Cold Weather Alert Level 3

The Met Office’s Cold Weather Alert covering the West Midlands and Warwickshire has been upgraded to a Level 3 alert, to cover between Monday 16 January to Friday 20 January. Very cold nights are expected with widespread overnight frost. Daytime temperatures will struggle to rise above low single figures.

Please be vigilant of these conditions, especially if travelling. Ice can be extremely dangerous and difficult to see. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable people and disrupt the delivery of services.

Act On Energy

With energy prices set to rise again in October, now is the time to start thinking about your energy use over the next few months.

For many people, the huge increase in energy bills is already making life incredibly tough. Estimates suggest that a typical bill could be more than £3200 a year and the New Year could see another hike.

But there is help at hand.

Act On Energy – an energy advice charity with more than 20 years’ experience – are helping people across Warwickshire plan to keep warm and well this winter.
Act on Energy can offer expert advice on:

• Energy efficiency tips to reduce your bills
• Grants and funding for energy efficiency measures
• Grants for replacement heating systems
• Help with fuel bills and energy debt
• Billing issues with your supplier
• The advice is free – simply call on 0800 988 2881 or check out the website: https://actonenergy.org.uk/

Some funding schemes require certain criteria to be met – but others don’t, so it’s well worth giving them a call now to see how they can help you. Don’t leave it until the after the summer and the autumn price rises to seek help.

Take a look at some quick tips that you can do around the home to help save energy here: https://www.covwarkpt.nhs.uk/our-news/get-energy-smart-this-summer-to-save-money-2762

Thank you to all of the residents that attended our first meeting in the DALES. We launched our street champions project and the residents decided that their first priority is to clear out the entries, remove fly tipping and reduce the rat infestation.

We now have a street champions whatsapp for the residents of the Dales and this will be used to co-ordinate resources.

If you live in the Dales please join us help improve your roads and area. You can either message me or contact Dan Sabin (who live in Glaisdale Avenue).

Over 6 million people across the UK are carers, many are unpaid who support family and friends with an illness or disability. Some help elderly neighbours with tasks that they can no longer do.

Unpaid carers 'don't like a fuss' and 'just get on with it' but it's important that they take out time for themselves to recover and pursue their own interests.

If you are a carer, you are entitled to a carers assessment free of charge and it will help you identify any help that YOU need from support with mental health, caring and financial costs.

I am immensely grateful to the family, friends and residents who have supported me through my campaign.

I was selected a few days before Christmas to stand as your Labour Candidate and in the past five months I have learnt a huge amount.

During that time, we have had thousands of conversations with residents across Holbrooks about issues in their neighbourhoods and the things that they would like to see change.

Thank you to all of the people that have taken the time out to speak to me, whether online via social media and email, or in person at one of my street surgeries.

Nothing has changed for me and I will remain active in our community despite not having been elected to be a Councillor. During this campaign people made clear to me that they want to see an active and visible Labour Party in Holbrooks all year round. I will continue to help deliver this in any way that I can.

I’m excited about 2 new projects which I will be launching in the next few weeks.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Stephen Gray on being elected to serve as Councillor for Holbrooks and for becoming Coventry’s first Green Councillor. This is a significant achievement, and I wish Stephen well in his role and hope to see him fulfil the pledges he made to people during the campaign.
