We recently had the pleasure of visiting Worksop College, situated in the heart of Clumber Park’s stunning 330 acres. Just an hour and a half from London by train, the college boasts exceptional sports facilities, including cricket and astro pitches, tennis courts, a sports hall, and an 18-hole golf course. It's no wonder they've produced talents like England Cricket Captain Joe Root!

Beyond sports, we were impressed by their arts and science facilities, including a 306-seat theatre, a music school, a dedicated art school, and a cutting-edge Design and Technology Hub. The college truly offers a well-rounded education.

Worksop College’s emphasis on wellbeing is evident with their dedicated Mental Health team, a supportive House system, and a comprehensive Wellbeing Centre that ensures students are always supported.

Their co-curricular programme is equally impressive, with activities like Polo, Leiths Cookery School, yoga, and community outreach, ensuring every student can explore their passions and develop new skills.

As Year 13 student David Lorer told us, “For me, as an international student, being part of this community is like having a second family.” Our visit confirmed this: Worksop College is a place where students truly thrive.

Ryde School with Upper Chine, Isle of Wight:
Ryde School offers an inclusive sailing program for all students, from Prep to Sixth Form, in collaboration with top local clubs. With opportunities ranging from dinghy racing to keelboat regattas, including the Cowes series and Lake Garda trips, the program develops resilience and competitive edge across all skill levels.

Windermere School:
At Windermere School, sailing is a blend of training and competition, with students honing their skills on Tera and Feva dinghies. From local races to national and world championships, the program caters to all abilities, supporting both budding sailors and those aiming for GB selection.

Dauntsey's:
Dauntsey’s Sailing Club, with its historic Jolie Brise, invites students to sail one of the world’s most famous tall ships. Whether crossing the Atlantic or participating in Tall Ships Races, the club instils confidence and seamanship, offering unforgettable experiences on the high seas.

Royal Hospital School:
The Royal Hospital School’s Sailing Academy thrives at Alton Water Reservoir, boasting a fleet of over 60 dinghies. From beginner to advanced, students engage in competitive fleet and team racing, achieving notable successes in national and international events, including the Youth Sailing World Championships.

Gordonstoun:
Gordonstoun’s curriculum deeply integrates sailing, with students learning seamanship on the Ocean Spirit of Moray, an 80-foot ketch. Sail training, from local cutters to Arctic voyages, builds resilience and leadership, equipping students with life skills and adventurous experiences.

Oakham School:
Oakham School's athletics program sees over 200 enthusiastic pupils participating, with at least 100 athletes competing weekly against other schools. Known as the powerhouse of athletics in the East Midlands, Oakham has achieved significant success at the English Schools Athletic Association Championships and the Achilles Relays in Oxford. In 2021, Oakham runners won seven medals, five second places, set five new Achilles Records, and ten new School Records, demonstrating their dominance in the sport.

Dollar Academy:
At Dollar Academy, the Athletics Club is open to all boys and girls from the Junior and Senior Schools. The club fosters a supportive environment where younger pupils can emulate senior peers, who in turn provide encouragement and guidance. Training includes sprint clinics, middle-distance running sessions, and team relay practices. Athletes have the chance to compete in inter-school, district, and national events, honing their skills and showcasing their talents.

Sedbergh School offers one of the best environments for running in the country, with quiet country roads and a complete cross-country course featuring a variety of fells. The Running Club caters to all levels, from beginners to elite athletes, with multiple senior and junior teams. Athletics, including track and running, is a popular choice for pupils, providing them with the perfect setting to develop their endurance and speed.

Charterhouse School:
Charterhouse's Fencing Club trains on Thursday afternoons under the guidance of expert coach Mike Johnson. The club boasts a vibrant community with many boys and girls competing for the school and at regional levels. Notably, Year 10 student Charlie recently won gold at the London Region Fencing Championships in May 2024.

Downside School:
Fencing at Downside School is flourishing with the support of two exceptional coaches from Bath Swords, one of the largest fencing clubs outside London. Head Coach Rob Bruniges, a three-time Olympian and former World Junior Foil Champion, leads the program, fostering a growing interest and competitive success in the sport.

Andy Murray may be retiring, but our schools are just getting started with their tennis opportunities!🎾

Haileybury:
Haileybury offers top-class tennis facilities and coaching year-round. With eight outdoor courts, nine on the Astro, and an onsite Legends Tennis Centre with four indoor and four outdoor courts, students have ample opportunity to improve their game. Pupils receive coaching from highly experienced LTA coaches and participate in regular fixtures and tours, including a recent trip to Portugal.

Stonyhurst:
Stonyhurst's Tennis Camps are designed to improve existing skills and introduce new techniques. Directed by former professional tennis player David Shaw and LTA Senior Performance Tennis Coach Liz Thomas, the camps offer high-performance facilities, including a tennis dome and various outdoor courts. The camps cater to boys and girls aged 10-16, focusing on technical, tactical, and physical improvements.

The Leys School, Cambridge:
The Leys provides extensive tennis opportunities, especially in the Summer term. Facilities include three hard courts, twelve Astro courts, and three grass courts, with additional courts at Latham Road fields. Pupils receive coaching from school tennis professional Francesco Robarts and participate in regular fixtures against other schools. The Leys also runs pre-season training camps in Spain and Portugal and competes in the National Schools Championships.

Caterham School
Caterham School's Hockey Academy provides outstanding training for players of all ages within the local community. Led by Peter Friend, an experienced coach with over 17 years in National League play and extensive international experience, the academy offers weekly sessions for both junior and performance levels. The academy's facilities include a full-size astro and indoor options, with additional training provided by coaches from Oxted Hockey Club.

Malvern St James Girls' School
At Malvern St James, sports are cantered around participation, well-being, and excellence. The school provides a comprehensive hockey program supported by expert coaches and personal trainers, offering personalised mentoring, technical training, and strength conditioning. The school's competitive fixture program ensures opportunities for all ability levels, with pupils competing in various leagues and tournaments.

Aldenham School
Aldenham School delivers a well-rounded hockey experience with a focus on both performance and recreational play. The program is guided by England Hockey’s code of ethics, offering a performance pathway that includes teams from 1st XI to U13s for both boys and girls. Notable alumni include Olympic medalist Federico Burdisso and triathlete Flora Duffy. The program supports swimmers aged 8-18 aiming for national and international representation.

Plymouth College:
In partnership with Plymouth Leander, one of the UK's top swimming clubs, Plymouth College offers a world-class swimming program. Swimmers have access to multiple pools, including a 10-lane 50m pool, and benefit from comprehensive support services. Alumni include Olympic and World champions such as Ruta Meilutyte and Ben Proud. The program emphasises academic success alongside athletic excellence.

Whitgift School, South Croydon:
Whitgift's Aquatics program caters to all levels, from beginners to national competitors. The school boasts a 25m, 8-lane pool and offers 14 hours of weekly training. Highlights include holding records in the Bath Cup and Otter Medley, and multiple medals at the World School Swim Championships and ESSA National Championships. The Water Polo team is also highly successful, with numerous regional and national achievements.

Our recent visit to Shebbear College in the beautiful Devon countryside was truly enlightening! Founded in 1841, this thriving day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 4 to 18 offers a nurturing environment where every student can excel.

Shebbear College’s 85-acre campus is not only picturesque, situated near Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks and the fantastic surfing beaches of North Cornwall, but it also provides a unique setting for an enriched educational experience.
