Learner drivers warned about the risks of driving test cancellation finders The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is encouraging learner drivers to only use the official GOV.UK website to book and manage their driving test.

With winter just around the corner, it is a good time to prepare your car, ready for the dark cold days and nights ahead.
A few things that you can do to ensure the best possible and simple transition from summer to winter.

CHECK YOUR FUEL !
Ensure you have a full tank of fuel before embarking on your journey, You do not want to be stranded in the cold, just because you did not check your fuel gauge.
OIL !
Ensure you have sufficient oil to keep your car run smoothly.
TYRES !
You need good tyres to ensure optimal traction and grip. Check the pressure too, so they are inflated correctly to ensure the best performance.
WIPERS !
Windscreens get very dirty in winter. Wipers should be able to clear all the debris that appears on your windscreen. Check for splits and test them before a journey. Ideally they should be changed every 12 months.
ANTI FREEZE !
Check coolant and anti freeze levels to ensure the engine has what it needs.
ELECTRICS !
Take a look at the lights and indicators, to see if any bulbs have gone and need replacing. Also the battery, they should be replaced every few years, so get them checked at a garage.

LEAVING ANIMALS IN A HOT CAR !!!

Whilst it is not illegal to leave a dog in a hot car, the owner has a duty of care, and if they leave their dog in a hot car, they can be liable to prosecution for neglect.
People think it is okay to leave them if a window is open or parked in the shade, but the car can become like an oven and the temperature will more than double the temperature outside.

IF YOU SEE A DOG INSIDE A CAR, WHAT SHOULD YOU DO !!!

If the dog appears to be in distress or danger, call the emergency services. If you think their condition is critical and the authorities have not arrived yet, you may want to break into the car and free the dog.

First of all, when you ring the authorities, tell them of your intention to break into the car, take pictures of the dog and the car, before you break a window, get names and numbers of any witnesses. You may need this information later, as you could possibly be charged with criminal damage.

DRINK AND DRUG DRIVING !!!!!

There are legal limits for both alcohol and drugs that you should not exceed when in control of a vehicle.
The limit for alcohol is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath.
For drugs, it is an offence to drive with any 1 of 17 controlled drugs, including prescription medicine.
There is not a way to tell if you are over the limit, even if you feel you are competent, because you need to take into consideration, your weight, age, food intake and your metabolism.
Also you need to be aware that you may still be over the limit, the next day, following an evening out drinking, as alcohol affects everybody differently and does not leave your system straight away.
With drugs, if you are on regular medication, check with your GP or pharmacist, to check if it can affect your ability to drive.
So not just illegal drugs are dangerous.
There are many risks you take whilst driving and under the influence, which include

IMPAIRED VISION
DROWSINESS.....AND MANY MORE !!!

The best way to avoid any accidents is ZERO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS

YOU HAVE A LOT TO LOSE IF YOU ARE STOPPED AND TESTED

TYRE PRESSURE.
One thing you should always remember to check is your tyre pressure. You should check the tyre pressure on a regular basis, to ensure optimum performance and fuel economy.

If tyre pressures are too low, you can use more fuel than necessary, steering will be affected, and there is an increased risk of wearing the tyres out sooner, and suffering a blow out.

Know what your tyre pressure should be, and check regularly, perhaps when you go to fill the car with fuel, take a few extra minutes to check.

If your tyres seem to be regularly going down, you may have a slow puncture, get them checked at a reputable garage, who can detect any problems, and advise you accordingly.

Make checking your tyre pressure a regular part of your cars maintenance, and avoid any future problems.
