Our specials aren’t just mains!
This dish was whipped up for Sophie for her birthday and Adam has come up with a breakfast special available from tomorrow off the back of it.
French toast with a berry compote and natural yogurt.
Unfortunately we do not open up to non residents for breakfast, but if you would like to enjoy a lovely breakfast, like this one, then head over to our website; www.thegeorge.im to book in for a night (or more) and relax in an amazingly comfy bed followed by a yummy breakfast to get your day going.
Happy 30th birthday to one of our wonderful Housekeepers, Sophie! We hope you have a lovely evening celebrating with your family, and thank you for spending your birthday working. We appreciate you every day but especially today. Best wishes for the year ahead. Love your family at The George.
And they call it puppy love 🐶 ❤️
Here at The George, we are all animal lovers! Natalie has dogs of her own, Morne has been tasked the job of recruiting us a pub dog and Kim is more than happy to come out from the bar and play with visiting pooches!
Not only are we dog friendly, but we appreciate that your fur babies are just as much a part of your family as the humans!
We have a stock of ‘Doggy beer’ en route to us. This will be on sale by the bottle. And in the mean time, we have Posh Pooch wine for dogs!
Served in a very fancy bowl, with a doggy cookie or Jammy dodger! Modeled by our regular, Blue.
We currently have more puppy friendly plans in the pipeline
We will update you when our doggy beer comes in and the pub dog is pending.
We look forward to welcoming all our two and four legged friends soon, The George family x
In my desperate attempts to stretch out ‘summer’ for as long as I can. I’m not sure it’s ever started to be honest.
We don’t have a guest ale this week, so allow me to introduce our limited time Liqueur .
Fragola. Fragola is made by infusing tiny wild strawberries in alcohol and strawberry distillate for at least four months. Approximately 50 berries float on the liqueur inside the bottle.
You can mix Fragola with anything you like. The suggestion is ginger ale.
I don’t like anything ginger so I mixed it with lemonade. It’s very nice.
However for that little something a bit extra special, we have a strawberry champagne cocktail.
A mini bottle of Prosecco would cost you £7.95 and a shot of Fragola is £3.95 BUT we manage to bring you this for £10. So that’s a saving of £1.90!
But once it’s gone, it’s gone!
As the new academic year looms, we lose another member of the team to university.
This week we lose our little Lizzie.
Lizzie and her twin sister, Millie, joined our team in May. When they started they were only 17 and joined us as ‘runners’. When they turned 18 we threw them in at the deep end behind the bar.
Lizzie is a prime candidate for university, she is an amazingly bright girl, although can be a bit shy at first! She is kind, and polite and helpful.
Lizzie is a hard worker. She made a wonderful friend in Mike and he like the rest of us, will miss her terribly. She also embraces Lola’s eagerness to help and includes her.
Lizzie, we will miss you so much! Who will sell our sundaes now?! Have the best time at university, enjoy every minute and don’t let anything hold you back! Remember you are always welcome to come back in the holidays!
Stay safe, learn lots, have fun.
Lots of love from The George family xx
Welcome our new little puppies and kitties at the The George let's give them some names and the most liked will be chosen ones!
Now, no meal is complete without pudding!!
As is said in my family, even if you’re full, dessert has its own bit of tummy, in which there is always room.
So once you’ve chosen which amazing main you’d like (hard choice I know), why don’t you treat yourself?
Mat has come up with a lovely smooth, Oreo Cheesecake! 😋😋
Another Saturday Super Special!
Our chefs are on fire!!! This dish also comes courtesy of Adam.
Here we have - Moules Frites
Mussels in a creamy white wine sauce with seasoned fries - £15.95
This not only looks but smells amazing too!!!
These super specials are coming in thick and fast, good job really because they’re also flying out thick and fast aswell! We sold out of Butter Chicken curry yesterday, but fear not, Mat was in nice and early this morning to prep some more!
Today is Adam’s turn. Adam is our breakfast chef, predominantly, but this includes lunch service and the occasional evening service too. Adam joined the team 4-6 weeks ago.
His masterpiece is Chicken and Chorizo risotto with a charred pepper purée. A bowl of this delicious filling and wholesome meal will cost you just £16.95.
We look forward to seeing you before it’s all sold out.
Team George
Did you come and eat/drink with us, charge your ipad and then forget to take it with you? Don't worry we have it here, safe, in our safe. All you need to do is ask at the bar and then be able to unlock it and we will reunite you :)
Introducing this weeks second super special!
Butter chicken curry with aromatic rice, garlic flat bread and toasted almonds.
😋😋
This dish is courtesy of head chef Mat and has been flying out the kitchen tonight!
Allow me to introduce our dynamic duo when it comes to Bar staff. Lizzie and Mike.
Lizzie and Mike are testament that age does not matter when it comes to making a great team.
Last week we had a busy evening shift with just the three of us, and despite only having less than 6 months experience between them, these guys smashed it! The night went without a hitch and ran like a dream.
However, exactly a week later, Mike and Lizzie have put their efforts together again, and have managed to sell as many of our delicious ice cream sundaes in one night as we did in the whole of last week!
Guys, I hope you’re as proud of yourselves as I am of you and I am so grateful to have you by my side on shift.
Keep an eye on this page to ‘meet the team’.
We look forward to welcoming you soon, Team George
😋😋😋
Despite Adrian leaving us on Saturday, we still have a team of 5 fantastic chefs. Each of them bringing their own unique talents ‘to the table’.
Recently our more regular customers have voiced their opinion that they’d like to see more variety on our specials board. Which we agree with, after all they are supposed to be special! So we heard you, we listened and we acted!
Natalie has set our team of chefs a weekly challenge. Each chef is asked to submit one dish to her to be added to the board.
This week, so far, we have a butter chicken curry and this. This, is a chicken roulade, on a bed of mash with a vegetable medley accompanied by a jus.
This looks amazing.
But how I think it looks isn’t what’s important, it’s what you guys think. So the lovely customer who bought this exact plate said the following ‘I’d rate it a 9.5 out of ten, all the flavours compliment each other perfectly, I’d definitely buy it again’
This dish is courtesy of Chetman and Kumar. Well done guys!
Come down and get yours, before it’s all gone!
In the spirit of healthy competition, please keep an eye on our social media pages for some interesting competitions coming soon.
GOOD NEWS!!
Today’s works have finished and The George is accessible from the front and back doors.
Thank you for your patience again.
We look forward to welcoming you
Team George
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
We would like to advise all our valued customers that building works have now begun and the front entrance of The George is currently out of service due to Health and Safety reasons while the masonry is removed, which hopefully should be finished today (the masonry removal not the entire works)
We are still open as usual and invite you all to come and take shelter from the rain but just please use the back door for the time being.
We apologise for the inconvenience this causes but it really is a necessity.
We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Best wishes, Team George
This week’s guest ale.
Back by triumphant return (well done if you get the connection)
Okells 1907
1907 gets its name after the year the TT started and it’s only fitting she comes back out for MGP.
There may not have been much luck with racing and the weather, but thankfully the weather doesn’t stop play when it comes to beer!
In terms of taste and where it sits, it’s light in colour like MPA, and has aromas and tastes of Mango and Pineapple to give a tropical feel. (Not quite a Pina Colada on the beach but if you close your eyes it’s close enough). It’s a mix of smooth malt and fruit on the palate, with a hint of sweetness leading to a dry hoppy after palate.
1907 has an ABV of 4.5% so significantly stronger than bitter and MPA and still slightly stronger than Park Life but still retailing in-line with other okells on pump products at £4.30 a pint.
So to ensure you make the most of the end of the summer, come and treat yourself to a pint while stocks last.
Today is a super sad day for us here at The George.
Our head chef/kitchen manager, Adrian, leaves us for pastures new. :(
We will all miss him so much, and nobody more so than his loving wife, our General Manager, Natalie. You never get one without the other but don't worry Adrian, we promise to look after Natalie, stand by her and support her in keeping The George ticking along as it has done with you by her side!
Adrian comes with a fantastic reputation as a chef, his food is amazing, if I do say so myself and losing him is a massive blow.
Fear not loyal customers, stepping up to the post, is Adrian's right hand man, Mat. Mat is also South African so our authentic South African dishes will remain and will be made as they should be, as Adrian would. Mat comes with many years experience and has worked alongside Adrian for long enough to pick up all his words of wisdom.
Adrian, you have been amazing to work for. You welcome each and every staff member like they are family and treat us like family continuously. We will miss you so very much and hope that you do not become a stranger! Thank you for everything you have done for all of us and more importantly for The George and all our customers.
Lots of love, YOUR team xx
Tonight we wave farewell to one of our lovely members of Bar Staff, Ingrid, as she packs her bags and goes back to University. Ingrid has only been with us for a short 6 weeks, and even then you may have missed her if you don't visit regularly as she spent three of those on holiday.
Ingrid is best known for her amazing artwork in the Guinness pints she pulls. Before joining the team, Ingrid had never worked a bar before, but her artwork outweighs the rest of us put together. I suppose it's fitting considering she's doing a creative course at university.
Despite only being here briefly Ingrid has worked two key events for us at The George; Prize presentation night for Southern 100 and the Euro football final. She proved just how valuable she is on those nights and was described as 'a machine'. I think an asset is definitely how I would describe Ingrid.
Ingrid is a hard worker, passionate, a quick learner and always has a cheery disposition and was clearly born to work in hospitality. Ingrid, it has been a joy to have you working with us, we are all gutted to lose such a wonderful member of our team and we cannot wait to welcome you back when you return.
Learn lots, stay safe and have fun.
Lots of love your George Family xx
This (and last) week's guest ale of the week!
Unleash the Tiny Rebel in you with a pint (or half) of Tiny Rebel's Park Life.
According to Tiny Rebel - This ale is a combination of Pine and Citrus notes with a light floral touch, with a crystal clear golden colour
For those of us behind the bar who will give you a more down to earth explanation. This ale sits between Okell's Bitter and Okell's MPA. It is closer to the MPA with a light finish and a fruity smell, but not as much of a fruity taste as the MPA.
*On sale while stocks last, and its a quick seller.
Retailing at £5.10 per pint with an alcohol percentage of 4.2%
*Disclaimer, please refrain from unleashing the Tiny Rebel in you, we encourage all our customers to drink responsibly and know your limits. :)
We look forward to seeing you soon, Team George
