The New Year often brings new things and while that’s exciting, it also sometimes means saying goodbye. For Maghaberry Pharmacy this is such a tough farewell.

Kate McClelland opened her pharmacy in March 1993, she was drawn to the close-knit community and over the years Kate enjoyed watching the village continue to thrive as it has grown.

Under her instruction the pharmacy won many awards including: ‘Innovation in Technology’ (twice), ‘Technician of the Year’ and the prestigious Pharmacy of the Year award. She herself won awards for her ‘Outstanding Commitment to Pharmacy’

Beyond the professional milestones were many memories shared together as a team. We abseiled down a building and zip-wired across the Lagan, walked, cycled, wore purple, held tea parties, sent a pharmacist to Africa and even did a parachute jump. The village supported us in all of these events, helping to raise well over £10,000. Thank you for your support!

While the fundraising and awards are testament to the team, the bigger prize was hidden within the day-to-day running of the pharmacy. Kate was always at her happiest with her customers, helping them through whatever season of life they were in.

Kate McClelland, a wonderful colleague, boss and friend to us all. We wish you nothing but joy and fun in this next chapter.

A word on what’s next for the pharmacy from the woman of the moment: The strong Maghaberry Pharmacy team will continue to thrive and provide the community with excellent care. So as I step into retirement I carry with me the Maghaberry Village, you have been an integral part of my life and I will treasure my memories of you all forever.
