New Canapé!
We are celebrating one of our most famous local cheeses - The Stinking Bishop! Stinking by name, but not necessarily by nature… Stinking Bishop is known the world over for its strong smell and distinctive rind, but contrary to common belief, the cheese itself actually has a delicious, delicate flavour. The name “Stinking Bishop” comes from the pear used to make the Perry that the cheese is washed in during the maturing process.
Stinking Bishop cheese is made by Charles Martell & Son in Dymock, Gloucestershire, using the milk of a specific breed of Gloucester cow. Sadly though, the particular breed is close to extinction. In recent years the rising popularity of Stinking Bishop has seen the number of cows rise, but there is still work to be done.
makes a Stinking Bishop cremeux which is then dipped in a pear gel to mimic the pink/brown ring of the original cheese. Served on a crisp tart base with pear gel, Alyssum flowers & spiral chives (from the garden of course!)
The truffle season has come to an end so it’s time for a new canapé… goodbye for now lovely ‘Mac & Cheese’

Happy National Apprenticeship Week! ✨
Let’s take a moment to appreciate the incredible value of on-the-job training. At Lumiere, we truly believe in the power of apprenticeships to enhance knowledge and foster essential soft skills that are often difficult to acquire in a traditional classroom setting.
To those of you who haven’t met her already, we want to introduce you to Alice, our talented front-of-house apprentice! 🌟 Currently studying for her Level 3 in Hospitality Supervision, Alice is gaining hands-on experience in various aspects of our business, from restaurant service, back of house, supplier visits to even helping out in our beautiful garden. 🌿
Under the guidance of Alice will complete the study elements of her training and as part of her course Alice is also working on an exciting Sustainability in Hospitality business plan, we are thrilled to be implementing as many of her suggestions as possible, as we strive to make our restaurant more sustainable and eco-friendly! 🌍
Join us in celebrating Alice’s dedication, passion, and exemplary work as we applaud the limitless potential of apprenticeships! Don’t forget to follow her journey and keep an eye out for her incredible ideas that will shape the future of our business.

🌟🌍 The big day is finally here! World Cup final day for our incredible Lionesses! 🦁⚽️✨
I can't even begin to describe how monumental this moment is for women's football. Today, we come together to celebrate not only the exceptional talent and dedication of our Lionesses but also the progress we have made in breaking down barriers and challenging outdated norms.
As I sit here reflecting on my own journey, I remember being told as a little girl that I couldn't play football because it was considered a "boys' game." But let me tell you, those words only fueled my determination and ignited a fire within me to prove them wrong. Today, I stand with all the little girls who have been told the same, reminding them that there are no limits to what we can achieve.
To our Lionesses, you are an absolute inspiration. Your passion, skill, and unwavering commitment to the sport have paved the way for a new generation of female footballers. You have taught us that dreams are valid and that persistence pays off.
So, as you step onto the pitch today, know that the entire nation stands behind you. We believe in you, we support you, and we know you are more than capable of bringing home that World Cup trophy. Go out there, play with your hearts, and show the world the strength and beauty of women's football.
To anyone who doubted that football was meant for all, let today's final be a testament that this sport belongs to everyone. Together, we are breaking barriers, smashing stereotypes, and creating a future where opportunities are limitless.
Obviously this was the picture I was supposed to include in the last post!
Welcome to the team & 🤣
I realise that I spend most of the time posting pictures from the garden so I thought I would switch it up today and show you all some pictures of the fabulous lunch we hosted with our friends last week.
It is always our pleasure to host and always lovely to see .
It also gives me chance to introduce you to - Jon’s new chef & who will be joining and I in the restaurant for the summer!
Serious post for a second, especially for any dog owners… We just wanted to take a minute to give a big shoutout and say thank you to our amazing dog walker .co.uk and his wife .the.acupuncturist. Our gorgeous Weimaraner, Reuben, recently had a pretty scary case of bloat. Thanks to their quick thinking and genuine concern they rushed him to the vet and ultimately saved his life.
We can't express how grateful we are for their help and support. Reuben had emergency surgery on Sunday, and he's currently resting and recovering at home. We feel so lucky to have such amazing humans in our lives who genuinely care so much for both Motte & Reuben.
We wanted to share this story to remind everyone of the importance of recognising the symptoms of bloat in large breed dogs and seeking veterinary attention right away.
Bloat, also known as gastric dilation-volvulus (GDV), is a serious condition that can be fatal if left untreated. The most common symptoms to look out for:
- Unproductive vomiting or retching
- Distended abdomen
- Restlessness or pacing
- Difficulty standing up or lying down
- Abdominal pain or sensitivity
- Rapid heartbeat or breathing
- Pale or white gums
- Collapse or weakness
- Excessive drooling or salivating
If you suspect your dog is experiencing bloat, please seek veterinary attention immediately. It truly could save their life; Leigh & Kelly managed to get Reuben to the vets in under 15 minutes & it really has made such a difference!
Thank you both again, from the bottom of our hearts, for your support, general awesomeness & for saving his life! We love you both xx
Sad to say goodbye to the beautiful Cornwall scenery as our road trip comes to an end.
But we have one last stop: Can't wait to see how they're ripening red grapes in polytunnels and to try their new vermouth range. This week has been full of amazing meals and breathtaking views. Now we're excited to get home next week and get our hands dirty in the kitchen garden. Lots of planting, woodchipping, and weeding to do!
Stay tuned for more garden updates. We’re back in the office on the 5th June & then reopen on the 8th🌿🌱🍅
We celebrated our 10th Anniversary with a meal at the newly awarded Michelin Green Star .farm. It was an unforgettable culinary experience, from the beautiful and flavorful menu created by to the lovely farm tour with restaurant manager Kat, everything was perfect.
We were especially impressed by the new Hen of the Wood course and the Alexanders dessert. It was also really heartening to see that our kitchen garden is on a similar track with that of Crocadon Farm, albeit on a much smaller scale.
Thank you to the entire team for such an incredible evening.🌱🌿🌻
Exploring The Eden Project was a truly awe-inspiring experience!
From the breathtaking rainforest exhibit, community allotment to the vibrant Mediterranean garden, every corner of this ecological wonderland filled us with excitement.
We're so grateful for the opportunity to witness the incredible beauty and diversity of nature up close, the various edibles & use of different farming practices was really inspiring.
If you haven't visited The Eden Project yet, we highly recommend it!
Happy Anniversary
Here’s to the next 10 years 🥂🥂 # # #
We have arrived at our charming bolt hole in Fowey, with breathtaking views of the estuary - The Glass House by is really quirky & has the most gorgeous views over Fowey Harbour.
We were eager to uncover all this town has to offer & it’s absolutely lovely…
We indulged in a delectable Italian lunch at . The fish soup & cod & pea risotto were my choices and absolutely delicious. The super friendly staff & great wine list topped it off perfectly. We even brought a couple of take away cocktails to try at home later. Highly recommend!
We strolled through the enchanting, narrow streets after lunch and stumbled upon for a delightful gin tasting experience. Picked up a special bottle for for our bar at home too!
Feeling refreshed and pampered after our stay at Boringdon Hall Hotel. The staff were all amazing, taking care of our every need. The spa was a much-needed retreat and our room was simply beautiful.
The real highlight was our dinner at , where we were spoiled with stunningly beautiful food and great wine pairings. Highly recommend this spot as an excellent stop on your way to Cornwall.
Next stop Fowey…
