Hello Stranger 💋 how the devil are you?
.... I am baking treats for the first time in a loooong time. I am loving pretty much being a full time Mum 🤗 over here in Yorkshire but going to do 3 treat offers between now and Christmas. And I am leaving Chorley. So following a busy few weeks with the kiddiwinks, I have reluctantly decided to leave Chorley in 4 weeks, so me and my kids are closer to my family on the other side of the Pennines.

I absolutely love Chorley and this is a reluctant move but most of you are aware of how hard I have worked with the kids/ business/ employment so I am going to see how we get on with a slight change in location.

Hello 👋 so I am tiptoeing back in to say I am opening my order book 🙂 , for now, up until the end of July and will see how it goes.

I feel more than a little silly and fickle but, as fab as the structure of a full time job was, it was too hard holding down a full time job and single parenting 2 young kids when they both had so many appointments and time off sick back in January especially.

So my lovelies - we go again! - I refuse to give in. There is a way for a single mum to raise 2 young kids, setting an example of a work ethic and having some ambition... But it's hard. So having thought about it. I am opening my order book up until the 31st of July for now. I hope that sounds reasonable.

In that time, I will see how I manage things, having had a period of calm and structure upon which to build.

I am considering leaving Chorley in the next few years, in order to have my family and a better support network around me back in Yorkshire, but for now, that is just a thought, and the timescale and decision is still being pondered in my brain.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you think I can help you celebrate and share moments by baking for you again, it would be an honour and I have missed my customers 😍🤗

I hope you are well and looking forward to Christmas.
With algorithms etc, I don't know how many will receive these massages, I have been away for so long.

But I have a few updates.
1: Crowdfunder
There are some people that never replied to emails over the Summer & Autumn plus a few other snags, so if you never received your crowdfunder items, please EMAIL [email protected] and I will sort.

2: Christmas Brownies/Blondies:
I will do a selection of Christmas Brownie and Blondie flavours that can be collected or delivered the week before Christmas. I will do another post later today with flavours and details but if you have a favourite brownie flavour that you have missed from One Sweet Day over the last 6(ish) months then I can do batch bakes so you can freeze some slices (or fill your face with them 😜)

3: What's happening with me:
I have had so many messages or bumped into people wondering what I am up to. Well, I got a full time job over the Summer working at Inspire Youth Zone - it is an amazing place and I love everything that happens there. I work as the Corporate and Community Fundraiser - so working with businesses that donate monthly to help the charity to run. The Youth workers are phenomenal and I could have only dreamed of having somewhere like when I was a child/ teenager, that had a music studio/ climbing wall/ art room/ sportshall/ underground football pitch / kitchen etc - that I could visit 3 times+ a week for just 50p per session, the whole place blows my mind.
Getting used to full time hours and school run/pickup every day has been a challenge, but my kids have had me regularly at weekends for the first times in their lives and as a family - it is great.

Hope you're enjoying your summer?

Mine has been hectic, I moved the last things out of the stall last Sunday (see picture of bakery trolley leaving in my car 😁 and filled my tiny house with the stuff (attached is a shameful picture of my living room last Sunday - it is vastly improved now). The sun has finally shone so finished building my shed 💪 to make space in my house, oh, and I had my first interview yesterday 🤞🤞

Kids here aswell of course 😬😬🤗 so just super busy - how I like it x

THE CROWDFUNDER
The kids are going to my parents this weekend and their Dad's next week so I will be working hard at the Crowdfunder from now until the end of September.

Summer social: if you have not received your refund then I most likely haven't received your bank details - I sent emails to everyone but it may have gone in your junk.

Pledges, Cakes & Brownies
So next week Runshaw College is kindly letting me use their big ovens and space to really break the back of the workload so most of the brownie orders and I think cupcake orders will get done.

Some people have very very kindly said don't worry about the pledge and wished me luck for the future 😘😘😘 I am still happy to bake your order if you changed your mind, just get in touch.

Right, off to do a little more job searching then will start sending emails over the weekend regarding donations and pledges that didn't specify what you wanted at the time (or you can message me here)

So I served cake for the last day yesterday, kids behaviour was brilliant as always 😍
Today we paddled and fed fish in a brief sunny window of time.

But I am looking forward to a lifetime ahead of fun Saturdays with them, not just fun Sundays 🤗

Thank you for all the support over the years, and to those who discovered me more recently ❤️ I have loved meeting and baking for you all. There are 10 year olds that I have done their Christening and every birthday cake which is so lovely 🤗 (if any of you can send pics of the cakes I have done for you over the years, then I am putting a memory file together for this chapter of my life)

People have asked if sales were bad, and no, not really, but there are so many reasons. When I left the shop last September, my intention was to stop celebration cakes by now. They are stressful if I have had orders for cakes when my kids are poorly, I have to finish someone's birthday cake before I can look after my kids properly - at the fear of a social media slating (it's never happened but you understand my fear), as well the inconsistent nature - 5 cakes one week, 14 another - it's hard to plan a life.

I know I mentioned it lots 🙄, but last year really knocked the wind out of my sails with all the nonsense of my bank closing my business bank account in error. The effort to keep my chin up through 2 months of phone calls/ emails/ inability to stock the stall/ pay my bills and be ok for my kids but was monumental. At the time adrenaline and anxiety fed my energy I even thought maybe I had exaggerated the effects but last week I checked my last quarter sales over the last 4 years (not sure why I hadn't done this earlier);

Sep - Dec 2022 = £5,747 !!!!!! - I am fuming again how much their "system error" cost me (kids Christmas presents/ this year's holidays)

There is so much to self employment, I have loved it, but we need time and stability for a while.

But I'm going to miss seeing so many friendly faces coming to treat themselves.

I have been so busy with first week of school holidays, and excitedly planning for the future by updating the old CV and still making celebration cakes, I have been quiet on here. But tomorrow I will be selling cakes for the last time.

I will be open 10-3 tomorrow. Had lots of lovely hugs and cards already this week (and monetary bribes to keep making birthday cakes, bless you 😂😂).

I have made quite a bit of stock, but not loads for tomorrow as it's the flower show but if you're bobbing down - see you tomorrow.

Plans are in place to get most of the Crowdfunder orders fulfilled mid August but I will deal with all that another time.

I hope everyone is feeling good, if not.... Sending a big sunshine cake filled cuddle 🤗

I haven't been feeling great lately, in fact, since the end of April, it felt like I was crying the whole time - driving the kids to school, tears would just come for no reason - and at other times... I stopped talking to my family (over in Yorkshire, so not answering messages/ phone calls) - I am now, and my brothers have been beyond amazing once I opened up 🤗🤗

Between single parenting, inconsistent earnings - my pride hates to admit it (but that doesn't mean I'm ashamed either) but it's just got too much for one person's shoulders to carry any more, and so I am closing the business after 14 years.

Two main reasons - as everyone tightens the purse strings with this cost of living crisis continues, my take home wage is decreasing month on month - last month I paid myself £800 and that was to support the kids too - I am too bright and too hardworking to take that home at the end of the month 🤷

Secondly, and the biggest reason, my kids. My nine year old son is selective mute and years behind with his learning and I STILL have no diagnosis/ healthcare plan / support with this - Lancashire County Council / CAHMS all keep refusing further support. I have already gone through god knows how many channels, and need to put more energy into this - the way I feel right now - I am ready to get political 💪 - don't be surprised if you see me on the steps of number 10 😂.

Seriously though, I am so so sorry if anyone feels let down. I need a break, but I don't have an employer to give me one, and there is no one at home to give me a few mornings off the school run for a few days and I need to get myself a wage and weekends off to relax... That can't happen yet though, this girl has commitments;
