Hi Fam, It's been a long time since I've posted anything here, my apologies. Life happened - that's my sorry excuse. So I just want to update y'all on what's been happening. This is a long read so please bear with me. Thanks in advance for taking the time to read through to the end. Much appreciated.
I'm not sure if most of you know that I now work part-time at Rochester Cathedral. Managing the bookshop has kinda taken a back seat. And you might not know that we are going to close as we have to vacate the premises to make space for the Healthy Living Centre and Innovation Hub.
Flashback to November 2019 when we hosted an amazing event celebrating local Kent Authors. We had the celebrated author, Michele Guinness, Rev Helen Burn, Rochester Area Dean and Bishop James former Bishop of Rochester, 8 Kentish authors were also in attendance and a number of Medway churches. Ruth (a member of my church) made the most delicious and scrumptious spread of food. I was on a high and feeling so blessed by God. The turnout was Amazing!!! God is good!!! Up on to that time I was working two extra jobs to keep the Bookshop afloat and that event just made it all the worthwhile that there was still a Christian Bookshop in Medway. Then.... the pandemic hit and Wow!! was I ill-prepared for it and subsequent lockdowns.
Working three jobs took a toll on me and I crashed, literally. I was on my way to work and blacked out while driving. We thank God because, Jesus took the wheel and got me safely off the major road and into a car park where I hit a barrier. I didn't come to for another 5 minutes after the crash. I was a bit disoriented but no-one was hurt, even though the car was a write-off.
Fast-forward to 2022, unfortunately, the Bookshop has all but lost most of its customers. Then I was informed that The Bookshop would have to look for a new premises. Where? How? With what? Not another set back!! I give up. I just sat on the floor of the Bookshop that day and cried. Few people visit the Bookshop these days and when people do come by it's to price check against online shops, tell me the Bibles and gifts are too expensive, complain about the state of the world or to take photos of my stock. One day I was tickled pink because someone bought a greeting card. Wayhay!!! But seriously I get it, things are really hard for most people, my story is not that unique. We need to prioritise our spending and I would rather spend £20 on my groceries than on a Bible. Now that I'm closing down, pending relocation, I'm always hopeful :-) I've had more people come in and have had a few sales, so I thank God.
The last two years have been something else. Two years of upheaval, two years of dramatic change and two years of great loss.
You know how I mentioned I was feeling blessed because everything seemed great, yes that's how I felt back then. But this last two years had shown me that God is ALWAYS good and that I am always blessed regardless of my circumstance. My car crash... God is good, Depression... God is good, loss of earnings... God is good, family upheaval...redundancy, God is good. In good and bad times - God is still good. And I'm still blessed. So what does the future hold for me? I don't know and that's alright because as I have figured out about the last two years; is that God has always got my back, I just have to wait on Him, be prayerful and trust that He will come through. Hey my history with God is great!! Has HE always come through, oh Yes HE has!!. I do believe that most times but the truth be told, sometimes I struggle because the devil is really busy. So on those days I turn to scripture. The Bible promises that gives me hope and keeps me from fussing too much about things - The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1 And I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from, My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1
So I might not know what God has in store for me, I do know one thing and that is whatever HE has ordained for my life it will be the best thing for my life. That’s all I need to believe. So everyday what I try to do is - wait on God, count my blessings, be grateful and pray.
So until I see y'all in the new premises; wherever it is, I hope and pray that I can continue to be of service to you ALL. Thanks for sticking around till the end - I just want to thank you ALL for supporting me, encouraging me and most importantly praying for me. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU
Dear Fam, after praying on this for the last 18 months and nothing yet, I have decided to shut the bookshop. I will start liquidating the book stock by the end of the month, while the gift stock will be sold in gift packs. All glory belongs to GOD as HE has seen me through my highs and lows.
Many thanks for your support and custom. Forever grateful for the privilege of serving you all for the last 5 years. Should you have any ideas, suggestions and prayers, do reach out to me on 07873778713.
Hi ALL, the bookshop is (hopefully) temporarily closed. Thank You to everyone one who has supported and patronised the shop. Still waiting on God and by His grace better days ahead. For now we will remain closed until such a time when I'm spirit-led to either shut this bookshop permanently or relocate to another premises. Again thank you so so much to all my loyal customers. You can still contact me by text, WhatsApp on - 07873 778713 OR send an email to - [email protected]
