Look how cute Diddly is having a cuddle with our student nurse Chloe!😍 He came in to our Chaddesden surgery for a procedure to remove his deciduous canines (baby teeth). Typically a dog loses all of their deciduous teeth naturally by 4-7 months of age, so it was important to remove these as it could have caused dental problems in the future.
STAYING VISABLE🔦🌚
Now that the evenings are getting darker a seasonal tip is to stay visible! Make sure that if you are walking in the evenings, consider high visibility clothing for your dog's such as leads, collars and coats. Keeping to well-lit areas allows you to continue to watch them and monitor their mobility, this is particularly important for toileting areas in the home. These little extras can help make our feel pets more comfortable and provided a greater field of vision, especially for those pets that struggle with their vision.
‼️‼️URGENT
We are currently treating a cat that appears to have been in a road traffic accident at our Chaddesden branch.
Ginger and white entire male, no microchip or collar. He was found on Selkirk Street. If you believe this cat is yours please contact us on 01332 661554 as soon as possible.
This cutie is 3 year old Clover, who recently came in to see us for a lump removal. Clover is now all healed and feeling much better. We love when we have small furries in and we love it even more when they make a great recovery!🤩
‼️We have had an entire male rabbit bought in to us today at our Chaddesden surgery. Unfortunately, he wasn’t chipped so we’re hoping we can reunite this cutie with his owner. He was found in a back garden on Springfield Road in Chaddesden.
📞If you believe this is your rabbit please call us on 01332 661554.
Meet Thumper🐰🤎
Thumper is owned by our deputy head nurse Jelisa. Jelisa noticed Thumper was losing weight and brought him for a check up with vet Tamsin. Tamsin found that Thumper had some sharp overgrown teeth that were likely preventing him from eating properly. After a blood test to check for any other problems, and some pain relief to make him feel better, Thumper underwent a general anaesthetic. He had x-rays and the sharp teeth were rasped smooth. He recovered very well, here he is enjoying his recovery food shortly after surgery! It's really important to minimise stress in our bunny patients and so his two girlfriends accompanied him for his stay in hospital (we think they were grateful for the fuss and treats from the team!).
As a prey species, rabbits will often hide pain. They may continue to eat even when they're very poorly or painful. If you notice any reduction in appetite or weight loss in your rabbit, please contact us for an appointment with one of our vets.
‼️We have sadly had a deceased cat bought into our Chaddesden Surgery by a member of the public. If you think this could be your cat please contact us on 01332 661554.
•Neutered male
•Long haired tabby
•No microchip

☔️🌧️CHANGING WEATHER🌧️☔️
As many of you will have noticed, the weather has taken a change from the previous sunshine. Now that the rain has come and the colder wind blows, it is important to think about how we can help our pets during this time. When animals suffer with osteoarthritis, they can sometimes show marked decline during colder weather, coats that cover the entire back can help keep dogs warm and protect some of their joints if they fit correctly. Wet weather brings the need for towels, it is important to dry them as soon as possible, even if they are travelling in the car after their walk (drying coats can be very useful). Keeping towels in cars and by doors can be a real help. Cats will also benefit from beds kept away from draughts and warm, dry areas to rest outside if they don’t have access indoors.
A perfect example of this is our Physiotherapist Emma-Jayne’s beautiful dog Isla, who is modelling her towel in the back of the car after a wet walk!🌧️
‼️CHELLASTON CLIENTS‼️
Due to the car park at our Chellaston branch having work done to fix some pot holes, there is very limited space for parking. Please allow extra time to find a suitable place to park before your appointment. We apologise for any inconvenience and the car park will be back in use shortly.
🩺POST-OP CHECKS🩺
Meet the beautiful Simba! He recently came into our Chaddesden branch for a toe amputation. At his post op checks our nurses ask how he's recovering from his surgery at home, if he's eating and drinking well, taking his medication and how his toilet habits are. They also check the wound to see how the healing process is going and check for any abnormalities like wound breakdown or signs of infection.
Luckily this lovely boy is recovering really well but it’s important to attend any post-op checks we recommend as every animal heals differently after surgery.
You may not always see our Animal Care Assistant’s, but they are always busy at work behind the scenes. These wonderful ladies work so hard to support our Vets, Nurses and our reception team and we are so lucky to have them! They also play a vital role in looking after your pets when they are in for procedures from taking their temperatures, heart rates and doing pain scores to helping ensure the cleanliness of down the back, along with so much more!
So, a massive THANKYOU to our amazing ACA’s we’d be lost without you!🐾💜
🎆🎇FIREWORK SEASON🎇🎆
Following our post from last week, here are some tips for keeping your pets safe during firework season. The preparation stage is key and if you would like any help or advise on how sound desensitisation works or think your pet my benefit from stress and anxiety medication please give us a call.
🐶🐱ANAL GLANDS🐱🐶
Meet Crookshanks! This lovely lady belongs to one of our nurses, Isobel, who cared for and then adopted her after she came in as a very poorly stray with kittens a year ago. Recently, Isobel noticed Crooks excessively licking her back end and leaking a dark, smelly fluid from her bottom. On examination, Crooks' a**l glands were impacted and sore. We emptied the glands and provided a short course of anti-inflammatories, after which Crooks was feeling much better!
A**l gland problems are common amongst dogs but Crooks likes to highlight that occasionally cats can suffer too! If left, impacted or inflamed a**l glands can become infected and very painful. Some pets simply require regular emptying, but a**l gland issues can be linked with allergies and food sensitivities too. If you notice your pet displaying unusual signs such as scooting, paying more attention to their back end or leaking a smelly (often fishy!) fluid from their bottom, please get in touch and one of our lovely staff can help with advice or appointments if required.
💥🎆NOISE SENSITIVITY/FIREWORKS🎇💥
Some of you may begin hearing fireworks over the coming months, this can be distressing for some pets. These changes in behaviour can be sudden and catch owners off guard, please know that we are here to help. We offer multiple products that can help with this, aiming to relieve stress and keep them calm. We can offer some products over the counter and others are available following a consultation with one of our vets.
It can be common for animals that have begun to experience pain to show heightened sensitivity to noises, if you notice a change in your animal then please give us a call.
Meet Esme!! This beautiful girl came to visit our lovely vet Tamsin for her second vaccinations. She was extremely well behaved in both the waiting room and in the consult room. We can’t wait to see you grow Esme!🤎
