On-farm tech must make sense (and cents)
We are at the point where the possibilities of technology know no bounds. We have reached a place where we appear full of data, with more different data sets arriving daily and an ever growing desire to find ways to use this data, from generating improvements, validating supply chains and, more recently, answering questions around sustainability.

"A year into my Tech Director role at OPTIfarm, I have seen first-hand that accurate real-time data is a key tool to success. Collecting and analysing data is the easy part; correctly interpreting and reacting appropriately to that data is what really adds value – identifying the ‘why’ not just the ‘what’." - Nigel Strain, Technical Director.

Is Real-Time Data and Artificial Intelligence the key to success? - OPTIfarm I have seen first-hand that real-time data is the key to success. Collecting data is easy; correctly interpreting and reacting to that data is where the value is.
Proud to be sponsoring the future stars of the game!
The under 10's at Belper Town FC look very smart in their new uniforms.
We are looking forward to following their success in the future.
We're extremely excited to announce that we have won the 2022 AgTech Breakthrough Award for Animal Data Solution Of The Year!
A massive well done to all the team. This award is a testament to you and your passion for using real-time data to enhance livestock, welfare, and productivity globally.
By the time you've centralised your data, and reviewed it from the top down it's outdated.
People need to shift their mindset to connecting rather than collecting data.
When you consider your data strategy, prioritise a knowledge-based software platform that automatically pulls live production data, then uniquely assesses the data while always considering the unique variables involved with farming.
Doing that helps ensure your on-farm staff are given guidance with real-time information.
Great results for our sister group Applied. They ended last week on a high, ready for another fantastic week ahead.

Our CEO, David Speller at his best as usual in one of the seminars he is holding this week as a part of his visit as a guest of Arbor Acres in South Africa. David is accompanied by our local representative Evert Cornelissen, Managing Director of MVP Sales (PTY) LTD.
During his visit, David will meet about 150 Arbor Acres broiler farmers. We are happy to say that OPTIfarm is already serving GP, PS, and Broiler farms in South Africa.
The future of farming with a unique approach is just a call away.
Heat Stress Prevention
It's difficult for a fully feathered broiler to lose excess heat once temps reach 27ºc and above, extra challenging when stocking density is at its peak with the excess heat trapped between the birds and litter.

Heat Stress Prevention in Poultry - OPTIfarm Record-breaking temperatures, as well as record-breaking production year on year, means that removing excess heat is an increasing challenge.
Great results for the Applied Group team! Congratulations to all involved.

Delivering insights to the root cause.
We are the world's only real time, 24/7, combined digital & human-based optimisation service for livestock farms.
looking at the data to tell you what went wrong is great but the why is far more important.
If you have poor water intake for example there could be a multitude of issues: this is why we work differently, delivering you insights to the root cause, not just the distraction.
www.optifarm.co.uk/plf
Water temperature plays a major role on water intake in birds, keeping it cool is a challenge we see all too often and something we monitor closely.
Birds can tolerate low water temperature. However, they will suffer from extreme thirst rather than drink water that is too warm. Keeping water temperature below body temperature, ideally around 18-21ºC or 64-70ºF is ideal for water consumption.
During hot weather its important that the birds receive cool, clean and fresh water. You can ensure this by
- Flushing drinker lines regularly
- Insulating water pipes
- Position water tanks and pipes underground
- Avoid the use of dark coloured water tanks

Looking at on farm hatching in the Netherlands and the UK.
Keeping a constant set temperature point early before eggs are placed is a concentration point in the decision matrix which we watch carefully.
We also see some slight differences in technique in the first 7 days over conventional chick placement, the AI is constantly learning to provide a solution to the circumstance, watched closely by the tech team.
There is no doubt that the on farm hatching concept is widely supported and will grow.
Today on , let's remember that every single person has the power to encourage and value diversity through individual actions.
Here at OPTIfarm we recognise the pivotal role of all female talent, providing the much-needed diversity and perspective in our industry.
Everyone is seeing AI technologies and data being utilised across the supply chain.
We are using data to help overcome various challenges and make improvements in production, nonetheless, we would like your input: Where do you think AI and Big Data will take the industry in the coming months and years?
