Some of you might know that I visited Las Vegas for an extended study visit with the University of Derby - Arts, superbly organised by colleague Gemma Marmalade. My role/intention was to produce a work that responded, somehow, to the environment of Las Vegas, and the wider area of Nevada, including reference to the ongoing/impending crisis with water access. This is a video of the performance of the work at Dubrek Studios on the 24th April should anyone care to view/listen. If you were one of the select few who attended, many thanks for being there!

Ph word announcement!

This Wednesday 6th we are really lucky to have Antony Hall join us for final Ph Word of the semester.

When: Wednesday @ 2pm

Where: Online (via a FREE Teams live stream, link found on profile page, all welcome!) The in person talk is available for our BA Photography students.

Some info about Antony:

Antony is an artist, educator and researcher working between the fields of science and art. His practice is often collaborative and distributed across many mediums, including workshops, drawing, sculpture, installation, and sound art. Projects often take scientific experiments and concepts as a starting point; these are then re-created and re-invented, outside of their scientific context. This process leads to new lines of enquiry and experiments, which become the basis for new artworks and workshops. The work often incorporates live processes: generative sound, self-contained ecosystems, or illusory perceptions. He is a member of several artist collectives, including, Proximity, para-lab, and Owl Project.

Hidden Histories: The Wingfield Project 🦋

Over the last year, University of Derby Photography students have been repeatedly visiting the Wingfield Station Project in the Amber Valley, Derbyshire, to document its transformation.
Orisunayo Akinniran, Nina Erminio and Carla Collinson have each quietly observed developments at the historic Wingfield Station site, collecting an archive of its evolution now gifted to the project.
Hidden Histories is an exhibition of images and ephemera selected from this archive which integrate into their surroundings rather than demand attention. Each piece is selected to provide a unique visual relationship with its location, remarking upon the intangibility of time, memory, and trace.

Facilitated by Dr. Gemma Marmalade
