⚠️Hard Ground!!⚠️
With the high temperatures this week the ground is starting to harden up! Please be aware as tempting as it can be, cantering/galloping your horses on the hard ground can lead to lameness. The concussion horses experience from the hard ground puts a great strain on their tendons and ligaments. Injuries such as splints, bruised soles, fractured pedal bones, strains and ligament damage are often seen as a result of the hard ground.
We hope you enjoy the nicer weather and the freshly cut stubble/open fields but please do take into consideration the surfaces and conditions before allowing your horse to have a good blast! 🏇🏇🏇
No fair weather riders here
The lovely Giselle after her birthday massage last week, and feeling much better than the first time I saw her 🥳
Looking back at what a busy year we have had in 2023 all the lovely horses I’ve met and friends, looking forward to 2024!
Most horses on a stabled and turnout routine will walk roughly 1km a day in the field, horses with more access to turnout will walk nearer to 5km per day, we here know how important it is for horses to move as much as possible so in times of limited turnout due to the weather or injury we walk, and walk, with the dogs usually, that way we are doing the best we can for their bodies, but also minds. Happy horses are healthy horses.
Quiet people make spooky horses, and spooky people make quiet horses.
We are humans! We are weird! And if we keep tiptoeing around our horses, or being as quiet as possible on and off their backs...then they aren't getting the full experience of us. Have a dance party with your horse next time you see them! Randomly scream into the wind. Make weird sudden noises on their back, sing karaoke on the trail, play some charades while tacking up...whatever it is, do it. It's good for horses to get used to humans doing strange things, so do them! Step outside your own comfort zone and get extreme. We work hard to desensitize them to plastic bags and other objects...but don't forget to desensitize them to the most unpredictable of things...us 💕

We had a fab week grooming at Osberton International Horse Trials the dogs especially enjoyed being really lorry dogs
For anyone following unfortunately my lovely Bean lost her foal yesterday morning the most perfect c**t foal that decided he was coming 3 feet out first and got himself stuck, Bean was an absolute trooper and got him out before the Vet arrived but did herself some damage, Luckily she is now on the mend and having some well earned rest with lots of snacks and doing really well, an awful day but atleast for Bean a full recovery ❤️🩹
And we have waxed up, the wait is on the suspense is killing me and I don’t think I will sleep again until both Bean and baby Bean safely delievered/arrived! WISH ME LUCK
Swipe to get a kiss from Bean
How many times a day do you have to say “I love my horse I love my horse I love my horse” ?
Here I am in full swing of rehab with mine, he not strong enough to carry a rider in trot yet after a great deal of time off, I don’t want to work him on a surface as we are trying to strengthen the suspensories and heal a hole (with the help of our Equinetendon.com Equistride boot) surfaces are notoriously bad support for ligaments and tendons as the cushioning places extra strain on them, so running round the road it is… for now anyway, we have to adapt the plan to each stage of his rehab for now the extra strain on the joints from the hard ground is much less troublesome than the extra strain on the ligament from the surface, as we progress I will continue to weigh the pro’s and con’s on his body as a whole unit to hopefully give him a successful recovery… 🤞
A theraplate and and ear scratch, this is the life….
Getting on with our rehab plan, he’s never been the biggest fan of being “alone” but all the hand walking we’ve been doing over the last few months has really helped, he’s much braver now, here he is in his Equistride boot, I will do a proper post on this boot when I have time to do it justice
The lovely Bean who is finally starting to look like she’s due to foal in 2 months - Bean is in foal to Paddy of Liosin - AES graded and licensed stallion - check him out he’s 😍 too
This one of my own horses that unfortunately has been lame some time now, now we’re down to the route cause of the problems I am going to do my best to rehab him using a mixture of techniques including massage, theraplate, k taping, lasers, chiropractic, barefoot trimming (from a brilliant farrier) and a hefty Equistride boot, there is no miracle cure for this horse but hopefully working together with multiple specialists and tailoring a rehab plan to the horse between us we can give him the best chance of a good recovery!
Here is he enjoying a massage and Theraplate simultaneously - wish me luck 🤞🤞
