It’s that time of year again!🎃🎃🎃
So after such a wet and awful winter and (mostly) spring, the baby pumpkin plants landed with us ready for planting, then it rained a little more! We have finally managed to get going with them though and had all hands on deck (including the pumpkin rangers and pumpkin pooch Ivy too), and finally got going.
What’s with the plastic I hear you cry…well, it’s not actually plastic, it’s biodegradable corn starch, it helps keep the pumpkins hydrated through condensation and also keeps the weeds down too, then as if by magic it breaks up and rots down over winter before the fun begins again. Yes it turns planting into a two stage process but we think it’s definitely worth the effort.

For anyone who wants to know what happens on a pumpkin farm when we’re not pumpkining… Well, harvest 2023 is in full swing. We’ve started the wheat and today it was time to get on with combining some oats. All going well, everything is just dry enough - too wet and it’s expensive to dry the crop and too dry means it weighs less and we sell by the ton so that’s not great either! Pop to the Pumpkin Trail desk next to the entrance to the pumpkin fields for a trail sheet and to find out more.
