What impact does have on energy efficiency in oil refineries? Can the Cokebusters service actually make the process of producing the black stuff a little more green?!
Let's find out...
https://cokebusters.com/how-mechanical-cleaning-improves-energy-efficiency-in-refineries/
How Mechanical Cleaning Improves Energy Efficiency in Refineries - Cokebusters Refineries operate under extreme conditions, processing vast amounts of crude oil and other hydrocarbons at high temperatures and pressures. Over time, coke deposits – carbon-rich, hard substances – build up on the inner walls of furnace and heat exchanger tubes, severely impacting performance. ...
Following our feature in this year's edition of 'Survive and Thrive', we are thrilled to see Cokebusters has been shortlisted as a finalist in the EIC (Energy Industries Council) World Energy Supply Chain Awards!
Four members of the Cokebusters USA team will be attending the Regional Awards ceremony in Houston tomorrow evening, which is dedicated to recognising and celebrating excellence in the energy industry.
Today Cokebusters is announced as the National Winner in the ‘Digital Revolution’ category of the British Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2024! This comes after the recent news that we won the ‘Digital Revolution’ category of the Regional Future Business of the Year Awards.

Many of you will know last month descended on Houston, causing significant damage and leading to a power outage at our premises there. As the city began to pick up the pieces, the storm system shifted north and caused tornadoes in Illinois. One of our clients there was hit hard and despite recovery efforts at home, our team knew they had to act quickly.
Four specialised units and accompanying operators were despatched to Illinois, where they were able to help restore essential operations for our client.
This experience highlighted our team's exceptional preparedness and resilience. Mother Nature will sometimes throw curveballs our way, but thanks to everyone’s dedication Cokebusters was able to turn a challenging situation into a success.
The challenge of internally inspecting so called "unpiggable" pipelines is familiar to many operators. At Cokebusters we have been on a mission to solve this problem for almost twenty years and continue to invest heavily in to improve upon the design of our patented 3rd and 4th generation single module pigs.
Our 3rd generation inspection tool can rapidly scan internal and external pipe surfaces across a diameter range of 2.5”-12” ID. And our bespoke 4th generation device is believed to be the smallest intelligent pig worldwide, operating down to 1.5” ID.
These "smart" pigs are suited not only to the complex serpentine coil networks found within heaters and steam generators, but also to process piping systems and pipelines. We'll be testing these tools in subsea pipelines for the first time in the coming weeks and look forward to sharing the results with you!

Our Story
Cokebusters roots reach back to the beginnings of fired heater decoking with pigs (pigging). Back in 1993 two senior members of Cokebusters worked on the first mechanical decoke in Europe at the Elf Refinery in Wales. Smart Pig R&D began in the late 1990s, with the first patent application made by John Phipps in May 2000.
In April 2005 the incorporation of Cokebusters Ltd. brought together the long heritage of “pigging” and the forward thinking endeavours of tube inspection under one roof. The company has been going from strength to strength ever since, functioning out of our pre-war Armoury Building on Hawarden Aviation Park just a stone’s throw from the BAe/Airbus Factory.
The wealth of industrial experience accumulated by our team of engineers and operators has informed our ability to develop innovative technologies which enable us to best serve our clients. For example, after years of mechanical decoking, it was the close understanding of furnace tube geometry which led to the single-bodied Merlin Mark IV Smart Pig. As a consequence, Cokebusters is now the only company in the world to offer a high performance Combined Service of expert decoking and tube inspection, delivered with time and cost efficiency.
