He's finally finished.... πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸŽ¨πŸ’œ "PRINCE" - acrylic on canvas. Piece 3 of my new series "Iconic" that I'm slowly working on. I started him ages ago 😳 and after beginning to struggle with painting his mouth, I got a mental block (and possibly sulked a bit in frustration 🀣) and just put it away for a while. When I picked him back up, thankfully, it all started to go pretty smoothly again. 5 tips for if you find yourself struggling with stress and anxiety below ⬇️ (Learnt from my art therapy studies and creative wellness research 🎨) 1 - GET YOURSELF OUTSIDE. (Some gentle exercise or just a stroll in the outdoors is a great way to increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, triggering our good friends to be released.. 'endorphins and serotonin - the happy hormones'). 2 - AVOID DRUGS AND ALCOHOL. (It's usual for these to cause additional problems, physically and mentally, if using them regularly and excessively). 3 - GET COLOURING. (By focusing on a singular, mindful activity like colouring allows your mind to get into a meditative state. This relaxes the body and alllows your negative inner dialogue to become quieter because you're focused on something else). 4 - CHECK YOU'RE GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP. (A lack of sleep can make our minds foggy, slow, irrational, and a lot more emotional than usual. It can change the way we make decisions, solve problems, and control our behaviours. Too little sleep also triggers the body to release more cortisol, which is the 'stress hormone' that is usually released when we find ourselves in danger or in a 'fight or flight' situation). 5 - SCULPTING (OK, this sounds like hard work, but it doesn't have to be. I would highly recommend investing in some sculpting clay for your home to get hands-on after a stressful day. But if you're stuck at work or college, etc, try and get your hands on some blutac (or something similar) and just mould a simple flower or face. Cortisol has been proven to reduce in the body when squeezing and moulding clay. It creates a perfect sensory distraction to relieve your mind of what's troubling it at that time and helps your body to relax).
