What a fantastic event Laravel Live UK 2024 was! Enovate has attended the event every year since 2019 and it’s definitely top of our list of conferences to attend each year.

Srija, our placement student shares with us what it's like to be a placement student here at Enovate

Day in the life of a placement student
A typical day in my life starts with a cup of coffee. Before starting my day I give myself some time to enjoy my cup of coffee and just settle into work slowly by turning my laptop on and get organised for the day ahead. I start work at 9am, which usually begins with our daily stand-up where we we discuss what we did the day before and planning tasks ahead for the day which helps us work in sync as a team.

Then the work day begins, I’m mostly working on projects involving front-end development which is quite fun - as you get to see your work come to life. My other responsibilities also involve sorting out support tickets and communicating with clients. I work closely with Michael as he always reviews my work thoroughly before making any final deployments and I get useful feedback on my work, which helps me grow as a developer. The best part about this job is that I’m not being limited to just front-end development work, Michael tries to involve me in various aspects of web-development which are quite challenging for a starter but helps me expand my knowledge even more.

Some days when I have less work assigned, I get the opportunity to just watch training videos and build new skills up which is quite nice. Being really honest, if I didn't like what this company does I wouldn't be nearly as effective at my job. Being enthusiastic about what they do keeps me motivated on a daily basis, and seeing my work have a tangible impact is extremely rewarding.

Reflecting Back on 9 Years at Enovate

I started working at Enovate in October 2012; 18 years of age, fresh out of my Website Design & Development apprenticeship, and hungry for a glimpse into the working world.

I was the third full time member of staff at the company when I joined, so straight away I was put into the deep end and got some fantastic hands-on experience with our existing clients, as well as working on designs and building websites for our new clients.

When I first joined Enovate our stack involved MODx, Inuit CSS, and Compass, however over the 9 years that followed, and as a I focused my attention more towards the Front-end Development aspect of projects, our stack moved to Craft CMS, Laravel, Tailwind, Webpack, GraphQL, and Next.js.

Enovate now stands as a strong team of 8, with staff from all backgrounds and experiences working together to meet the needs of their clients. I am proud to have been working at Enovate for so long, and I am proud to have been involved with laying the foundations and being a part of the team that made Enovate what it is today.
9 years is an incredibly long time for someone of my age to work for a company, especially in this industry. My many years of service is testament to the amazing team Enovate have here, and I have enjoyed working with them all.

It was very hard saying goodbye to a company that taught me so much, but I wish the company and the whole team every success in the future.
