Putting the heart into art with every brush stroke. Creating bespoke wildlife and pet art

My hands have been creative from the age of 3 after growing up in the country with Mum and Granny teaching me various crafts. I did GCSE art and then went on to do an Advanced GNVQ and an HND in multi media textiles, but it wasn't until I was in my twenties that I realised I had a talent for drawing animals. I gave up the day job in 2018 to become a full time artist and not regretted it for a minute.

It's that time of year where no painting gets done on purpose for a little while....
Our youngest's birthday is on Sunday, hubby's birthday is on Tuesday, shifts at the seasonal job the week after and then Christmas.
But I am still willing to answer those can you do queries like the one that led to this gorgeous Queenie worktop saver being made in a reality this week 🤍
My virtual shelves are obviously still open for browsing and I am coming up to half way through my Christmas animal offers. You have until 10.30am today to grab a hare bargain xx

Just when I thought I wouldn't be painting Tristan and Morgan again, the photographer whose photos I have used for reference in the past (with permission) commissioned a bookmark for their owner 🤍

And this was the feedback when it was gifted....

"Oh my goodness, Claire! My bookmark is absoultely stunning! Thank you, so much. Words cannot express how wonderful it is - it took my breath away. Thank you, thank you."
🤍

No matter how many times I paint a rainbow on a memorial star, I always say the rhyme, Richard of York gave battle in vain, in my head whilst putting the colours out on my pallete and then again when I'm painting the rainbow 🌈

This was all the painting I did yesterday, as natural light didn't appear yesterday due to the rain, so I'm hoping it will be better today so I can do my last pet portrait of 2023.

The current Christmas owl offer ends in just under three hours when a new animal will be posted xx

I have been racking my brain all day on what to do since I forgot about my 12 days of Christmas and I think I have come up with an idea........
So if I was to select an animal each day for the next 10 days and reduce a selection of items I have ready to post featuring that said animal for 24 hours.......would anyone be interested? Xx

02/12/2023

Just realised it's the 2nd December and I haven't even thought about doing my 12 days of Christmas this year or taken photos of my suncatchers / tree decorations to get them on my virtual shelves. I make a rubbish saleswoman 🫣 😂

01/12/2023

I thought I had painted my last miniature pet portrait of 2023 yesterday, but I had two enquiries come in within an hour of each other last night 🖤

One I am squeezing in for guaranteed Christmas delivery, whilst the other is thankfully a no rush order 🤍

My miniature pet portrait prices will be increasing on 1st Jan, but slots for 2024 can be booked now if you wish to save some pennies 🖤

30/11/2023

This is me peering down from cloud nine this morning following an amazing message conversation with a customer last night after she received her order 💚

If I could bottle this feeling, I would xx

29/11/2023

It's been a day off today and in typical fashion, the natural daylight was great for painting for a change 🙄
Fingers crossed it will be there again tomorrow when I'm working on another miniature pet portrait 🤞
I will leave you with the beautiful Gwenyfer for now xx

28/11/2023

Thank you for all the love, hugs and messages on my post yesterday regarding Bon. It's times like this that I wish I had a job to go out and do to take my mind off it, but then equally as glad that I work from home and I can take my time to come to terms with it 🤍

I managed to complete one commission yesterday afternoon and have started a miniature portrait commission this morning. I'm going to grab a bite to eat and hopefully get more done this afternoon whilst the light lasts 🤍

27/11/2023

After nearly four weeks away from the easel, I am going to attempt to get working on my last commissions of 2023 today.
I had planned to start them yesterday, but I ended up pottering around doing odd jobs after we lost this cheeky little chap during the night on Saturday. It's hard to paint from your heart when your heart is aching.
Sleep tight Bon 🤍

25/11/2023

Do you think my hubby got me a big enough glass for my southern comfort and coke? 😂

Really felt ready for this tonight after doing three events, in two and a half weeks with only five days at home in between.

Would I do it again......ask me again in 2024 🖤🤍

25/11/2023

It's a work day for me starting with an early morning printing for a customer who requested giraffe coasters 🦒

What does your day have in store for you?
Is it work, rest, or play? Xx

A different table set up for me at Artcore's Winter Wonderland event as there is no parking near, so I could only bring what would fit in a suitcase 💙

Open 4 - 8pm today and 11 - 4 tomorrow 💙

23/11/2023

Prep begun today for my last physical event of 2023 and it's a new one for me.

The last time I attempted to sell my wares in Derby, my fingers got burnt quite badly (as in I lost a lot of money) so I am dipping my toes back in very gently.

If you are local and in town on Friday or Saturday, please pop in to say hello x

22/11/2023

Today, we met up with our youngest and his girlfriend for a walk around Wollaton Hall Park.
It was lovely to see the deer whilst swishing our feet amongst the dried leaves and blowing out the cobwebs 🍂🍁

21/11/2023

Hubby has seen a hedgehog wandering through our garden this evening 🤎

Might have to find a way to put food out (without next doors cat getting it) and see if he returns 🦔

20/11/2023

Thank you to everyone who came and visited my pen during Saturday and Sunday, helping make this year's Crafts in the Pen one of the best for me yet 💙
I had a couple of sales which really stood out for me....on Saturday, it was a lady buying four bookmarks for her family and on Sunday, it was a couple adopting my rhino panel which meant I could donate 10% to a rhino charity. Amazing 💙
After two back to back events, a solid eight hours of sleep last night was certainly welcomed and I will be continuing to recharge my batteries for a couple of days before I prepare to sell my wares at a new local event on Friday / Saturday 💙

18/11/2023

Well that was a very encouraging first day at Crafts In The Pen with bookmarks being the most popular for finding new homes 💜

We are back again tomorrow 10am - 4pm, but this evening I will be found in a local pub having a well deserved drink and discussing tomorrow's sale strategies with Scorch Wood and Ruth Makes Jewellery 💜

16/11/2023

It's been a bit hectic since we got home at lunch time 🤪
Coasters, work top savers, placemats and glass sun catchers have been restocked. New sun catcher display board created / painted and stock reorganised in the car to fit in extra crates ready for departure in approx twelve hours.
Time to chill before bed x

16/11/2023

I'm now about to get up and pack my clothes ready for the drive home and the mad dash of printing, making shelves and reorganising my stock ready for travelling to Crafts In The Pen tomorrow, but wanted to pop on and say thank you.

Thank you to all of the people who supported the pop up shop on social media over the last week. Thank you to the visitors who browsed our wares. Thank you to those who bought items from myself and my brother Scorch Wood. We know times are tough at the moment and each purchase, no matter the value, meant the world to us as small businesses.

Thanks to all of your and our families support, the deposit has been paid for next year and two dates pencilled in for 2025.

See you again, I-Chameleon, 7th - 13th Nov 2024 💙

15/11/2023

Last day at the pop up today 💙

Hopefully whilst I'm here serving customers till 4pm, a delivery of glass hexagons will be arriving at my brother's, ready for me to do a printing session when I get home tomorrow xx

14/11/2023

It's been lovely to hear all the comments from the customers in the pop up over the last week. One today said it was like visiting an art gallery 💙
I'm still hoping an original may find a home before we pack away at 4pm tomorrow.........well a girl can dream, can't she? 😜

13/11/2023

Had a trip out to the local Halesworth post office today with a few items that found new homes over the weekend.

Which reminded me to sort out out my Christmas posting dates. They are set a few days before the recommended dates from Royal Mail as I really would like the peace of mind that items will reach you in plenty of time and not be missing on the special day xx

12/11/2023

Time to rest and reset after a busy week plus keep my fingers crossed that I don't go down with a cough and cold like my hubby xx

11/11/2023

It's certainly been a bit nippy manning the pop up today, but we were determined to keep the door open to encourage people to come in and browse. My constellation stars are a welcoming and warm sight for visitors 🧡

10/11/2023

I took some snap shots of my new suncatchers / tree decorations in between customers yesterday.

They are approx 9cm in length and available to order for £7.50 each or three for £18 plus £2.95 uk p&p. Can be sent worldwide upon request.

If I have the stock left after my pop up and Crafts in the Pen next weekend, they will be posted Monday 20th. If not, they will be posted by Friday 24th xx

Attempted to work out a kingfisher coaster the other day from my River Realm painting. Both designs are a bit tight fitting onto a square.

What do you think?
Two or three birds? 💚

09/11/2023

Morning 💜

08/11/2023

Nearly time to pack the car 💙
About four hours of travelling ahead followed by a crazy couple of hours setting up and then we will be open from 9.30am in the morning xx

07/11/2023

New placemats are now on the horizon after finding a second hand book binding press, that my lovely friends collected for me from Hebden Bridge last month, to help them cool as flat as pancakes 💜

Not sure I could choose a favourite design out of these four. How about you? Xx

06/11/2023

Could be hard making a decision on what designs to stock at this moment in time......

05/11/2023

Sat and worked out my Christmas commission deadline and postal dates whilst the builders were here this week ❄️
Can't believe how quick this year has gone xx

04/11/2023

Bluebell got her own custom made, protective, bubble bag today ready for travelling to the pop up on Wednesday 💙
