Many of us place too much value on our follower count, and while it is important, your engagement rate is a more important metric to track.

Why? That’s because your engagement rate is an indication of how well your content is resonating with your audience.

A good engagement rate = good content.

An engagement rate between 1% and 5% means you’re doing a good job 👏🏻

How to hit your next follower MILESTONE

My client has just reached 4k followers on Instagram, which is indeed something to celebrate 🥳

I’ve been working with her on and off for the last 4 years (due to me relocating from South Africa to the UK) but when I started helping her with her social media management, she was on less than 1k followers.

It’s been slow, steady, and consistent growth over the last 4 years but slow and steady wins the race, right? 😉

So how did we do it?

Firstly, we listened to her followers. We posted stories to directly ask them what kind of content they wanted to see from her and planned our strategy according to their answers.

Secondly, we did a lot of brand collaborations with bigger names/influencers in the industry she works within (making sure they were aligned with her target audience), This allowed us to reach a bigger audience in a credible way.

Lastly, we maintained consistency. We don’t post every day and you don’t need to. Always think quality over quantity. We have maintained 3 posts a week every week for her over the years and it’s worked a dream in growing her a loyal community.

I used hashtags with between 5 000 – 500 000 posts attached to them (so her content wasn’t being swallowed by the masses).
Later recommends that 20-30 hashtags is the sweet spot for reach and engagement, so here’s what I came up with:

This a new hashtag strategy we’re trying after realising her Instagram followers weren’t aligned to her target audience (this is just one of the steps we’re taking to overhaul her Instagram strategy).

To know which hashtags are working, it’s going to take some trial and error but that’s what strategy is all about 🙌🏻
