Some highlights from my second week as your MP.

19/07/2024

I was pleased to ask my first question in the Commons this morning - on the appalling legacies of the pandemic - in response to a statement from Pat McFadden on the first part of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry report published yesterday.

16/07/2024

It was a huge honour to be sworn in as Colchester’s MP today in the House of Commons.

14/07/2024

My first week as your MP has been - and will be - one of the most memorable of my life. Far too much to pack into 30 seconds but here are some highlights. Many thanks again to the many people who’ve been part of this so far.

13/07/2024

Many congrats to Major Udai Gurung and all involved in the brilliant Colchester Carnival today

10/07/2024

I was so pleased to attend a wonderful event this morning to celebrate Colchester’s Compassionate City award. Many congratulations to all those involved, especially St Helena

08/07/2024

Today I resigned from the University of Essex to take up my new position as Colchester’s MP.

I’ve had an incredibly rewarding career at Essex and been privileged to work with wonderful colleagues and students over the years.

I’m so pleased and excited to represent Colchester in Westminster and to be part of a new Labour government.

The elected members of that government are pictured below.

Very proud to start work as your new MP today!

05/07/2024

What a night! Huge thanks to everyone who supported me in this historic election.

04/07/2024

Great response from residents on the doorsteps in the abbey fields area of Shrub End. Such a pleasure to get out and meet as many of you as I can these last few weeks!

You've got less than two hours to vote in this historic election. Don't waste your vote, change only comes if you vote for it!

04/07/2024

Polling day in Greenstead with support from Greenstead Labour and friends. Making my way around our city on this election day! Just 6 hours left until the polls close at 10pm.

Change only comes if you vote for it.

04/07/2024

Polling day campaigning doesn't stop! We're out all day speaking to as many of you as possible. If you haven't voted yet, don't worry, still plenty of time. Polling booths will remain open until 10pm. Find your polling booth here: iwillvote.org.uk

04/07/2024

Election day is finally here! The polls are open across the country, and I've already been out with my kids to vote! Have you voted yet? You've got until 10pm this evening to make your vote count.

03/07/2024

Colchester has given my kids a great start in life. I'm running to be your MP to help give others the same thing.

03/07/2024

Animals need our protection more than ever right now. Labour has a plan to end cruelty and promote animal welfare.

Labour's shadow environment and rural affairs minister Steve Reed joined me in a blustery Colchester recently to talk about what Labour will do for animals if we’re lucky enough to be elected tomorrow.

Tomorrow is polling day, and I’m asking for your support to become Colchester’s next MP.

This election gives us the chance to vote for the change Colchester and the country so desperately needs, but that only happens if you vote!

The polls are open from 7am and close at 10pm. You must remember your photo ID and any remaining postal votes can be submitted at your polling booth.

Vote for change. Vote for Colchester. Vote Labour.

Colchester’s potholes are hazardous and cause damage to vehicles that’s costly to repair. I’ve heard a LOT about them from residents across the city over the last few months.

Labour has a plan to get up to one million more potholes fixed each year. It’s about time!

Let me know below which ones should be top of the list in Colchester…

I was really pleased to host Darren Jones MP of the Shadow Treasury team to Colchester recently. We had very positive discussions with local businesses, employers and investors - all of whom are as keen as I am to see Colchester thrive.

01/07/2024

Huge thanks to Colchester Labour - West Branch and all for a great campaign session this evening in New Town

It’s been a pleasure to take part in Colchester hustings events over the past few days hosted by the Mercury Theatre, local headteachers (NAHT), Colchester Sixth Form College, the University of Essex and local faith groups. Many thanks to all those who attended and posed questions.

Out and about in the St. John's area of Colchester. Lots of people looking for a change!

Many thanks to 16 Air Assault Brigade and Colchester Garrison Show for another fantastic free family event today. Good to hear about plans for a new statue on Abbey Field to honour Colchester’s airborne troops.

29/06/2024

Great to see Rev Matty Simpkins looking so well and the St Leonard’s Church fete in full swing.

Age Well East do fantastic work in Colchester and beyond. A pleasure to visit them today.

28/06/2024

A real pleasure to be joined by Sadiq Khan in Colchester yesterday. After 14 years of this government, we’re ready for change. With less than a week left until polling day on 4 July, Sadiq says it best: vote for change.

27/06/2024

Met Lauren, a recently trained midwife living here in Colchester, whilst out canvassing the other day. Was a great opportunity to hear her story and compare it to that of my mother, who trained to be a midwife back in the 50s.

The NHS has had enough of this terrible government. Only Labour has the solutions to fix it. If you, like Lauren and I, care deeply about the state of our NHS, vote for change on July 4th.

Good conversations in Castle ward this morning. One week to go…

26/06/2024

Good to visit Citizens Advice Colchester this morning to learn more about their vital work supporting local people in very difficult circumstances and to talk about what they’re looking for in their next MP.
