This quality 1920s solid Oak chest of drawers was a pleasure to work on.

It has been continuously used for 100 years, with the beautifully figured and well chosen timbers being badly in need of a good clean.

After cleaning the dry timber was fed with oils and wax to produce gorgeous lustre to the finished piece.

This lovely Edwardian Mahogany dressing table has had over 100 years of use.

It was dirty and had been damaged through continual use, especially to the top. The colour had faded and was looking very tired and sad!

After an extensive clean with spirit and a re-polish with French Polish, it has come back to life!

After upholstering this lovely armchair there was enough of this beautiful floral fabric left, so the customer asked us to cover this small side chair as well.

This lovely Victorian Carved Walnut ‘spoon-back' Chair is one of a pair, the other you can just see behind it, and have come in for restoration and re-upholstery .

The new green velvet has been carefully put on the back with the deep buttoning technique where buttons, with a covering of the same fabric as on the chair, are sewn in deeply and folds are created in the fabric to give a pleasing diamond effect.

The seat is nearly finished on this one before tackling the other one of the pair!

It hardly seems possible that it is more than 20 years since we were commissioned by The Meadows Shopping Centre to make this Oak Bench, specifically designed for the elderly and infirm.

Made in Reclaimed Oak for the Millennium, it is upstairs at customer services for elderly people to use whilst waiting for transport.

This Edwardian “Medallion” back Chair has come in for the back to be re-caned. The central wooden lozenge is held by the cane and the pattern is continued around the centre piece.

This is a highly skilled and complicated work to do but gives a great effect when complete.

This beautifully comfortable armchair came in for re-upholstery. The deep buttoned back (quite a complicated procedure) was the last thing to be done and it is ready now for the customer to pick up.

This is a lovely Victorian Mahogany Childs Chair. It has come in to be Re-caned. You can see the small holes around the seat frame and the back through which the cane is woven in a particular way so as to form the hexagonal pattern common on these chairs.

It is quite expensive to do and if you count the individual holes and multiply by £1, it will give you the price to complete simple patterns (more complicated ones are more expensive!)

These lovely Beech chairs, with carved backs are being Re-Rushed.

The rush material is wound round the seat frame in a certain order and rush lengths are used as packing between the layers to give a more comfortable padded seat.

06/06/2021

This wonderful Edwardian parlour settee is being reupholstered. The backs are done with an elegant light grey fabric, and now a layer of polyester will be put over the re-upholstered seat to give extra comfort before the top fabric is applied and a suitable braid is applied to finish off the edges.
