Skarda Glass
Handmade, Lampwork Glass Beads and jewellery made in the Cotswolds by Julia Thorne. Lampwork is the hand crafting of Glass Beads using coloured glass rods.
It takes practice and patience and an eye for detail, pattern and colour. It is facinating mix of experimentation with artistry.
Early start tomorrow, one of my favourite events, Barnsley Village Festival. The weather looks good, so time to meet lots more lovely people and show them the beauty of glass jewellery.
Barnsley Village Festival 2024 Join us at the Barnsley Village Garden Festival 2024 for a bloomin' good time on May 18th!
Busy making today, much better than being in the shed on a cold damp day. These are a splash of sunshine though!
A few pictures of some recent beads. I'm always interested in your feedback. More detail with each picture.
If anybody would like to understand more about Lampwork and the processes and techniques involved I will be speaking to the Kemble WI on Thursday. 3pm at The Tavern.
All set up at the Great Tythe Barn Tetbury. Possibly the longest table I've ever had.
A chilly walk across the frost to the shed this morning, but worth it 😁, I am very pleased with this one. Spectacular 3D with the murrini floating above the fossil ribs, well worth the slow and careful melt.
This one should be quite different and sounds like lots of fun. Looking forward to Sunday!
I finished this one last night. A lovely pop of fresh colour.
All set up at Alvescot. There are some beautiful things on the other stalls too. Looking forward to meeting lots of new people.
Then there will also be this one! Entirely new to me, so a lovely opportunity to meet new people. A busy week ahead preparing then 😊

Looking for some new Christmas Fairs to attend. If anybody local has any ideas or contacts, please let me know.
It's tomorrow! Last few beads came out of the kiln this morning, so lots of making to do tonight. Come see us (and the stunning gardens). Barnsley Village Festival 2023.
I am very much looking forward to this!! In fact I've spent all day in the shed working on new ideas.
My beads and I will be there ready greet all the visitors with a splash of colour, and I am sure it will be a wonderful day. Always such a lovely atmosphere. Let's hope for good weather again this year 🤞🤞
Just about to start at the Tavern Christmas Market and it's looking great!
Dear helpful friends, I'm busy making for the Christmas Market. Tell me which do you think works best, more beads in the middle or three groups? Can't decide. It's silvered glass and etched lapis 😍
A new outing for my beads! This sounds as though it will be a lovely evening, come join us.

The kiln fairy was kind again last night 😍
One of those magic beads, not at all what I planned to make, but with a little, "I could do that," and "What if I use this?", it has turned out a treasure! And yes it is supposed to have a large bubble in the middle.
Some of the jewellery that sold yesterday. Thank you!
And what a stunning day at Barnsley Festival! Thank-you to anybody who came to see us, we had a great day.
A new simple bracelet style. What do you think? Sterling silver tube beads framing a handmade lampwork bead. It feels very comfortable!
I am really excited to be having a stall at Barnsley Festival on Saturday. It is always such a happy friendly event and the gardens are spectacular!
