John RB has masterminded a shorter stem and flatter sheer for the donated ferry Juno, allowing her to work under the swing bridge in the centre of the city without stopping traffic.
This beauty has come into Rolts Boatyard for Ned to work on now that Kalgoorlie is finished. She’s a Severn boat, still used for hire further up the Estuary.
Lands End storm this New Years Eve. 🌊
🌊
We launched Kalgoorlie this week after a full restoration, new cabin and refit at Rolts Boatyard. She was originally built in the 50s by John Bushnell Boatbuilders, and will now be a holiday boat on the Sharpness and Gloucester ship canal.
We’re moored a few metres away from this ship like beauty right now.
Stormy isn’t it?! The original Hello Sailor sent me a message that I really didn’t want to get today!
It’s not the most exciting Instagram picture is it? It’s a message from my boat, a 110 year old Polperro Gaffer. Sensor 1 is a float switch above the bilge pump, and the fact that it had been triggered meant that the pump wasn’t keeping up with the amount of water coming into the boat.
You can see that I reset the Hello Sailor, but the float switch was still up, and the bilge pump was still running. So that’s a worry. At least it also showed that the voltage had gone back to 13.7 volts, so the charger was still working and getting power from the shore.
Of course it’s Christmas, so there’s no one near the boat, but I got to her in an hour. The cockpit was totally full, pushing her stern down, and the water inside was up to the sole boards, with rain water streaming in from the top. The pump was clogged and I had a lovely half an hour under the engine getting it to work again but she came back up again quick enough. She’s sent a few messages tonight telling me that the pump is going off, but each time I reset it I can see that it has turned off again, and most importantly, the float switch above it has stayed dry!
I wonder how many of my customers have had the same scary message during this storm?!
Leason has sunk a few times recently, and she feels beautiful and ghostly inside. We’re having a nice time right now, working through her issues, and getting some power, caulking and wood back in her.
