Jim Liddiard Wonderfulwood'n'stuff
I am a local woodworker & wood turner creating unique & beautiful pieces and centrepiece furniture.
Hi from England - this was turned from a huge piece of English Yew. It is a gift for the donor of some large yew pieces from a tree that they had to have taken down. I hope he will be as pleased with it as I am!
14.5”x6” (362x152mm)
If you want to see it being created then check out the link below. Best wishes - Jim

Hi folks -this is an end grain platter turned from English Yew. This piece was hard as rock! I had planned to finish this with epoxy resin but when it set it had many ripples. On checking I realised I had used some out of date resin and this may have been the cause. Re-turned and decided to add two copper bands. Finished with Danish Oil and Hampshire Sheen. If you are curious to see it being made then check out the link below.

Hi folks - another planet! Saturn and it’s rings.
Turned from a lovely piece of Horse Chestnut. The rings were bit of a challenge and were built up over several weeks. The resin was coloured with dyes, mica powder and acrylics. The planet sits on a turned Chestnut base and three acrylic rods. Overall 12”X14” (305mmX355mm)
If you are curious to see how it was created, then check out the video on my YouTube channel. Best wishes - Jim
If you are interested in this piece please message me. It will be going into the King’s Centre in Wantage soon.

Hi folks - I recovered this piece of Laburnum from a hedge line. It was rotting and covered in some soil and ivy. What is hidden within pieces like this always fascinates me and I was very pleased to create a platter. I added an aluminium (or Aluminum for you American folks!) band and a cloisonné style centrepiece. This is the ancient art of bending thin strips of metal and filling the voids with enamel. Typically used to decorate metal vases. In my case I used some coloured epoxy putty and some resin coloured with mica powder. Here are a few pictures and a link to the YouTube video if you fancy seeing it being created.

Hi folks - I was having a clear up of my wood pile and came across this piece of Ash covered in fungus. It twice went in the throw out pile and twice I retrieved it! “I wonder if there’s anything interesting in the there?”
We’ll I’m glad I did - it turned out nicely!
Here are a few pictures and if you want to see it being created then here’s a link to the video.

Hi folks- this is a piece of English walnut which I have inlayed with some pewter. It’s a very satisfying process melting down and pouring your own metal. I’ve only used pewter a few times so I’m still finessing the art. I also added some creamy white resin to fill a few of the cracks. Here are a few pictures and if you are curious and want to see it being created here’s a link to the video. This is for sale at The King’s Centre, Wantage, Oxfordshire.
Or message me if you are interested and I can see if it’s still available.
Thanks - Jim

Hi folks - this is a rotten old piece of ash which I turned into a decorative bowl. Very nice grain and I then had my first go at colouring the outside with some alcohol inks into a clear lacquer. Here are a few pics. If you fancy seeing it being made see the video link below.

Hi folks - I found this dragonfly in our house after a trip away a few years ago. I put it to one side and finally got round to making a paperweight. I used a piece of burr Horse Chestnut as the base and cast the dragonfly in resin. I added some white acrylic paint so the lace wings stood out. Here are a few pictures. If you fancy see it being created here’s link to the video.

Hi folks - here is a lovely piece of spalted Beech, which I saved from a skip where a beech hedge was being removed for a new build house. The natural hole makes a perfect window to reveal the beautiful grain and features inside. Here are a few pics. If you fancy seeing it being made here’s the link. Thanks - Jim

Hi Folks - The piece I’ve just finished is called ”The Turtle”
Have a look at the pics below. A fascinating piece of wood a burr or growth of some sort. I don’t know what species either as it was saved from a firewood pile! The features, splits and grain with bark inside are something I’ve not seen before. The wood finished beautifully and I turned a blue resin pedestal which it sits on. Hope you like it - best wishes, Jim

Hi Folks - I’ve recently finished making this globe. It’s been created from turning a piece of Ash into a sphere then carefully carving out the oceans, seas and ice-caps with a handheld router. The piece was then placed into a mould and I used blue coloured resin to fill the oceans and white wood filler for the ice. The whole piece was then re-turned, sanded and highly polished to get the end result. The stand was from some spare Ash and I added a pewter band. The globe is about 6.5” in diameter.
