The Albion Inn
We are about making people aware of the possible demise of the English pub in its traditional guise and, by their support, ensuring that does not happen.
The Albion Inn is looking to recruit someone to join its team to work behind the bar. Hours are negotiable, standard wage is paid and a meal is provided. The successful candidate will join a small but committed team providing food and drink to a mature and respectable cohort of customers. The Albion is a unique, traditional pub which specializes in real ale and good quality home-cooked food. It is busy with both visitors and regulars who enjoy the civilized atmosphere provided within its walls.
Experience of bar work preferred but not essential. Please contact Christina on 01244/340345.

Join us for Quiz Night at The Albion
Great beer available & half time snacks.
For the first time in what seems like decades but is actually only three years, the Albion Inn is able to celebrate St. George's Day in the usual fashion. Chester Morris, Kinnerton Morris and Mersey Morris will dance in the street from approximately 3pm on Saturday 23rd April. This will be followed inside The Albion by singing and possibly some ale drinking.
One key element will be missing from the day in the form of the legend that was Mr Mike Mercer but he would be incredibly proud that this Albion tradition of nearly 50 years is being continued.
Come and join in - it will be good. "Cry 'God for Harry, England and Saint George' (the battle cry from Henry V at Agincourt)"
It's Burns night tomorrow. Come and get warm by the fire at The Albion with a Dram and a helping of Haggis.
Customers and friends of Mike Mercer will be shocked and saddened to learn that he passed away on Friday 29th October, two weeks before the 50th anniversary of becoming the Licensee of the Albion Inn.
We have re-opened the pub (which is what Mike would of wanted) and will be open and serving food lunch and evening Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Please come in and share happy memories and stories about Mike and the Albion which will be so important to all our family. There is also a book of condolence for people to sign.
A private cremation, for close family only, will be followed by a Service of Celebration of Mike's life at St. John's Church (by the Amphitheatre) at 3.00 p.m. on Friday 19th November to which all friends are warmly invited. Please wear something cheerful and instead of flowers, donations will be made to Charities of Mike's choice.

Whilst we welcome the relaxing of restrictions which the Government has announced following the Covid Pandemic, at the Albion we will continue to be cautious to protect our customers and staff.
To that end, we will continue to provide table service, and our staff will continue to wear masks. Table numbers will be restricted and our screens will stay in place for the time being. We would respectfully ask customers to be aware of other customers’ ‘space’, to sit at a table from where drink and food orders will be taken and to use the hand-sanitisers provided.
We appreciate our customers' co-operation over the continuing restrictions at the Albion. This is a time when we are all feeling optimistic about a return to somewhere near normal, but this is tempered by a desire that everyone should keep safe going forward and try to avoid another lock-down
Charlie has had to have three teeth out! He is back on form and he will be on patrol in the pub and meeting his Fan Club very soon. Thanks to James and the team at Storrars for looking after him and thanks to Jill for his cat milk!!
Here at the Albion we are absolutely delighted that our very own Matt Baker has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours list. This award is well and truly deserved. Here he is with Miss Patricia Hammond at one of our 'do's'. They make a wonderful sound together. Well done Matt and many congratulations!!!
Beer for this week- end. Eddie has been busy making the bolts in the cellar!!!!! He says at least its cool down there!!!!
What a welcome sight this was when I got in from a wet and miserable trip to the Post Office! Come in and toast your toes, have a beer and a plate of Clare's home-made curry!!! 😋
On Monday 17th we opened the doors to customers. How strange it was to have people in the Albion AGAIN!!! They were sitting down, enjoying Clare's wonderful food, having a drink, chatting, laughing and generally socialising in a way they hadn't done for over five months. It was AMAZING! The first thing we had to do before opening was to remove the Christmas decorations (Mike wanted to leave them up but he was out-voted!!!) Charlie (the cat) has been welcoming old friends back - and of course making new ones - and our Barman, Eddy, has had smoke coming from his heels as he rushes around serving people at their tables and taking the food orders! Our opening times have been slightly tweaked (ie not open Wednesday or Sunday) and hours are as follows:- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 12 noon until 2.30 (food until 2.00), 5.00 until 11 (food until 8.00), Saturday 12 noon until 3.00 (food until 2.30), 6.00 until 11.00 (food until 8.30). Come and join in - you would be very welcome.
One picture shows the Albion with the Christmas decorations and one shows the Albion without!!!
We are very disappointed that our Christmas and New Year festivities will be so very different this year. We will miss the wonderful contributions and characters that are Mr. Matt Baker and Miss Patricia Hammond. We will miss them entertaining us all - it is something many of us look forward to and enjoy so much. However, we will do our best to celebrate the festivities and, to this end, we are re-opening tomorrow (14th). Open Monday and Tuesday lunch and evening, Thursday, Friday and Saturday lunch and evening. Please give us a ring if you would like to book a table/tables. Clare has the pans bubbling, the curries marinating and the Staffordshire Oatcakes are winging their way from Burslem!!!! We have the Christmas decorations up, the chimney has been swept and the fire will be lit. Come and join us - it will be lovely to see you all because we have missed you!!!! Ps Charlie says hurry back he has been SO fed up without you!!!!
We will remember them!!!
What difficult times we are all facing. To help our customers (and us!) we are open lunch and evening today (Monday), Tuesday and Wednesday for food and drinks. We are offering St. Austell's 'Proper Job' at £1 a pint and our other beers (Wainwright's and Tribute) at £2 a pint Plus Carling, Thatcher's and Guinness at £2 a pint.
Just to let all our lovely customers know that, from this week, we are changing our mid week closing day to Wednesday. So we will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday both lunch and evening and we will be serving food at the usual times -
12 until 2 and 5 (6.00 on Saturday) until 8. These are extremely difficult times for EVERYONE and all Licensees and small business owners are really appreciative of the support they are receiving from regular customers and visitors. KEEP IT UP!!!
Tomorrow is the last day on the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme. We are serving lunch 12 until 2 and evening meals 6 until 8.
Play it COOL over a CURRY (Clare's own and not that cool!!!😛);
Go OVERBOARD on an OATCAKE (Staffordshire's famous, with lots of fillings such as cheese, ham and leek, McSween's Haggis meat or vegetarian;
Go LOOPY over LIVER (cooked with onions and bacon in a cider gravy);
Go VIRTUOUS over VEGETARIAN (our meat-free options are tasty and interesting).
The weather may have turned chillier but we have a warm 'safe' welcome for you in the Albion. Enjoy your week-end!
At last!
We are pleased to tell all our lovely customers that the Albion Inn will re-open this Thursday, 20th August. It has taken longer than we hoped but we wanted to keep our customers and our staff safe. All is ready and we look forward to welcoming everyone back into a covid-safe environment.
We will be serving lunch from 12 noon until 2.00 p.m. and evening meals from 5 pm until 8 pm (6 until 8 on Saturday) and we are part of the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme (telephone bookings would be helpful).
We find it hard to believe that the Albion has had no foot-fall for nearly five months and so we look forward to seeing everyone again. Charlie is absolutely delighted that the dedicated members of his Fan Club will be back to their old tricks once more!!!
Hello to everyone who follows our page!!! Our proposed re-opening date of 3rd August has, sadly, been postponed primarily due to staff shortages. We will announce an opening date in the very near future.
We appreciate your patience over this and hope you will all be patient just a little bit longer!!! We are making the Albion, our staff and customers as COVID-safe as we can, adhering to medical guide-lines and our Risk Assessment is complete. Because of this, the Albion does look slightly different but we are pleased with how it has all panned out.
We miss you all (well some of you!!!!) and we hope to welcome your presence in the Albion in the very near future.
Keep safe and warmest wishes to everyone. (Charlie sends a big purr).
It is a long time since we have posted on our page but we wanted to let you know what is happening here at the Albion Inn. We will not be opening on the 4th July because of the various restrictions which make it difficult for smaller pubs like ours. However, we hope to open in mid to late July and will post definite details on here. At the moment we are working hard (as are all businesses) to adhere to Government guidelines for the safety and well-being of our customers and staff - we want to keep you and your pint/food experience a safe and happy one. We have events planned for when we re-open including a visit from our very own mezzo-soprano Miss Patricia Hammond with her multi-talented accompanist Mr. Matt Redman. They, like many singers, musicians and actors have found the lock-down period challenging, both mentally and financially, and we want to do what we can to support them. Likewise, we are keen to re-instate our 20's/30's jazz/swing evenings with Malcom Hogarth, Izzie Turner et al. But most of all we want people to enjoy the Albion again. It has been so quiet and strange without our customers.
We are missing all our wonderful customers and Charlie, the Albion's ginger feline, has been in a mood since we closed on 21st March (hence the picture!) and he is missing his strokes, cuddles, cheese butties and Auntie Sandra's 'Dreamies'!
SO, keep in touch, keep well and we are hoping to see you all very soon.
What better excuse do you need to come out on a Monday than to come down to The Albion to wish our wonderful landlord a happy 80th birthday!? HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR MERCER!
