We are now closed for Christmas
π
We'd like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and hope you all have a wonderful and relaxed time wherever and however you spend it.
π
Here's to a fantastic 2024. See you on the other side.
Another reupholstered chair, another happy client. Just how we like it π
π
Our client remembered his mother using this lovely chair and wanted to bring it back to it's former glory in her memory. We reupholstered it with traditional materials before covering with a recycled leather and large decorative nails from HEICO
π
We really think the colour leather he chose works beautifully against the frame of the chair.
Sweet little child's Thonet style bentwood chair recaned last week and back to it's home.
Finally getting back to this beauty. He's been neglected over the last couple of months but is now on the bench till he's finished. Loving the colour of the leather against the wood.
β΄οΈ
Delivered this beauty back to our client today who was super happy with how it turned out. We think the fabric she chose suits the chair perfectly and the trim sets it off nicely.
A morning of tuition helped a client to make their own platform cloth π
Bespoke bench seating and reupholstered set of six dining chairs. Part of a recent kitchen diner project for our lovely client π©΅
Always wonderful to have such lovely feedback from an appreciative client.
We need your help by Tuesday 24 October, please read.

There is a potential crisis heading for the second hand furniture industry that will affect not only upholsterers but anyone who sells second hand furniture. New proposed legislation will mean that any post 1950 chair without a fire safety label cannot be bought or sold via antique shops, markets, auction houses or online sites.
π
This will see mid century iconic designs being needlessly incinerated as upholsterers will no longer be able to transform them for you. It will also mean that you as consumers will no longer be able to have your treasured heirlooms reupholstered by us. Looking at our recent and upcoming order book we would loose at least at least a third of our business.
π
The https://www.eco-chair.co.uk/add-your-name site gives full details of what this legislation means and has written an open letter addressing our concerns as an industry. Please consider taking the time to read it and add your name.
These dining chairs are coming on nicely. We're on to slip stitching the backs of the first couple and we'll be finishing them off with some lovely decorative nails around the base.
Looking for more space to work on your next upholstery or craft commission? Come and join us at our studio where we have bench space to hire on a daily or weekly basis. More information on our website.
After a few weeks break due to holidays and client priorities these dining chairs are back on the bench. Once done they'll be joining yesterday's kitchen seating in our client's new kitchen/dining room areas.
Our client wanted some bespoke seating in her new kitchen. Her carpenter built this curved seating into the end of her new kitchen island. After much maths we provided new cushion pads and covers. Our client opted for sumptuous Alpha velvet in Lagoon for the seat cushion and the pretty Arcadia Torosay in Dusk for the back, both
If you're looking for a place to run a craft workshop or group get in touch. Our studio down by the Clevedon seafront is available most weekends.
On the bench this week are some cushions for a bespoke kitchen seating area. Our client has chosen two fabrics, a velvet for the seat and a beautiful printed linen mix for the backs.
π
It took a little while to get the pads right for the back due to the curve but now we are onto sewing all the covers.
Our client wanted a refresh on the cushions for her Ercol chairs. The pads were good so we made new covers using Hartland weave in Harlequin with Omega velvet in battleship for the piping. We also identified that the Pirelli webbing was perishing so re-webbed the frames as well.
π
Good as new the cushions are now looking fabulous back on the frames.

This gorgeous pair of Arts & Crafts style chairs went back to their owners last week. They came to us well used and needing some attention.
π
On one chair we stripped the seat right back to the frame, resprung and built it back up, on the other we stripped back and rebuilt the inside back. We then covered both chairs in this beautiful Alpha velvet from
π
The chairs are on their way to London to our clients new home where they'll be able to enjoy them for many years to come.
It's all about the sewing for the next couple of weeks, so we've now got a second machine at the studio. And with us both having had holiday breaks last week we're all raring to go.

πSewing piping this morning for a bench seat cushion. Pretty Linwood Omega velvet π
The seats on this pair of cane chairs were tired and saggy, so we stripped them out, re-caned and then coloured them to fit in with the back panels.
π
Worked on for a client of we understand that they are delighted with their new seats.
Flashback to these beautiful dining chairs that we did for
Buying pre-loved and then having it reupholstered is a great way to create something totally bespoke. Older furniture is often much better made than newer and once reupholstered will last much longer, and saving pieces from landfill is always a win.
π
If you've spotted a pre-loved piece that you are keen to buy get in touch and see how we can help transform it into something you will love for years to come.
Having rebuilt the padding on these dining chairs we were onto top fabric today. Lots of cutting of the panels and then we were onto the first inside backs. It's so nice to see them start to come together.
Book onto our September weekend workshop and enjoy two days of hands on upholstery. Bring a project and we will help you transform it into something beautiful. Check website for details, how to book and further dates.
Always lovely to get such appreciative feedback from a client π₯°
We spent a couple of hours this morning re-webbing these two Ercol chairs.
βοΈ
Our client initially asked us to make new cushion covers however when we looked at the chairs it was clear that the webbing was perishing. Now that we've replaced it with new webbing the chairs will last much longer once the new cushions are ready.
