, dried Valentine bouquets all week with pink tones, including a dozen roses. This one is £25 and will be going online today. The colours will last for about 2 years.
This year’s selection of newly designed Valentine cards in the shop. These designs all directly support UK female illustrators and moat are priced around £3.50. If you can’t get down to the shop in time, just call me and I can post out to you with my special ‘cards only’ postal fee for less than £2, which allows for up to 6 single cards.
Open tomorrow for the majority of the day (usually closed Wednesdays). 10:30-3
I’ve been quickly making up more beeswax candles today so that we have plenty ready to go this week! Thought I’d wrap this Christmas batch in this starry paper 😍
Cashmere wristwarmers just in, made in Scotland using recycled cashmere yarns.
Lucy’s recommended ideas for last minute gift requirements: For those looking for a perfumed, luxurious, eco-friendly soap gift, under £50, this is the best out there in my opinion. Not only are the ingredients and packaging all fully traced and sustainable, and the scents heavenly and highly sophisticated, it is made in the UK and you will be supporting two independent female-run businesses; Sevin’s and mine. So, if you haven’t got time time to pop into Fortnum’s for a bottle, you can swing by my shop instead 😉. Also, now the bottles are refillable (if you return them to my shop for refills) and the soaps come in either 500ml or the new 300ml bottles. Choose from either Porcelain White (the one all women love) or Marble Black (the one men love and lots of women too) scents for these duo sets. Usually with scent you can just round down the scent description to a few words of recognisable things. I can’t do that with these- it’s almost impossible. They are too complex, considered and different, and so indescribably good and alluring. So there, those are the words in fact.
For the first time in 10 years I have only made ONE wreath this year, and that’s this one for my own door. Sorry to all those who I’ve had to say ‘no’ to, and thanks for still asking me, but life running after a toddler has been the order of things for another year, which is delightful in a different way. I’ll keep you posted if I do wreaths next year…
See you tonight, 7th Dec 5-8pm for our high street late event. Shop, eat, sing, dance…. It will all be happening here later 🌟🌟🌟
I’m thrilled to have Charlotte’s golden swallows installed up in the shop today, now for sale through us. She makes them to order, hand carving them and applying several layers of gold leaf and using gold thread- they are absolutely exquisite. A lovely local collaboration. Get in touch for more details about them and

Love this painting ‘Alive and Kicking’ currently next door which I think brings some order and balance to maximalism through colour and composition. As a continual collector of beautiful objects, this certainly appeals to me!
I really enjoyed seeing this wonderful exhibition of ceramics by . The fine quality of her work was still as evident in the pink bowl, one of her last, and which she made when she was nearly 90! Proof that we can age well with a focused mind and passion for a vocation. She remains an inspiration to ceramic artists everywhere. Her formative years in 1930s Vienna were tainted by fear and constraint as a Jewish woman, and she fled to London in her 30s to set up home and studio there where she remained for the rest of her days, a gift to this country. 💕
August Sale starts now…. Reductions in-store of up to 50% off most stock including toys, scarves, soaps, craft items and paper gift/ storage boxes. This is the best sale we’ve ever had, clearing the shelves for a new look for Article this Autumn.
Come to Castle Cary and Bruton tomorrow, Saturday 10th June for the Fair at Roundhill Grange just outside Bruton. 5 mins in car from Bruton, 10 mins from Castle Cary. Had a marvellous day there today in the epitome of good taste in all directions in the sunny Somerset Summertime amid the best quality curation of vintage and brocante stalls and tents, beautiful flowers everywhere, talks and events and great lunches by . Fab coffee from . I managed to explore every stall, chat to interesting artisans and make some purchases despite also having to chase after my excited toddler Henrietta who also wanted to chat to everyone. Lovely to see so many people I know there from Bath, Sussex and all over the place.
Garden Day continues on Bank Holiday Monday (tomorrow) plus you can book a free bus ride from Castle Cary/ Bruton up to the estate. Some decent shops open in town, including mine haha, so why not make a day of it?

One of my recent new products in the shop are the range of eco-friendly dental products from .
As is often the case with how I stock my shop, this toothbrush was a product I discovered and started using at home and liked it and the whole brand ethos so much that I brought them onboard as suppliers to Article. We sell a range of soft and medium and baby toothbrushes, plus toothpaste, plus their patented sonicare electric toothbrush replaceable heads, made from bamboo and castor oil bristles like all their range. AND everything is a fiver. How amazing is that?
Our selection of these gorgeously sensual vases by Jude Jelfs in our gallery would make an original Valentine gift….

Our Story
Artisan chandler & florist Lucy Simon set up her first shop in 2007. She launched ‘article’ in Bath in 2013, and since 2019, is located in a large restored bank building on the high street of the bustling market town of Castle Cary in Somerset. Local suppliers and a focus on quality and environment, together with Lucy’s natural styling, have ensured that she is the go-to florist in Somerset for the ‘English Country’ look. The flowers inspire a range of other products in the shop, including scented goods, skincare, candles, stationery, ceramics, textiles and other hand made homewares. Lucy also co-runs the contemporary art gallery next door, with husband David. Come for an inspiring visit to wander amongst art and flowers.
