Pink Alpaca
#trysomethingnew from handmade, hand-dyed luxury textile gifts to our range of workshops to make them yourself. We just love working with textile & colour!
We love everything to do with textiles. You'll see our luxury handmade had dyed scarves, hats, blankets and other items on my website, but we also love seeing other people create their own too. So check out the events section for details of the various classes we run. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, there'll be something to tickle your fancy. Thanks for looking.
Fresh pickings from the garden for a late lunch - some courgettes, herbs, lettuce and eggs to be collected next. 🐓 I’m thinking an omelette with a fresh, herb/floral salad?!😋 xx
It’s Elderflower season and I collected this lovely bowl full of blooms from our garden this morning. Now on to making my second batch of elderflower cordial to keep our pantry well stocked as it’s my favourite summer’s day drink. 🍹😋 Just need some sunshine now to really enjoy it! 😎☀️
A few more pics of the yarn - maybe these images will help me decide what to make with this fabric! 🤔😂
Hand-dyed & handspun art yarn that’s now handwoven and has just come off my floor loom! I’m in love with this one - especially like the pops of vibrant colour and varied textures. 😍 I wove it to make myself a new coat but now I’m not so sure?! Any ideas?🤔
Also enjoyed a fantastic evening of music last night, listening to a full orchestral production of Steve Reich’s pieces at the Bridgewater Hall. 🎼🎸🎶One of the pieces featured a large visual art display on a screen behind the orchestra, displaying lots of colourful lines that merged and changed with the music. 🎨🖌️Truly inspiring music and visuals that has inspired my weaving in the studio today and has led to this project on my loom. 🤗 xx
We enjoyed the Manchester Open Art Exhibition yesterday at HOME in Manchester. 🤗x
Knitting up some of my own hand-dyed yarns. I started knitting this project some time ago and absolutely love these dyed yarn colours together and the textured fabric that it’s creating but… I messed up and dropped a stitch didn’t notice it at the time! 🤦🏽♀️ I’m now frogging back and will restart the whole project. Hopefully it will be worth the time and effort in the end. 🤗
Mmm, I’m loving the colours in this raspberry pavlova and hoping that it tastes as good as it looks! Maybe colours for a dessert inspired hat or scarf?😋😍
I’ve threatened to do this to my son’s car! 😂
"This is my car when I left it at my grandmother's house for a few days." 😁
I hope this inspires and positively influences your year. Love, create, share and be happy! xx 🤗💕
Fresh from the garden today! 🤗 Happy Saturday everyone! 💕
The results of several years of breeding our pet chickens to achieve a mixed colour egg basket! Do you think I’m taking my obsession with colour too far? 😳🐣🐥🐓
I’m enjoying a quiet day spinning and plying yarn today. This fibre was a hand-dyed batt of fine silk, merino and baby alpaca that I made a while ago. I loved the colours but have only just found the perfect yarns to ply the singles with - two cones of natural raw silk and a terracotta slub linen. I thought I’d try alternating both of these yarns along the skein whilst plying on my new E-Spinner. 🤞🏽The finished skein is now wound on to a niddy-noddy and luckily the alternating ply yarns seem to have worked out - Phew! 😅🤗
Introducing - ‘Samba Carnival’ and wishing I was partying in Rio de Janeiro this eve instead of looking out at the snow! 🥳💃
I called this one ‘Princess Waltz’. The colours reminded me of the stunning ball gowns worn in finale of my daughter’s favourite Disney Princess film! 😃👸👑👗.

Forgotten How To Play?
A few years ago I was having one of those ‘feeling a bit down’ moments. You know what it’s like, kids all needing different things at the same time, day job being demanding, husband away, house a mess. Sound familiar? Well I realised that the thing that was getting me down more than any of that, was that I hadn’t actually MADE anything for months. I hadn't tried out a new pattern or technique or fabric. So the first thing I made was a promise to myself that I’d spend more time exploring, creating and experimenting. I had a burst of energy and activity and created lots of scarves, hats and blankets that I’d hand dyed, hand spun, wet felted, arm knitted, crocheted, it didn’t matter what. It was just brilliant spending time making things. And guess what? The kids, the job, my husband and our home all carried on being needy, demanding and messy (although not necessarily in that order!) but I was being creative. I’d forgotten how important that was for me. Yes ME.
The next step was to try and see if I could give other people a little bit of that sanctuary and the fulfilment you get from trying something new and coming away with something physical and beautiful and MADE BY YOU. So as well as looking around at some of my scarves, hats and blankets that hopefully you’ll like, I’d really urge you to have a look at the workshops I’m offering at the moment. A chance to spend time in my gorgeous log cabin studio, choose a playlist, grab a cup of tea and piece of cake, get away for a few hours from the hamster wheel and enjoy making, creating, exploring, learning, laughing, joking, drinking, messing up occasionally, but trying something new.
So whether there are techniques you’ve wanted to learn (if I had a pound for everyone I’ve met who says they wish they could sew or crochet, but are too scared to try) I really would be rich. As it is, I’ll settle for being content, as I try and get just a few of you to come join me in my studio to have fun making things again. Remember the joy on your kids faces when it’s time for messy play? Well that was us once. I like to think my workshops are basically messy play for grown ups.
