LIFELONG BENEFITS OF SWIMMING
This decline in swimming lessons is happening despite our research highlighting that many of us find swimming more useful in our adult lives than other subjects like science, computing, and even s*x education.

Furthermore, for parents, it’s clear that swimming is a highly valued skill.

They overwhelmingly ranked swimming (56%) above other life skills like cooking (54%), cleaning (41%), DIY (27%), and even first aid (51%) as the most important for their children. Only budgeting comes out on top as “very important” for children’s future with 64%.

Parents believe that swimming is so important because it’s not only a fun activity to keep their children healthy and active—it’s also a vital life-saving skill. When planning family holidays, especially those involving water activities, knowing their kids can swim gives parents peace of mind.

In fact, one of the biggest worries for parents during the summer holidays is the fear that their child could drown, with 71% of parents admitting to this concern. It beats other potential issues such as allergic reactions, catching an illness, getting sunburn or getting food poisoning.

Today I had 2 great experiences, well more, but 2 stood out more.

1. Ex clients of mine came to the pool with their parents, and made me proud of them. All 4 in the pool swimming, diving and just having a great family day, by the look of it. I hope you enjoyed it as much as it looked, Rebekah, Matthew, Jacob and Sophie. Xx 🩵💙🩵

2. Maria had her last lesson today, and less than a year ago she had a bad case of aqua folic, which has been transformed into her swimming front crawl and breast stroke. Amazing progress and steep learning curve, well done Maria. 💪🫶❤️‍🔥 Thank you for the presents, a home made cake, which I have tested, and it is great 😍😍😍

I am ever so sad to see you all finish. But also very happy that you can swim on your own and feel good and safe about it. # # #

Today was the last day of special activity Scuba diving weeks. All my swimmers had a chance of trying scuba diving, including the parents and pool staff both in EMA and Leicester.

I think and hope it was exciting and enjoyable for all to try.

Certificates issued and lots of air sucked into aspiring scuba diver lungs. 🤿🤿🤿

Making the decision to learn to Swim as an adult and also following up with actually doing it, is a big step.

It can be daunting and you may feel self conscious stepping into the pool thinking everyone is watching you.

If they are watching, they are very likely: impressed, envious that you dare, happy for you, or not really interested. I don't think anyone will have any negative opinions, so DO IT 🔥🏊🏼‍♀️

Next, forget about anyone else and enjoy your decision, the work you put into learning and not least THE RESULT.

If you were not able to learn as a child then:

Congratulations on completing Stage 5 in good style last week 🐬💙🩵💙🏊🏼‍♀️

You all may know by now that my favourite discipline is Butterfly, and Myles has achieved a fantastic relaxed style when he swims exactly this stroke.

Swimming with dolphins does not seem far fetched now. Well done Myles, what a great effort. 😍 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This Sunday morning I was surprised by a question from Luca, my swimmer, about which colour was my favourite.

While his sister finished her lesson, he was busy away from where I could see him, sitting with his mother.

When it was his turn, he proudly presented me with this drawing. 😍

This made my day, and I want to share it with you all, this nice gestures, we experience as a sign of something 💙🩵💙

Thank you Luca, for your nice drawing, I love cars and green, so what's not to love about this. 💚🏎 💚

After this, he had his best lesson ever. 💪
