Sculling 1. What is it? Small movement of your hands from side to side, palms open and fingers stretched while kept together. The movement is created by adding a slight turn of you hand. Pushing out your hand is angled one way and pushing in it should be angled the opposite way. (Palms turned pushing towards the direction you want to move away from.) 2. What can you use it for? Stationnary Scull - During a stationnary float on your back, you can do a flat horisontal scull to push youself higher out of the water. Think of water polo players and especially syncho swimmers. Amazing what they can do. Head First Scull - One example is the one I am showing in the video, on your back. This time the palms are vertical, still under the water, wrist bent 90 degrees, finger tips pointing up. Feet First Scull - 1 teach to ways to do this. both on the back again. 1. Arms streched over your head, wrist bent 90 degrees "up" Puhing your forward. 2. Arms along body and hands near hips. Wrist bent 90 degrees "down". this movement becomes more like a sideways "shovel" movement pulling you forward. Nerdy bit of the explanation :) For those interested in vectors, you will see how the diagonal movement will create movement in 2 directions. Protecting yourself should you fall in unexpectedly, fall in, float, relax, tread water, call for help, orientate yourself, swim to safety, or wait for help. All part of a water safety week's exercises 🏊🏼♀️🏊🏼♂️ Permission to post photo given by parent.
Self Rescue is step one - then rescue others. Here is another of my star swimmers participating in my water skills and rescue activities. Videos curtesy of her mum Kelly. 🥰🙏 Thank you Kelly for sending them. Permission to post photo given by parent.
