Whole School Trip - 12th July 2024
If your child is going on the Year 7 trip to Peak Cavern, they will be departing Lees Brook at 9am and will need to be in school for 8.20am. They will then be departing Peak Cavern at 3.30pm.
If your child is going on the Year 8 trip to Warwick Castle, they will be departing Lees Brook at 8am and will need to be in school for 7.30am. They will then be departing Warwick Castle at 2pm.
If your child is going on the Year 9 trip to Scarborough, they will be departing Lees Brook at 6.20am and will need to be in school for 6am. They will then be departing Scarborough at 3pm.
If your child is going on the Year 10 trip to London, they will be departing Lees Brook at 6am and will need to be in school for 5.40am. They will then be departing London at 2.30pm.
The buses will be leaving at the times stated above, please ensure your child is able to contact you, in case they arrive late and the buses have already departed.
If your child has not got consent or you have requested that they stay in school, they should arrive in uniform, following the usual timings of the school day.
We will send out any updates on travel, should there be any delays.

We were so excited to welcome our new Year 7's into our school last week๐They spent three days experiencing Lees Brook and getting to know their new tutor group, which finished with all students completing a team building challenge day!
We can't wait to see you in September and support your next journey in education ๐
Over the last few weeks, we have welcomed year 5 students from a variety of our partner primaries to have taster sessions in different activities at Lees Brook.

On Monday 1st July, we enjoyed hosting our very first Student Awards Evening ๐ It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate some of the students who best exemplify what the Lees Brook Academy is all about. Students were nominated by members of staff for a multitude of awards representing excellence in many different subjects, as well as awards for Achievement, Community, Kindness, and the Principalโs Award for overall excellence โจ
Last Friday, we had our Year 11 Prom at Pride Park Stadium. Everyone had a great evening, celebrating and dancing the night away ๐บ๐โจ
Congratulations to Kaylah McKenzie and Caitlin Hadfield who have successfully qualified for the 2024 English Schools Track and Field Championships for the 3rd Year, after winning the Derbyshire County Championships for 100 and 200 metres. What an amazing talent! ๐โโ๏ธ๐
It's Rainbow Rewards week!๐
All staff members get 5 tickets to give out to students throughout the week for the focus of the week. The focus for this Rainbow Rewards isโฆ Community.
Take your rainbow ticket to a member of SLT in the dining hall at the end of the day in exchange for a sweet treat!
There will be no breaktime snacks on 08.07.24 but there will be free fruit available, due to the re-scanning of biometric fingerprints.
Last week, year 8 pupils visited Carsington Water and the surrounding area to investigate the impacts of renewable energy projects such as wind turbines ๐โป Pupils were able to get up close and personal with turbines themselves, before assessing the impacts on the local village of Carsington, interviewing the public about the impacts of NIMBYism, and thoughts on expanding the wind farm.
Pupils were a credit to the school - gaining lots of fieldwork experience which will be useful in the careers ๐

We have been rewarding our high attenders and students who have most improved attendance by giving out goody bags and certificates๐ซ See some of our winners so far this week..
Last week, year 5 students from St Werburgh's visited Design and Technology. During the morning students, had a great time making key rings and shortbread! ๐๐ช
One of our year 11 students has come back to show teachers their electric guitar which they made from scratch! ๐ธ
Please remember to head on to Weduc to give consent for your child to go on our whole school trip. Consent needs to be given by Friday 5th July in time for the trip to go out on Friday 12th July!

Last week, 16 year 10 Engineering students visited Alstom, the Derby train manufacturer. During the visit, they had a fantastic tour of the production facilities - starting at the design phase going right through to manufacture and testing. Students were also lucky enough to visit the apprentice training academy, where they learned about quality control and had the chance to complete some practical activities! ๐
Last week, year 10 had a presentation from the police regarding the different careers they have within the force and the pathways that are available in order to gain employment with them ๐
Year 8 had a presentation from Balfour Beatty who described the different jobs available and the pathways available to get a career within their company ๐
Many thanks to the presenters for giving up their time to deliver these presentations!
Last week, we celebrated with those who have 100% attendance this academic year with a delicious hearty breakfast served with a smile by Mrs Watson ๐ Well done to all our pupils who have excellent attendance across the whole Academy.
On Thursday 20th June a group of Year 10 students, who study GCSE Computer Science, visited Barron McCann Limited in Derby as part of linking careers into the curriculum ๐ป๐ฌ
As part of the visit, they had presentations from a variety of employees which informed the students of what jobs are available in the company and the pathways that led to their employment. Thank you to Lucy at Barron McCann for organising this opportunity ๐
Students have been enjoying the sunshine with their new picnic blankets at lunch time. They loved them! ๐
Buddies from year 8 and year 9 have been off timetable this morning to complete a preparation and induction session for the exchange programme with N.50 Middle School in Hefei, China next week.
Pupils have been learning about the history and physical geography of China to help with conversations with buddy students, in order for both schools to make the most of the visit.
We are excited for our visitors to arrive! ๐

Year 9 French students at LBA welcomed year 5 pupils from Park View Primary School on Tuesday to teach some introductory French. Students were taught lots of useful vocabulary, played lots of games and were treated to a traditional French breakfast ๐ฅ Lots of fun was had by all and there are definitely some budding teachers in our Year 9 Cohort! Well done to pupils from Park View who represented their school exceptionally well - we can't wait to see you again. A huge "congratulations" to the year 9 students who were simply the best! โญ
