A gorgeous idea.

These stunning linen bags are constant memory.

Following from the recent Arts Trail Jackie at was contacted by a customer who had seen her bags. She had several of her late husbands suits which she couldn't bear to part with.

Because Jackie has a background in menswear design and now make bags from suits she is able to keep the integrity of the original garment and make it into something else. She is known for creating the fully lined and serviceable shoulder bags from suits of all kinds and fabrics.

In this case the client was particularly impressed by the way that the bags are fully repurposed whilst maintaining the memory of the original wearer.
Jackie made four bags from the linen jackets worn by her late husband. The client said it was like carrying memory of him with her every time she used one, a comfort in a way.

GUEST ARTIST 24th June - 8th July

Angela Skabrin is a skilled artist who specialises in traditional Realism oil paintings. She left her native Lithuania in 2000 to live in the UK. Angela graduated from the Klaipeda Art School in 1987.
Her first collection, which drew inspiration from Italian operas, was well received at the Capital Gallery. Since then, she has concentrated on still life and portrait painting.

She has taken part in art fairs organised by Undertherainbow Events in Bluewater and Rochester as well as the SMAG Summer Art Fair in Blackheath, where she has sold a number of her paintings. Angela received recognition in January 2024 when she was admitted to the esteemed International Guild of Realism.

We live in such a varied county, this poem celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of Sussex. Kipling argues that while all people love the earth, each person has a special place in their heart. For him, this place is Sussex, with its rolling hills, stark downs, and rugged coastline.

Are taking the guest artist walls for the next two weeks.

10th - 24th June 2024

Andy uses many different mediums, but specialises in acrylics on wood.
He is inspired by British coast and wildlife found there.

The work is painted on locally sourced reclaimed wooden boards. The boards are sanded to enhance the natural characteristics before the paint is applied.

Each piece is original and unique. Iridescent and metallic paints are added to lift the paintings when viewed from alternative angles. this brings the paintings to life in natural light.

People have been stopped in their tracks, so all good news!

Everyone you meet as 'staff' at the gallery runs the gallery.

We have a steering committee with who over see the business side of things, but actually running the gallery day to day is down to us all. We think this makes us a bit different.

We can offer low commission rates, and charge low fees for exhibiting to our resident and guest artists. We feel that by doing that we can support emerging and established artists in our area. Our aim is not to make a profit but to help our members earn an income from being creative. We are a supportive and thriving little community.

We hope you find the gallery a place where you can pop in, have a look at what's new. Obviously, we'd love it if you buy something too.

Resident paper artist is taking part in a fabulous exhibition at do pop in.

Oxmarket Contemporary has curated and hosts a stunning two week botanical exhibition “Art in Bloom” across both the John Rank and Wilson Gallery to coincide with RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Local artists will showcase their interpretation of the theme with all types of art and media. Flowers, plants, fruits, everything that reflects the title representing a wide range of techniques and styles from traditional prints and paintings to ceramic, jewellery, textile and 3D creations.

COLIN NORGATE AT CRAFTWORKS 2024 – SHOREDITCH TOWN HALL – 15th – 17th May 2024

We are very excited to announce has been invited to show at this inaugural Craftworks. Craftworks is a three-day, free to attend London exhibition, which will host the very best of arts, crafts, and design from all corners of the craft sector. The ultimate trade show, exhibiting both traditional and contemporary makers, as well as live seminars, workshops and panel sessions with some of the finest minds in the craft sector.

This will be Colin’s first London exhibition and he is rather excited about the prospect.
Colin was specially invited due to his listing on the Crafts Council Selected List – and one of the first exhibitors to sign up for this exciting new venture.
Colin has concentrated on two signature ranges within his work, these will be on his stand 05 in the Assembly Rooms at Shoreditch Town Hall as part of London Craft week.

The lattice range of furniture, including the stools and umbrella stand he originally designed in 2003 and made the prototypes in 2005.
The second signature range is his turned coloured work, incorporating sculptural square bowls, hollow forms, half coloured and half-timber bowls.
In addition to his selected pieces being shown at this event – Colin has been invited to be a panel of speakers on Friday 17th May (1.40pm) – “How Craft Made Me” to talk about his hidden disabilities and other life changing circumstances that shaped his inspirational career of discovery and many challenges.

A warm welcome to our guest artist for the next fortnight Jan Bennett.

Jan says "My paintings are colourful, abstract, unplanned and unfold as I work, sometimes resembling the fragments of a half-remembered dream, or taking on a geometric map-like slant of forgotten avenues and dwellings or old ridgeways and barrows where old souls once passed.

Mainly I work with oils but as long as it involves paint, I’m equally happy to play around with scraps of cardboard and embellishments or hang off a ladder to revamp my walls.

I’d always been interested in art and while exploring family history was fascinated to discover that many ancestors on both sides worked creatively, so perhaps I’ve drawn the long straw! However, it wasn’t until I enrolled on a paint-effects course at Chichester College (then C.O.A.S.T.) as a mature student that my touch paper was truly lit, becoming hooked as we ragged/bagged/stippled/dragged and faux-marbled furniture and interiors.

But life moves on; and other avenues were waiting to be explored. Watching my garden grow throughout the seasons and the interaction of insects and birds always provides inspiration and a former facet included the morphing of papier-mache models to be displayed in my studio windows: Life in the Undergrowth, and All Things Bright and Beautiful."
