๐ฑ"Something positive for ๐ฑ- This is my no dig, no effort, BIG surprise vegetable patch. Earlier in the year my Husband and I emptied the contents of our home bin onto 'Bean's Patch' (hand built by my wonderful, talented Hubby Mark Johnson ๐ช), with great intentions of sowing some seeds when the weather started to warm up.
Unfortunately, due to our heads being buried in home renovations, studying, working and day to day life, those good intentions fell by the wayside. However, stepped in and got to work on its own ๐ช๐๐ง๐ฑand months later this is the result:
๐ฑ Multiple varieties of tomatoes
๐ฑ Melons
Clearly these were the strongest seeds in our homemade compost! We now cannot wait to enjoy these home grown, surprise garden delights once ripened ๐
With all the gloomy and somewhat disheartening news surrounding the and I wanted to share something positive about nature thriving, to hopefully show that small changes in how we handle our waste can bring about good things for us and nature! was a new concept for us a couple of years ago, but now having seen the many benefits, for us there is definitely no turning back!"

The temptation may be to head straight to the DIY store and invest in lots of expensive tools and machinery to get the job done. However, what if there was another way? A more environmentally friendly way of accessing what you need, at a cheaper cost and you wouldnโt have to maintain or store something you may only need to use once?โฆ
There is! A number of โborrow shopsโ and โlibraries of thingsโ are popping up across the country and itโs likely one is closer than you think. Here are a few to consider:

Alternatively, why not ask a family member, friend, neighbour or colleague if they have the tool you need and would be happy to lend it to you? Our Director; Luke McAdam borrowed an angle grinder from our Conservation Architect Matt Rayner recently for a garden project he is working on.
Not only does this approach of borrowing save you money, time on maintenance, storage and limits waste, it enables you to lessen your environmental impact by reducing the need for more resources โป๏ธ๐ฑ

University of Exeter
In 12 years time (by 2035) up to 40% of the world's population will be living in seriously water-stressed areas...and yes that includes Europe! โก๏ธhttps://bit.ly/3pHXILY
There is no denying that is our most precious resource and many don't look at it as a limited resource. But it is, and as the world's population, deforestation, urbanisation and manufacturing demand increases it is going to become even more scarce.
It is no longer an issue future generations need to think about, we all need to do something about it NOW.
At hmad architects we are actively considering additional ways in which we can become more sustainable in our usage of not just water, but all resources we use, but also how we can encourage our clients to consider some of the amazing technologies that can help with this, such as; grey water recycling, ground and air source heat pumps, solar panels etc.
Recent and future changes in law will require work to buildings and new build sites to provide evidence on the environmental mitigations being implemented to offset the carbon footprint from projects. Hence, we are taking this opportunity to reassess our practices now and into the future and we would encourage all architectural and construction professionals to consider doing the same. It is in everyone's interests to responsibly protect our environment right now if we want to continue to live comfortably, safely and healthily!
Thanks to Rebecca Clayton & Tom Robins of IQ Glass UK yesterday for our last minute CPD presentation on your travels down to - Really informative session for our team here at hmad architects, we're looking forward to the prospect of working with you on some exciting local projects in the near future.
