Hug a Memory

A returning customer asked for a Memory Bear to be made in memory of her Grandad. The gift was for her son with a special request of making a hat and a smaller tog bag from items he used frequently. I think he looks pretty smart!

A soft Memory Bear made from a sentimental dressing gown and slippers, which belonged to a special mother-in-law. She use to sign all her cards with ‘God Bless’, so this was added to a red heart.
I used the slipper fronts for the bears ears and paw pads.

Memory Quilt measuring 100cm/120cm was made from sentimental newborn onesies.

This is a great way to up-cycle precious clothing into a quilt that can be seen and used everyday.

From a hand made suit and initialed tie, I made 5 x 30cm square Memory Cushions.

I used the lining, incorporating the pockets, labels, buttons, and the ribbon found on the inside of the trousers.

The family will be paying their respects next week in memory of their dad.

Today would’ve been my dad’s 77th birthday. We lost him tragically at the young age of 63.

I made this Memory Bear years ago out of his military uniform, from when he served in the South African army in the late 1960’s.
•
He loved the outdoors and we use to call him Beachdad as my sister and I spent many fun weekends away with him, during our childhood.

I also got to waltz with him at my Debutantes Ball when I was 18 in my final year at school.

Made a Memory Tie after a request from a customer. It was made from a plaid, much loved jacket.

I needed to use the back of the jacket, as a tie is cut on the bias, so needed the largest section. I used the ‘wrong’ side as it had more colour and less snags after years of use.

He will be wearing it when he pays his last respects ❤️

I was asked to make a Memory Bear, but to still keep the feel and flow of a sentimental chiffon blouse, which belonged to a clients mom.

We discussed options and we agreed that having a bear wear a smaller version of the blouse would be best.

There was a Disney nighty, so I paired it with other fabrics that were Disney themed, with a contrasting blue. I repositioned the Disney ribbon found on the nighty to make a Memory Bear for her grand daughter.

Woodland pj’s were paired with similar colours and contrasting pattern to make a Memory Cushion for her daughter.

As a Birth & Postnatal Doula, and Hypnobirthing Instructor, I support families with Antenatal education, along with informing them about their birth choices and birth rights.

I attend home and hospital births supporting both the birth person and their partner through labour.

I provide support after birth with breastfeeding/bottle feeding and work alongside mom, building her confidence with caring for her new born. Allowing her to bond, rest and heal while all the background household things are looked after.
