New 3D Laser Scanner

Late 2019 brought another string to AIM’s bow. LASER SCANNING. This enables us to not only measure parts up to 10m³ to an accuracy of 0.020mm, within minutes rather than the hours or even days on a conventional CMM. But it also enables us to reverse engineer any part, producing a solid model for use to manufacture replacement parts or be used as a template for checking other parts.

Going forward this technology will enable us to check parts in process on any one of our automation systems. Producing a solid model for every component manufactured on that system. This will give us, and importantly, our customers total confidence dimensionally accurate parts are delivered every time with results to back this up.

New CNC Lathe

AIM has added to its CNC turning section with a new machine in 2019. The new addition has a main spindle, sub-spindle and powered tooling, giving the ability to turn and produce milled features from stock bar to the finished item in a single operation.

The system also has bar feed capability increasing efficiency and productivity.

AIM’s Third Automation System - the 1st of its kind in the UK.

In April 2019, AIM took delivery of a 3rd automation system. This system is the first of its kind in the country; a double-decker with 33 pallets feeding a new 5 axis machining centre. This gives us a further system that is able to be run unmanned giving added 24/7 capacity.

With the new system it gives us greater capacity and extremely efficient manufacturing facilities, with excellent repeatability using standardised work holding.

We sponsored a team of our employees in the 2018 Portishead Soapbox Race. They designed and built their soap box racer on the design of an Airbus A320. The guys really entered into the spirit of it on the day, dressed as airline pilots and cabin staff!

Competing against 40 other teams, they came an incredible 7th overall, keeping intact for all 3 runs. A fantastic Performance, especially for a first attempt! Well done guys.
