Looking to pick a well-proportioned Round Brilliant Cut diamond? Save these tips on diamond anatomy!

- A standard Round Brilliant Cut has 57 or 58 facets.
- 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: This is the largest facet at the top of a diamond. It is the window into the stone, allowing light to shine into the diamond and reflect back out, making the diamond appear brilliant. A large table facet can make a diamond appear larger, but too large of a table facet can impact the facets on the crown, reducing their ability to disperse light. The table size should be 52-62% of a diamond’s girdle diameter.
- 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧: The crown facets at the top of the diamond consist of 8 bezels, 8 stars, and 16 upper halves. They gather and disperse light to create brightness, fire, and a scintillating pattern of light and dark. The crown angle should be between 32 to 36 degrees.
- 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐥𝐞: The girdle is the middle portion of a diamond, a narrow section separating the crown from the pavilion. It should not be too thick, which can hide too much weight, or too thin, in which case the diamond may be vulnerable to chipping.
- 𝐏𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧: The pavilion or bottom facets, consist of 16 lower halves, 8 mains, and an optional culet. They reflect light back through the crown to the viewer’s eye.
- 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐭: The culet is an optional facet at the very bottom of the diamond. Having one can reduce the chance of the bottom tip chipping. But too large of a culet can be distracting as it may appear as a dark region through the table facet.
