“Could you ever forgive the young stranger who killed your son? The first step is the hardest.”
The Long Road is a play that hits hard, right from the start: a young man murdered by a stranger in an unprovoked attack, his family falling apart in their struggle to deal with it. We meet them at a critical point: the mother starts to wonder whether she should meet the young girl who killed her son, thereby setting in motion a series of events that will lead either to disaster or maybe even to... forgiveness?
Written by acclaimed playwright Shelagh Stephenson, The Long Road was developed with The Forgiveness Project, an organisation that attempts to help perpetrators and victims of crime find their way through the turmoil.
“This is an important play that will leave no one unaffected: I cried just reading it. It appears at first glance a grim subject but there’s hope, redemption and even humour.”
