Acupuncture could be a safe and feasible management option for IBS-D

A study recently published in JAMA Network Open, a preliminary study evaluating the effectiveness and practicality and the effectiveness of acupuncture in Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhoea (IBS-D) management.

Researchers also assessed the different acupuncture methods on patients with IBS-D such as SA (Specific Acupoint) Therapy, NSA (Non Specific Acupoint therapy, or NA (Non Acupoint) Therapy.

The study showed considerable improvement in the outcomes that were observed on all groups. It has also been evident in the study that acupuncture is a safe and practical option for IBS-D patients.

DesoBody & DesoFace Fat Dissolving Injections special offer for October and November ONLY limited availability 20% off!

Say goodbye to stubborn fat with Deso fat loss injections.

What is Deso?
Deso is a fat dissolving injection that helps treat localised, stubborn fat on the face and body that just won’t shift with diet and exercise. It is a form of lipolysis, a non-invasive treatment which accelerates the body’s natural fat removal process.
The active ingredient is deoxycholic acid – a bile acid which naturally emulsifies and solubilises dietary fats in the intestine. It is a cytolytic medication which means it helps break down a specific type of cell; in this case fat cells, when injected under the skin to give a slimmer and firmer outcome.

How does it work?
The area of concern is injected with Deso to liquefy (and permanently destroy) fat cells, which drain naturally through the body’s lymphatic system over the course of a few weeks.
Deso is separated into concentrations for the face and the body, and is an effective treatment for double chins, love handles, inner arms, stomach fat, inner thighs, knees and more.
While Deso is not designed to treat obesity, the injectable treatment is a successful solution for targeting specific areas.

Cupping is an alternative therapy that uses suction cups to stimulate your skin and muscles. It can be done on your face or body.
The suction promotes increased blood circulation, which may help relieve muscle tension, promote cell repair, and aid in other regeneration.
It’s also said to improve the flow of your “qi” (pronounced “chee”). Qi is a Chinese word meaning life force. Cupping is used for many ailments from pain to skin care and much more.
Is facial cupping the same as body cupping?
Yes and no. Although they’re based on the same principle of restoration, facial and body cupping are executed differently.
Facial cups are typically smaller and softer. They’re used to gently pull the skin away from deeper layers of fascia. This increases blood flow to the area and rejuvenates the skin without leaving cup marks behind.

Over time this practice improves the complexion and diminishes fine lines and wrinkles and greatly improves muscle tone to the face giving a full and lifting effect to the whole area. This is a natural face lift.

Body cupping, on the other hand, is primarily used to alleviate aches and pains.
Cup marks are almost always left behind, but they do serve a diagnostic purpose; the size, shape, and colour are said to reflect the amount of “stagnation” or cellular waste buildup. These marks fade as your lymphatic system processes the waste.

How does it work?
The suction effect pulls blood into the area of skin underneath the cup. This saturates the surrounding tissue with fresh blood and promotes new blood vessel formation. This is not painful and patients find it deeply relaxing 😊
Cupping also promotes sterile inflammation. Sterile inflammation is a form of pathogen-free trauma. With cupping, it results from mechanical trauma.
The vacuum-like suction separates different layers of tissues, resulting in microtrauma and tearing. This triggers an inflammatory response, flooding the area with white blood cells, platelets, and other healing aids.

What are the benefits?
Facial cupping has been shown to:
* increase oxygen-rich blood circulation
* strengthen skin and connective tissues
* stimulate cells responsible for collagen production
* relax muscle tension
Because of this, the practice is said to:
* brighten skin
* minimize the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles
* tone chin, jawline, neck, and décolletage
* decrease puffiness
* regulate oil production
* improve nutrient delivery and product absorption - there are many skin rejuvenating cocktails on offer and these will be discussed with your full facial consultation.

Treatment time:
one session a week for the first 4/6 weeks, then maintenance appointments once a month is recommended and when the patient is happy with the results further maintenance appointments can be scheduled.

What Is Vitamin B12? Are your energy levels low?

Vitamin B12 is a crucial B vitamin for the body. We need it for brain function, nerve tissue health, and the production of red blood cells. It is a water-soluble vitamin, like all other B vitamins, which means it can dissolve in water and travel through the bloodstream.

Stores of B12 in the body can last up to 4 years without being replenished, so you may not notice deficiency problems to develop for a while, which may add to the confusion. B12 helps your body in a variety of ways, from bone health and brain health to mood improvements and energy boosts.

Why Is B12 So Important?
Vitamin B12 helps to keep the body’s nerves and blood cells healthy, alongside helping to make DNA, the genetic material in all cells. It helps to prevent megaloblastic anaemia that makes people tired and weak.

Anaemia is the general term for having fewer red blood cells than normal or when people have unusually low amounts of haemoglobin (a protein found in the red blood cells that carry oxygen in your body) in each red blood cell.

What About Vegan B12?
As Vitamin B12 is something you can almost only get from animal products such as meat, fish, dairy products, and eggs, those on a vegan diet can miss out on it. But there is actually a common misconception about B12 and animals… Many think they actually produce it themselves, when in fact it is produced by bacteria, meaning animals must obtain it directly or indirectly from this bacteria.

I offer B12 boosters starting on a weekly course for 4 weeks then monthly boosters are advised.

The Symptoms Of B12 Deficiency

Feeling weakened or fatigued are very common symptoms of Vitamin B12 deficiency. These symptoms materialise because your body doesn’t have enough B12 to make red blood cells to transport oxygen around your body.

As you are unable to effectively transport oxygen to your body’s various cells, you feel tired and weak. In the elderly, this is often caused by an autoimmune condition called pernicious anaemia.

Feelings Of Pins And Needles
A more serious side effect of long-term B12 deficiency is nerve damage.

B12 is an important contributor to the metabolic pathway that produces a fatty substance called myelin. This myelin surrounds your nerves as a form of protection or insulation and a lack of it becomes apparent over time.

Myelin is produced differently without access to B12, and your nervous system is then unable to function properly. One of the most common signs of this is “paresthesia”, more commonly known as the sensations of pins and needles.

The neurological symptoms, such as pins and needles, associated with B12 deficiency, usually occur alongside the anaemia mentioned above, but one study found that around 28% of people had neurological symptoms of a B12 deficiency without any signs of
Jaundiced Or Pale Skin.

Another common symptom for people with a Vitamin B12 deficiency is looking pale, or with a slightly yellow tinge to the skin and the whites of their eyes, this is known as jaundice. This happens when the lack of B12 causes problems with your body’s red blood cell production.

As B12 plays a vital role in the production of the DNA needed to make red blood cells, a B12 deficiency means the instructions for building these cells are incomplete, and so they are unable to divide. As mentioned earlier, this causes megaloblastic anaemia.

These red blood cells are too large to pass out of your bone marrow and into circulation, which means you don’t have many red blood cells circulating, so your skin can appear pale.

The fragility of these red blood cells also means many of them break down and cause an excess of bilirubin. Bilirubin is a red/brown coloured substance, produced by the liver when it breaks down old blood cells, large amounts of this is what gives your skin and eyes a yellowish tinge.

Glossitis Or Mouth Ulcers
Glossitis refers to inflammation of the tongue. This is when your tongue changes colour and shape, making it red, painful, and swollen. It may also make your tongue look smooth, as all the tiny bumps containing your taste buds stretch out and disappear.

Not only is glossitis painful, but it can also change the way you eat and speak. Studies have shown that a swollen or inflamed tongue that has long, straight lesions (areas of skin that look different from the surrounding area, often bumps or patches) could be an early sign of a Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Some people with B12 deficiencies may experience other oral symptoms such as mouth ulcers, pins and needles on the tongue, or a burning and itching sensation in the mouth.

Vision disturbances
Blurred or distorted vision could also be a symptom of a B12 deficiency.

This occurs when the lack of B12 results in nervous system damage to the optic nerve that leads to your eyes. This damage can disrupt the nervous signals that travel from the eye to the brain, impairing your vision. This is known as optic neuropathy.

This is often reversible by supplementing with B12.

How To Avoid B12 Deficiencies

For many of us, a Vitamin B12 deficiency should be easy to prevent by ensuring you are getting enough B12 in your diet. You can get this through food or supplementation boosters.

You can get B12 through foods such as:

Meat such as beef, liver, and chicken
Fish and shellfish such as salmon, tuna fish, trout, and clams
Dairy products such as milk and cheese
Eggs
Fortified breakfast cereals.
If you can’t eat foods high in B12, it’s suggested that you take a Vitamin B12 supplement, it acts as a consistent and reliable source to ensure you avoid any deficiencies

How Do Vegans Get B12?

Vegans can naturally get B12 through their diet, fortified foods, or through a supplement.

Can You Get Enough B12 From A Vegan Diet?
Taking a supplement provides your body with a safe dose of pure, high-quality and bioavailable B12, giving your body the best chance of optimal absorption and retention. Supplementation and a varied plant-based diet will allow you to meet your requirements and provide a healthy, safe source of B12 that doesn’t harm animals or the planet.

Do remember, the less frequently you obtain your B12, the more B12 you will need to take as B12 is best absorbed in small amounts on a regular basis hence why intramuscular boosters are ideal.
These boosters are a natural form of B12 rather than the many synthetic variants out there.

Vitamin B12 is such an important part of your diet if you want to stay healthy. If you’re looking to begin taking a Vitamin B12 supplement then please enquire about the many other benefits of an intramuscular booster. They are immediately absorbed into the body rather than going through the gastrointestinal tract and better for those with sensitivities of the stomach.

Other vitamin boosters are also available.

CUPPING THERAPY

How does Fire and Dry Cupping therapy work?

Initially, the vacuum application of the cup pulls blood into an area. This leads to the effected tissue becoming saturated with fresh blood. It can often leave a circular mark, though this usually disappears within a few days, and happens to a lesser extent on subsequent treatments.

New blood vessel formation occurs in response to blood being draw into the tissue. This leads to an increase in nutrient and oxygen content within the area.

Due to the vacuum effect, the soft tissue often experiences micro-trauma and separation between the tissue layers.

The body responds to this micro-trauma by stimulating an inflammatory response, which is part of the natural process of healing. Furthermore, the body releases chemicals such as white blood cells, platelets and fibroblasts to initiate healing.

Finally, the stretch that is produced in the soft tissue and fascia leads to a relaxation effect within the muscle, which results in improved range of motion and performance.

Cups can be left static over painful areas or used in a sliding technique with essential oils for a deeply relaxing massage.

Cupping therapy can be deeply relaxing and beneficial for many ailments from pain relief to immune system boosting, allergies and much more.
