Hey darlings,

I’m heading back to Zanzibar in just over a week to spend the school holidays with my daughter as well as attend to some of my charity projects. As it’s payday I just wanted to share with you my latest project.

If the project is of any interest to you and you’d like to be involved the donation link is https://gofund.me/e7b4d2c1

With my friend Shaabani (manager of the orphanage I work with) we hope to provide 10 disabled people with a much needed wheelchair and a food package for them and their families this August.
This is the pilot scheme for what Shaabani hopes will be a larger, island wide programme by the end of the year.

Unfortunately wheelchairs aren’t widely available in Zanzibar and most are in disrepair. Disabled adults and children are therefore completely housebound. Their families also struggle financially trying to juggle working and caring so the risk of extreme poverty is far higher for those affected.

By buying second-hand wheel chairs and fixing them up we aim to provide mobility for as many disabled adults and children in Zanzibar as possible as well as providing food parcels for them and their families to ensure health and some stability. We would then hope to provide 6 months of food parcels to affected families to help them get back on their feet.

We hope to complete this initial stage of the programme in mid-August and hopefully delivering wheelchairs and food parcels will be what I’m doing on my birthday, 13th August this year if we can raise the money. If you know any businesses or individuals who’d be interested in donating to this fund I’d really appreciate it.

Thank you so much ❤️

Eid Mubarak to all of my wonderful clients, friends and family that celebrate. ✨🌙
Although I didn’t take part in Ramadan it has felt particularly special this year arriving back from Zanzibar at the start of the holy month and starting a new beginning at the salon with the lovely Katie who most of you have met by now. We both have been astounded by how busy the salon has been with our most prosperous March to date and the joy our clients have brought has made every working day so incredibly rewarding.

Thank you everybody for choosing to come to us; for your patience whilst I spend time in Zanzibar and for the love and energy you bring to your appointments. ❤️🫶🏻❤️

THE BROW STAIN

Our new favourite treatment

It’s not a tint and it’s not henna, it’s a totally brand new treatment which enhances your natural brows without colouring the skin.
It gives you natural, full and fluffy brows that are individually colour matched to your natural hair. Goodbye eyebrow pencil!

Can’t move… The dogs on me. ❤️
Thank you to everybody who has booked in their December appointments today. Our future December selves thank you profusely! ❤️

I’m baaaaack!

Hello you gorgeous lot! A huge thank you for everybody’s support and encouragement whilst I was in Africa and thank you as always to Laura for holding the fort AND posting on here when I couldn’t access the business account.

I had a really successful, incredibly busy trip and managed to really forge ahead with my plans for the future. I really wouldn’t be able to do all of this without your support of my small business and your understanding that I have to spread my wings and fly away for a little bit.
I’ll be heading back off at the end of January so will post a donation list then, my teen girls are absolutely desperate for bras and crop tops though so if you could save any you’re planning on getting rid of and bring them with you to the salon that would be AMAZING! 🙏🏻✨Vests too for the little girls would be great too actually.

Anyway… I’ve returned to FULL ON CHRISTMAS and the diary is getting booked up. We are open until Saturday 23rd and until 8pm every week night in December so plenty of time to fit in your pre-Christmas treatments. It just makes you feel better doesn’t it? I mean look at me with Santa!? My eyes look invisible they’re that desperate for a tint! Hahaha. My brows definitely could use some colour as well. Better get myself booked in for a lash lift and tint and our newest treatment The Brow Stain! Will do another post about The Brow Stain later in the week but from our initial trials it is pretty incredible!

We also have an exciting new starter this week offering our most requested additional treatment! We now have a nail artist! Katie starts tomorrow evening and will be doing two evenings a week to begin with. It’s something we’ve discussed for a long time so we’re really excited to welcome Katie to the team. Her manicures and nail art are just 💯 Follow to see her gorgeous work. ✨

I think that’s it. Remember we are always here if you need a little break from the madness of town this month or you or your kids just need a wee or a sit down.

All my love

Jessica xx

UPDATE.
THANK YOU all for your kind & generous donations 🙏🏻 It’s made the world of difference and Jessica sends her love & gratitude to you all. As you can see, the money YOU raised has made such a huge difference to so many kids on Pemba. Jessica has been working closely alongside Abdu, who runs the orphanage in Zanzibar, to make sure the the kids on Pemba get what they need. She says the teen boys have it the hardest because they really are all alone whereas the girls tend to band together. Can you imagine that? Young kids, no family, no home, just each other or all alone. How lucky are we?! Please please, if you can spare even £1 it will make all the difference to these children and so many more. Thank you. Have a wonderful weekend xx

Jessica is currently in Zanzibar where she’s taken all of your kind donations to the orphanage but now she needs your help again (Jessica can’t access the business account in Zanzibar so has asked me to share for her) if you have even £1 to donate please click the link in bio to raise money to feed the 150 street children living on the island of Pemba - a small island off the coast of Zanzibar. These kids have no family, no home, no food & no safety - they are in danger of s*xual abuse (2 brothers were recently taken to the orphanage in Zanzibar having contracted HIV via abuse) the long term plan is to expand the orphanage to make room to house at least some of these children but, for now, they urgently need food. The money raised will buy rice, flour, beans and eggs. £1 feeds a child for 1 day so every penny really does help. It’s Friday, if you could find it in your hearts to give up one small weekend treat and donate the money you would’ve spent it will be so very appreciated. Many thanks xx L

A few people have asked for the donations list for the orphanage so here it is on the grid for you to refer back to. I’m honestly so grateful for all of your help and support with this.

Re: Swimwear it will be pooled for all the children to use so don’t worry too much about sizes/amount it’s been worn.

Boxed/small gifts are for a raffle for a charity fundraiser over there so not kid specific.

Anything else that you think kids that live in an orphanage may like and you’d like to donate please bring it along. I’ve got shipping planned so anything I can’t take now can be shipped over.

If you don’t have anything to donate but still would like to contribute the Go Fund Me link is in my bio.

Thank you, Thank you # # #

It’s me on the beg again…I’m going to the orphange in two weeks to set up our new textiles project.
I always get asked what people can donate and this is the list this time.
The children are learning to swim which is essential living on a tiny island where most of the work they’ll be able to get as adults revolves around tourism and water. Most people in Zanzibar cannot swim which is obviously super dangerous. The children are currently learning to swim in their underwear with no swim aids. These are the things that I am taking this time around. Please drop in anything you’d like to donate to the salon. Thank you ❤️

The children of Zaso Orphanage - Zanzibar, organized by Jessica Harris-Lacy 23/10/2023

Hello friends,

I really dislike having to keep asking here but except for a couple of generous random strangers our network of donors for the orphange is literally my social media friends.

One of our lovely boys Nassor is having eye surgery today and the cost of the operation has eaten into the food budget at the orphange.
If you have any money to spare could you please consider donating it to the orphange. We haven’t had any donations for nearly a month now and as the orphange is completely self-funded these donations from the generous public are vital to keep the children fed.

In the meantime I am currently working on building a social enterprise over there, the older girls have completed their first year of sewing school and I’ll be shipping a large amount of donated fabric (courtesy of the lovely Daisy Brazil) so we can start being more self reliant by making and selling textiles. I was meant to be learning more about how to set up this social enterprise in Morocco last month but due to the earthquake this was not possible and our attention was put elsewhere. Therefore I’m completely winging it now. Anybody with shipping contacts or any other knowledge on setting up a non-profit in Africa please get in touch!
I’m personally self-funding this textile project, I may have to crowdfund at some point if I run into unaffordable costs though. I will never use any of the orphanages money towards this project. All money donated to the orphange always goes directly to feeding the children.

Anyway… Thank you for reading and for everybody’s continuing support of this project I’m so passionate about.

I wanted to give you all an update on what happened in Morocco. 🇲🇦❤️
Firstly thank you to all that donated to the original project. The first picture here is 135kg of your kind donations! (Emergency dash to TK Maxx for another suitcase was needed.)
We stayed at Heathrow the night before we traveled and woke up to the news of the earthquake. After a couple of hours of trying to contact friends on the ground to no avail I rang a restaurant I know to see what things were looking like on the ground and they said it was okay so we decided to go ahead with the mindset of “these donations will be needed more than ever.”
We were really lucky to check in with an angel of a lady at British Airways who waived the extra luggage fee when she heard we were going to Morocco. 🙏🏻🇬🇧❤️
On the plane it was just us, journalists and camera crew. We arrived to the warmest welcome from my friend Rachid and the owner of our Riad. I emailed my contact in Asni, the remote village we were supposed to be visiting with your kind donations and we put a plan together to get everything to them immediately. We were unable to access the village so we raced across Marrakech, your donations were put on the first lorry going to Asni and were so gratefully received.
We spent the week surrounded by so much love, raw emotion and displays of true selflessness fully immersed in local life. We helped with the packing and moving of an affected home, whizzed around the city on the back of mopeds delivering things and were welcomed into strangers houses where we witnessed first hand the incredible togetherness and community of this beautiful country.
Many people have asked if it would still be okay to visit Marrakech. Marrakech is safe! A few buildings were affected structurally but thats to be expected of a 1000 year old city. The clear up happened within days. Ignore the news. The best thing you can do to help this country recover is visit! Those in the affected remote villages need the tourism industry in Marrakech to continue to thrive to keep the economy going. You will be welcomed with open arms and will have the most magical time. Marrakech is still standing! Viva Marrakech! 🇲🇦❤️🌎

Thank you so much for all of the donations and promised donations from my post last week. Here is a donation list for another project we are visiting for abandoned babies. If you have any of these items that you’d like to donate please drop them by the salon (37 Rodney Road) before the 7th September. If you have anything not on the list that you think may be suitable and will fit in a suitcase slide into my DM’s and we’ll see what we can do. Thank you 🌎❤️🙏🏻

P.S Our flights and our 92kg of luggage have been paid for entirely by my avios points. If you haven’t got the BA Amex get on it. ✨✨

Huge thank you for everybody who has donated so far to make my birthday wish come true. I sent over 1 million Tanzanian Shillings yesterday which will cover about 1/3 of the food needed to feed the children in September giving every body some breathing room to sort out a more permanent contingency plan. If you’d like to donate for my birthday fundraising for the children of ZASO children’s home, the children that have my heart please clink the link below. ✨❤️🌎

It feels like the “summer season” has been here at the salon forever. Despite the dreadful weather here in the UK all of the high days, holidays, hens and weddings have continued and August has continued to be much the same. I think there must be lots of last minute flights to the sunshine being booked as we have had an insane influx in appointment requests. Unfortunately we had to decline 40 last minute appointment requests on Monday and Tuesday this week as our diary is already full. If you think you’ll need waxing, tinting or tanning this month please do get booked in early as we hate having to turn people away.
Happy August darlings. May the clouds break and the sun shine on you all. ☀️💛✨

It’s my birthday this week and I’m going to be turning 35! ✨✨✨
Instead of celebrating with an extravagant meal or trip away this year I have used the money I would’ve spent to buy the children some special treats; Big fat avocados, juicy Mangos, passion fruits, a whole sweetcorn each and of course some sweeties.

I think by now most of you know my heart is in Zanzibar with these children and nothing will make me happier than when the orphanage are financially stable.

It would be my birthday wish that together we could send another donation to the orphanage to see them through September. Really kindly and generously my friends and clients donated enough money to fill the orphanages food stocks for the month of August and I’d love to do the same again for September.

I’ve shared some information in the pictures of some of the children who share my birth month. They don’t have birthdays in Zanzibar and most likely they won’t know their birthdate or even what date it is but by ensuring they have plentiful food it would be a celebration in itself for the children at ZASO.

If you would like to help make my birthday wishes come true please click the link below for the Go Fund Me page. ✨🙏🏻

Lots of love

Jessica xx

The children at the orphanage I work with have completely run out of food. The owner of the orphanage, Abdu has had to go to India with his wife and new born baby as his wife needs major surgery in her home country.
Please help me build the food stocks up so the 42 children can eat and Abdu can focus on his very poorly wife.

A very happy Eid-ul-Fitr from us all at Jessica Lacy. ✨ May you be blessed with great joy, happiness and prosperity. ❤️

19/04/2023

Hello darlings,
Unfortunately for us all we are going to have to add 20% VAT onto every service we provide. This is absolutely gutting for me personally as I really pride myself on providing an affordable and attainable service but the business just cannot absorb this additional tax. The new price list will be introduced from the 1st May 2023.
If this increase means the difference between you getting waxed and not getting waxed please text us in total confidence and we will work something out. I know times are hard for us all so I’d much rather you carry on coming.
Thank you for your consistent loyalty and understanding. 🌿❤️✨

Let’s talk about the swimsuits!🩱☀️

I get asked ALL the time about my swimsuits and I’m not a gatekeeper so here you are; they’re from ✨☀️💛

They’re a British born company and their swimsuits are made entirely out of recycled plastic. They also donate a portion of their profits to grassroot environment and wildlife charities which is completely down my street.
🐋🦞🦈

Anyway… The stuff you want to know! They are SO comfortable, I love wearing them. I literally live in them on holiday and also they’re my go to swimsuit for wild and pool swimming here in the UK too. They stay put when jumping, diving and dancing… My b***s feel well supported and I just generally feel super comfortable and secure.
🏖

I’m a UK size 16 and I size down a to a 14 as recommended which is perfect. 🌊✨

Honestly if I were you I’d ditch the dreaded swimwear hunt this summer and just get yourself something from … You won’t regret it. ☀️

23/03/2023

Erm… I don’t want to jinx anything but is it a little bit Spring-like today? The salon is crazy busy with everybody de-fuzzing for upcoming holidays, wedding prep and general maintenance. If you think you’ll be requiring a wax in the next couple of weeks please get it booked in ASAP to avoid disappointment. We will always try to get you in somewhere but this week for example is full from Dawn until Dusk.
Fingers crossed for more sunshine, blue skies and the start of Spring 2023. 🌿

*FOOD FOR THE ORPHANED CHILDREN OF ZASO CHILDREN’S HOME*
Hey guys,
A few of you have said you’d like to help/donate to the gorgeous orphaned children living with HIV in Zanzibar. I have done a couple of orders buying fruit, vegetables, rice etc from a local wholesaler who delivers the food to the orphanage for free for me on Wednesdays.

Zaso Children’s home receives absolutely no funding and Abdu the owner self funds entirely.
Me ordering and sending the food directly from the wholesaler works out far better economically (the food shop cost literally half what I’d spent in Zanzibar) and is hugely helpful for Abdu and his team to receive the food in bulk leaving more money their end for essential medicine. It is also far fresher and better quality than the food they can usually obtain.

Abdu has asked if I can send more rice this week as the children are eating 18kg a day. If I double the rice quantity I sent last week it will cost an extra £60ish making the total food shop around £220.

If anybody would like to contribute towards the extra cost to feed the children you can PayPal me any amount to [email protected]

I then can exchange the currency into Tanzanian shillings in my multi-currency bank account and transfer the money to my Wholesale Food lady Neema who then will deliver the food to the Children’s home on Wednesday. I know this isn’t the most simple way of doing things but with the difficulty donating money directly to Zanzibar this is the only way I can do it currently. There are no admin costs in this, nobody receives any money or financially benefits. It’s just directly paying for the food which goes directly to the children.

Thank you for reading and thank you so much from Abdu and the children to anybody who is able to donate. No amount is too small.
Have a wonderful weekend. ✨
