What is an allergy and how does it differ from an intolerance?

An allergy is not the same as a less serious food intolerance, which is difficulty digesting certain foods and having an unpleasant physical reaction to them.

Allergic reactions usually happen immediately or within 2 hours, whereas with an intolerance the reaction can happen up to 72 hours after.

45% of the population suffer from food intolerance.

If you have an allergy to something, this is usually lifelong. Whereas with an intolerance, symptom's settle with avoidance of the trigger.

Allergic symptom's include breathing difficulties, itching, facial swelling, anaphylaxis and increased heart rate.

Intolerance symptom's include bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, arthritis, migraines and skin conditions such as psoriasis.

At your appointment we will discuss your symptons and decide which test will best suit you. Sometimes we suggest both.

Both tests require a finger prick blood test which can be done in clinic or the comfort of your own home. Results will be available within 7 days and include a full report.

1. Blood pressure test

2. Cholesterol test
