WJ Wright Funeral Services
Funeral Directors
W J Wright are pleased to announce their partnership with Care First to offer our families direct access to 24 hour personal counselling services.
All First Care counsellors are highly qualified and skilled in working with the bereaved, so that they can help our families to understand their experience of grief, develop self-care and coping strategies to help deal with the many challenges that a loss presents.
They are also on hand to assist with a wider range of matters from employment issues, probate and Wills and financial and tax queries.
W J Wrights office will be closed from the 24th December until the 4th January . During this period if immediate assistance is required please telephone 01451 810700.
At W J Wright Funeral Directors, we pride ourselves in delivering the highest level of bereavement care to our families and the surrounding communities. An opportunity has become available for those looking for a challenging and rewarding role as an Funeral Service Operative.
Rate per call out: Competitive
The role of a Funeral Service Operative is to be on standby during the evening/ night on a rota basis, for requests to collect the decease and bring them into our care. Also to assist our Funeral Directors in the day, up to 20 hours per week, this can be flexible. In this role the Funeral Service Operative must be smart and be able to communicate with the public and staff in an approachable, confident and helpful manner. It is important that the individual has a caring and empathetic personality. For this role, you must have a driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle to travel to the office. Upon arrival you will be expected to drive the private ambulance. Due to the nature of the work you must be able to respond to a call out immediately and it is therefore important that you live within the locality of Bourton on the Water or the surrounding areas within a 15 mile radius. The individual must be able to work in a team as requests are carried out in pairs. There may also be the opportunity to become a casual bearer on funerals during the weekday (this would involve driving funeral vehicles and bearing the coffin into the Crematorium or Church).
This is a physically demanding role. Previous experience is not essential as full training will be given.
Person specification:
- Smart and professional
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Empathetic, caring and calm
- Able to use initiative
- Driver’s Licence and own vehicle

Today we mark the loss of more than 100,000 people who have died within 28 days of an infection with COVID-19; a terrible milestone to have reached. Our thoughts are with their families and friends.
We also hold in our thoughts the families and friends of every single one of the 600,000 other people who have died, for any reason, in the United Kingdom in 2020 – the highest UK death toll since the 1918 Flu pandemic, more than a century ago.
Funeral service employees devote their lives to the care of those that die and their grieving families. Right now, funeral homes across the UK are under extreme pressure - beyond anything they have previously experienced and the sheer scale of the loss they are dealing with is profoundly distressing. They are caring for mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, brothers, sisters, friends – and, sometimes, entire families.
This pandemic is far from over. Deaths remain more than 30 percent above the seasonal norm and, tragically, more will die before their time before this is over.
This terrible milestone that we mark today should bring the challenge before every single one of us, to limit the possibility of infecting ourselves and others, into sharp relief.
And that includes funerals. We only have one chance to say goodbye and funeral directors are committed to ensuring families can continue to be there, safely, to bid farewell to someone they love.
You can help ensure this remains possible too by only attending a funeral if you have been invited by the immediate family. Please don’t even gather outside the service to line the road or surround the graveside. Your funeral director will tell you what the limits are. Please respect and adhere to their advice.
The vast majority of funerals are now being live-streamed so, if you’re not within the small group invited to be present at the service, please take part online instead. We understand that you are also grieving, and our thoughts are with you too - but there are strict limits in place for public health reasons and they must be followed.
Thank you to all of the funeral service employees for their determination to ensure bereaved people can continue to say a meaningful and personal goodbye during the pandemic.
Our spotlight church of the week is St Edward’s Church, Stow-on-the-Wold.
The south porch is gabled, and the shallow north porch from the 17th century masks a 13th-century moulding on the north door, which is framed by yew trees.
We are most grateful for this lovely feedback received. Well done team! 🌟 🌟 Compassion, professionalism and smooth logistics. 👏👏
St Andrew’s Church located in Naunton, Gloucestershire dates from the 13th century but was rebuilt in the 15th century, when a tower was added, and restored in 1878.
Natasha Flynn is one of our Senior Funeral Directors at W J Wright. Natasha knew from the age of 16 that she wanted to work in the funeral industry. There were a limited number of funeral director positions for women at that time so she volunteered her services and worked a number of years for free just to learn the trade.
Natasha enjoys working for an Independent Funeral Director "because of the traditional family values it has". She says it allows her to, "devote time to families and serve their exact needs".
If you would like to speak with Natasha or have any questions about arranging a funeral or the loss of a loved one, please call 01451 810 700.
We are committed to serving both day and night, 24hrs every day of the year. Our phone line is always available for families to speak directly with one of our Funeral Directors whenever you need.
Our spotlight church of the week is St Lawrence, Bourton on the Water. Located only a few meters from our office at Rectory House, we are truly grateful to have such wonderful neighbours.
St Lawrence’s describes themself as a “welcoming and inclusive church, for people of all ages and backgrounds” who are “Learning to live God’s love in all we do”.
“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.”
A member of our staff is participating in this fundraiser to raise monies for essential research into prostate cancer. We would be grateful to receive any support for such a deserving cause.
W J Wright Funeral Directors's Mo Space Movember, the month formerly known as November, is a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men's health.
