At ILB Education we believe it’s important to really think about what a problem is really about before rushing in with an answer. Who can spot the problem with this problem, seen online this week?
Well said, Mr P from Mr B. We’re living in an increasingly high tech world, so let’s use the tech we have to benefit our pupils.
What do you think schools will look like in 2050? Has this article got it right?

What could the school of 2050 look like? From learning in the metaverse to streamlining administrative tasks, here’s our vision of education in 2050.
Just to be clear, I won’t be accepting any supply teaching offers to cover striking teachers during the coming dispute. All the teachers I know who are striking are doing it to get a better deal for education.
I remain committed to supporting pupils I am tutoring and their families. My work towards educational excellence continues.
Warning teacher strikes could last until summer - all your questions answered Last-ditch talks with Education Secretary Gillian Keegan failed to break the deadlock on Monday, with union leaders saying the top Tory 'squandered' the chance to call off walkouts by refusing to get serious on pay
Many of you know that Maths is one of my specialist subjects to teach. Nevertheless, this article has surprised me. What do our future artists, musicians and others make of this? Is this taking education in the right direction? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Sunak wants all pupils to study maths to 18 The ambition for pupils in England will feature in the prime minister's first speech of 2023.
Happy Christmas to all our readers.
In a lesson this week, I’ve been helping a Y4 child to understand area. The key to unlocking that for them was to use the palm of their hand to feel how much space there was on the front of a book. They were then easily able to think about and solve practical problems involving things like the amount of carpet needed to cover the floor of a room, or the areas of farmers’ fields. I do love seeing that moment when “the penny drops” and a child gets real understanding of a concept or idea for the first time.
Today I’ve been working with a group of Y4 children on negative numbers. When asked to continue the progression -9, -7, -5, -3, it got them thinking about how the numbers seem to be going down but the step each time is +2. During the lesson, I was reminded about the importance of the language we use to explain and understand mathematics,
The attached “France is bacon” picture is something I’ve shared before, but it makes the point rather well. What phrase or expression did you always misunderstand as a child, that you now realise meant or said something different from what you know now? Sometimes that can happen with the lyrics to a song, too.
School holidays are always a topic of discussion for busy parents, but what do you think about these proposals? Should different academies even be allowed to choose different holiday dates when siblings are at different schools? Was the old county system better or worse? Please leave your thoughts in the comments, below.
Schools plan to change holidays to match Nottinghamshire Some parents are not happy with the proposal
Yes, you do need maths in everyday life. Please get in touch if you need help with that.
Great to see what’s happening at Emmanuel School. 😊
This school has created some controversy with strict new rules. What do you think?

Parents slam school rules to 'always smile' and ask permission to pick up pens Natalie Teece, the newly-appointed headteacher at John Ferneley College in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, has drafted the guidelines pupils will need to follow ahead of the school reopening in September
Education isn't just about ticking boxes. It's about having the right attitudes, too. Our tutoring seeks to encourage those attitudes in a fun learning envioronment.
Making a positive difference in people's lives is a big reason for being a teacher. This video shows how it impacts on teachers, too.
At ILB Education we know the value and importance of education done well.
Communication is so important in any walk of life, as this picture, shared by a friend, illustrates.
I don’t think Valtteri Bottas totally gets how percentages work, in this article. (https://www.express.co.uk/sport/f1-autosport/1539181/Valtteri-Bottas-addresses-playing-second-fiddle-Lewis-Hamilton-Mercedes.) Maybe he should book a few lessons with ILB Education!

Education is important! Clearly, there are concerns about political control and genuine experts being ignored.

I've taken delivery of some flyers that look a bit like this. Please feel free to share this copy with anyone who might be interested in maths or English tutoring for September 2021, onwards. I have a few spaces for junior children (Y3 - Y6) as current Y6s move on to secondary school.
Jen Wyman and her team at Bridge the Gap are leading a webinar entitled, "Anxiety: Explaining to Children" on Wednesday 21st July. This is such an important area for parents and children and I know of Bridge The Gap's expertise in that area. The webinar lasts one hour, from 8pm to 9pm and costs just £5. I have no hesitation in recommending it to any parents or education professionals who may be interested. Here's a sneak peak into my preparations for the brand new website that's going live this summer. This is only a first attempt at one of a series of videos that will show you more about what I'm doing and how I can help you and your child. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about this video as well as ideas for other topics that I could explore. What questions would you like to see answered in video format like this?
It was very pleasing to receive the following in an email this evening, from a satisfied parent, "I would like to commend you for the brilliant support provided to “Pupil” in developing her literacy skills. It certainly has paid off because “Pupil” achieved 45/50 (She achieved the highest score in the class!) in a comprehension assessment that took place this week. Your magical support is having a positive impact on “Pupil”'s learning. Well Done!"
(I've removed the pupil's name and replaced that with the word, "Pupil".) It's great to see the progress that children make, isn't it? A big part of my job satisfaction is seeing children achieve their potential whilst enjoying their work.
