Woodwork to Wellness
Welcome to our page. This project is, in part, a wellbeing centre using woodwork and other crafts to help enrich or improve its members' lives.
As a Health & Wellbeing Centre the Woodwork to Wellness project operates on several different levels. Primarily the project makes "things" and "stuff" including hand crafted items. At over 2000 sq ft the workshop is not small. It is both male and female friendly along with being age and disability friendly. Two work benches have been established specifically for wheelchair users giving the project
Thanks to Christine, Bryan and Andy for braving the cold weather (-1*) with me this afternoon at Bangor on Dee Racecourse to help with bucket collection at the race exits. We managed to collect an amazing £461 from the racegoers in just over an hour or so. Thank you again to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse for inviting us. Thanks Aled
This for all the right reasons has gone viral around much of the world. A great sentiment and piece of writing for a young person.
One Thousand Men Are Walking
By Joshua Dyer, aged 14 was tasked at school to write a poem for Remembrance Day 2019.
Joshua Dyer, aged 14 was tasked at school to write a poem for Remembrance Day 2019. An hour later, without any help he produced the following poignant poem.
One Thousand Men Are Walking
One thousand men are walking
Walking side by side
Singing songs from home
The spirit as their guide
they walk toward the light milord
they walk towards the sun
they smoke and laugh and smile together
no foes to outrun
these men live on forever
in the hearts of those they saved
a nation truly grateful
for the path of peace they paved
they march as friends and comrades
but they do not march for war
step closer to salvation
a tranquil steady corps
the meadows lit with golden beams
a beacon for the brave
the emerald grass untrampled
a reward for what they gave
they dream of those they left behind
and know they dream of them
forever in those poppy fields
there walks one thousand men
Joshua Dyer - 2019 (aged 14)
Since the release of the poem Joshua Dyer has received a letter from the office of The Duke of Edinburgh thanking him for “producing such a moving and heartfelt piece of creative writing”. Joshua has also attended BBC Hereford & Worcester to pre record for the Sunday Show and received offers from RAF High Wycombe and the NHS Mental Health Veterans Conference in Lincoln to read out his poem for Remembrance.

Our volunteers supported Westminster Park recently, making backing boards for their new signs installed across the park. They look great.
We are almost ready to welcome back members when we reopen on Monday (18th September).
Our new flooring post the flooding in July has been installed by local company Wilmac Flooring giving the front of the workshop a bright clean fresh look.
The same flooring is throughout the entrance, kitchen and bathrooms with the entrance ramp carpeted to the door which improves accessibility, safety and easier to clean. We’ve even managed to use some of the offcuts on the ramp into the workshop.
A big thank you to our volunteers this week. Simon, Andy, Vin and Tony “Airbus” who have helped me to clean, clear all the furniture, lift the old tiles, remove wall panels, remove the ramp, coat of paint on the walls and then put it all back together again once the flooring was finished ready for members.
Look forward to seeing everyone back next week.
Few photos of the before and after.
Thanks
Aled
Please be advised that the Shed will be closed all next week our new floor installed
Back open 18th September as normal

!!!! REOPENING MONDAY 31 JULY!!!!
The Shed will reopen from next Monday 31st July.
Over the past few week's we've removed some of the damage flooring and cleaned areas to make safe for members to come back in. Thank you for your patience and we look forward seeing you all back next week.
Thanks to everyone for your support.
Hi All,
I am guessing everyone will be curious of what's happened and why we've needed to close.
Following yesterdays downpour and showers, Tony and myself arrived to check on The Shed on any potential damage.
Inside the Shed we found a lake at the entrance, toilets and kitchen area all of it under a few inches of water. Entering the Workshop the office, woodstore, table saw, router areas were all sodden with water with water having entered the building from a number of points along the ceiling.
It's necessary therefore that we will need to remain closed until further notice whilst we work on getting electrics checked, floors lifted get the building dried and repair work completed
How long for, we aren't sure but initial assessment is that its likely to be for 2 - 4 weeks minimal.
Tony has reached out to most of the frequent members via phone today to advise on the closure but please pass on the closure to other members that may not be on social media.
We would ask in the interest of safety that members don't pop down to the Shed to take a look as we are likely to need to get our insurers in to assess and complete clean up and refitting work to the likes of the electrics and flooring.
Whilst the Shed is closed, I will look at suitable alternative venues so that members can meet but please bare with us as we work through this latest challenge.
Its likely we will need volunteers at some stage to help which we'll post on here with requests.
To say I'm gutted is an understatement
Thanks all
Aled

Have you visited the new Share Shop on Pepper St, Chester CH1 1DF near the Ampitheatre in Chester City Centre yet?
As well as recently donating some excess ceiling tiles to their new shop, even more exciting news is that we also have items made by our members for sale in the shop. The sales of items will help raise funds for both charities so why not pop in where you'll find our items on display right in front of their shop counter.
