September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month a dedicated annual campaign to raise awareness about childhood cancer. The aim is to promote early diagnosis, support research and improve access to treatment for children battling cancer in the UK.
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month shows support for affected children and their families while emphasising the need for continued research and medical advancements.
September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity for us to actively raise awareness about gynaecological cancers. By raising awareness of Gynae Cancers we can make a real difference in people's lives. By sharing information, stories and resources we can help individuals understand the signs and symptoms of these cancers, promote early detection and provide support to those affected. Raising awareness isn't just about sharing facts and figures – it's about creating a supportive environment where people feel comfortable discussing these sensitive topics. We can all contribute to spreading the message and encouraging open conversations about gynaecological health. Together, we can empower individuals to take charge of their health, encourage regular screenings and ultimately improve outcomes for those facing gynaecological cancers.
We're proud to support this September focusing on men’s urology health. Every year, nearly 75,000 men are diagnosed with a urology cancer. If something doesn’t feel right below the belt, be a LEGEND and seek medical advice

Why not pop along to the Grosvenor Museum Meet and Make Group, aimed at older people living with dementia and their loved ones. They meet every other Monday afternoon, from 2-4pm.
The Museum also has an accessible, dementia-friendly café in the entrance to the period house, to the rear of the museum. The café has been decorated in a 1940’s/50’s style with original objects and art works and offers hot and cold drinks and light refreshments; unfortunately, they do not offer meals. There is reading material and a few games also available for visitors to enjoy.
Opening times are the same as the museum: Mon-Fri 10.30am – 5pm and Sun 1pm-4pm

During the warmer months, it is more important than ever to make sure you stay hydrated.
A person living with dementia may become dehydrated if they’re unable to communicate or recognise that they’re thirsty, or if they forget to drink. This can lead to headaches, increased confusion, urinary tract infections and constipation. These can make the symptoms of dementia worse.
We have lots of support and advice to help ensure that the person drinks enough including:
• Use a clear glass or cup so the person can see what’s inside or use a brightly coloured one to draw attention instead.
• Encourage the person to drink throughout the day. The recommended amount is one and a half to two litres a day.
• Make sure the drinking cup or glass is suitable – not too heavy or a difficult shape.

Every bank holiday the NHS 111 'phone service sees huge increases in people contacting it about repeat prescriptions. GP practices and pharmacies will have limited opening hours over the Bank Holiday making it more challenging to access medicines at short notice. Waiting and using emergency or urgent services over the Bank Holiday weekend puts added pressure on already busy services.
Most GP practices need a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to issue a repeat prescription.
Remember to order your repeat medication in advance to ensure there is enough time for them to be processed and dispensed. Community pharmacies also generally need between 24 – 48 hours from when they receive a repeat prescription to prepare medicines. The easiest way to order repeat prescriptions is by using GP online services, via the NHS App or through your GP practice website.
If people feel unwell over the Bank Holiday weekend, they can check their symptoms and get access to advice using 111.nhs.uk online. NHS 111 is a free service which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For more information visit: nhs.uk/nhs-services/prescriptions/how-to-order-a-repeat-prescription/
If you need urgent medical help but you're not sure where to go, use 111 to get assessed and directed to the right place for you. Call, go online or use the NHS App.

Several factors can contribute to an individual's risk of developing prostate cancer. These include:
Age: Prostate cancer is more common in older men. The risk increases significantly after the age of 50 and the majority of cases occur in men over the age of 65.
Family history: Having a close relative (such as a father or brother) with prostate cancer increases the risk. Ethnicity: Prostate cancer is more prevalent in certain ethnic groups, particularly African-American men who have the highest incidence rates.
Genetic factors: Mutations in certain genes, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, which are known to increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancers in women, have also been associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer in men.
It's important to note that having one or more risk factors doesn't mean a person will definitely develop prostate cancer and individuals without any known risk factors can still develop the disease.
